Grumpiness was normal for me for the first few times… Bg regulation, hormones and learned “hunger” can do that. Now I only have it when I have a slip up or when I am severely sleep deprived…
And yes, in the very beginning my salt need was huge. But now my body has adjusted pretty well…
Thanks Claudia! How long was your first fast? I’m doing a fat fast I guess. Did you drink salt water? Are there any links or threads with info for first timers? Sorry for all the questions😄 I’m just not sure what to expect

I listened to the first podcast episodes of “fasting talk” with Megan Ramos and Dr. Fung
I think it was about 24h or so. But you really should go with your body. It will tell you and you will learn to interpret the signs.
I sometimes did put salt in water, but only drink small sips in between drinking normal water. be careful, it can flush you out.
Since I really love salt I usually just let one or two little rocks dissolve on my tongue and drink after.
Melissa, I think everyone finds a different way of making sure they get enough salt or electrolytes. You’ve probably seen the links for Brenda’s KetoAde recipe? Some folks love to have that while they fast.
I have a bit of salt now and then when I think of it, but on my last EF, I put some larger salt crystals under my tongue before and after an hour and a half hot yoga class and I felt great. I don’t know if it was from the salt but somehow I suspect it was.
The more you fast, the more you’ll get a sense of what works for you, so please don’t worry about getting it exactly right from the start! Keep the fasting fairly short for now and keep trying different things, and you’ll find your best path.
I’ve been thinking about getting mine repaired because it still gives me a bit of pain sometimes. I think it’s best to get it fixed on a schedule rather than as an emergency. My wife had a femoral hernia one night with no warning signs at all (not even a postcard!). That was a scary, rough 48 hours.
Our “outdoors season” is going to be starting soon, as hurricane season ends. I didn’t want to face the prospect of putting up shutters and doing all that stuff while recovering from surgery.
Me too!! I’m a private duty nurse for an Alzheimer patient and she tries to feed me every 5 minutes🤣 I’m really trying here! Let us know how your doing!
Yes ma’am, seems you just ‘buzz’ right through those projects when it does happen. … Last week while fasting, I cut my grass for 2-3 hours, then grabbed the weed-eater to hit a few spots along the fence before going it the house. - But I ended up going around and trimming the entire fence-line (both sides), the whole front yard, sides, etc. And was actually doing this for over an additional hour!
But I’ve heard other mentions they don’t always get that feeling? I would have to say I get it probably 90/95% of the time? I can only recall once or twice where I don’t remember if I did?
Also good to see some new faces in the fasting thread.
@Monurse Yes, getting in some salt definitely helps. And I am also one of those folks who does Brenda’s Keto-Aide, which can be found in the link below, if you’re interested. I usually do one in the morning and one in the evening while fasting. … I also do one each morning, everyday.
Oh that is hard! I’m at my office and people here know already to not offer me any food.
Good at the moment! The hard part for me is when I get home after work, doing “nothing” makes me eat, so I plan to visit a coffee shop that has game nights to keep me entertained.
Good job! Having my coffee now and just finished my electrolyte drink. I also sucked on salt on the way home. My head was starting to hurt(from fasting or toddlers?) Tonight at 730 will be 24 hours. I was thinking about a cup of broth tonight(heard it helps with sleep) but not sure about that yet
