June 2018 ZornFast

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #1

This month’s group fast.
Thursday June 21 through Sunday June 24.
I started practicing monthly fasts February of 2016. I still gain great benefit.
Zornfasts are normally the third week of each month.
Join if you’d like, we’ll support each other here.
I always do a water fast. (water/ black coffee & tea). The definition of a fast is open to your interpretation and needs. Some will need to do a fat fast. There are benefits to that type of fast as well. I fast to target visceral (organ) fat and to promote autophagy. Fasting also releases HGH for muscle growth. I follow Dr. Jason Fung. Matter of fact, his book "The Obesity Code " is what started my venture into fasting nearly two years ago.
Because of the ketogenic diet I am no longer diabetic. Fasting managed to further improve my health dramatically since I have included it in my health regime. It has increased my insulin sensitivity.

(I want to you remind you guys to please use the blur spoiler if you want to talk about food. This is so the fasters can have a safe place to come and read and get support without having to think about or hear about food.
NEVER post photos of food in this topic or any fasting topic!
Click on the little gear symbol in the text box of your post as you are writing, top right, and a menu pops up. Choose the blur spoiler.)

You may want to include this drink during your fast (or some version of it). I drink 2 bottles a day while fasting.

It is very important that you check with your doctor before consuming Lite Salt, as it contains potassium. Do not over consume Lite Salt! I normally only drink two bottles of KetoAide a day and only add 1/4 teaspoon Lite Salt to each bottle. Do not supplement this with additional teaspoons of Lite Salt! That’s too much potassium! Again check with your physician before consuming Lite Salt. [image] [image] 290 mg sodium 350 mg potassium 75 mg magnesium

When do you start on Thursday, and when do you end on Sunday? I was assuming the “last supper” was Thursday night, and then start eating again Sunday night or Monday morning (72+ hours). What does everyone do?

(Ashley) #3

I’m in, I’m doing a week bacon experiment so I won’t be able to start til the weekend, But count me in!

(TJ Borden) #4

Sooooo ready for this. I tried to do one a couple weeks ago on my own. It’s amazing the difference doing with the group makes.

(Karen) #5

I’m in.
How can it be almost the end of June!?

(Doug) #6

 Ain’t that the truth, Karen.

(I don’t write many checks anymore, but when I do, I want to start the year with “19…”)

(Ellie) #7

I’m up for this as my first fast over 36 hours.
My only concern is that I am doing a ski clinic on Saturday, all day. It is a skills improvement clinic with lots of drills in an indoor ski centre so no altitude issues but it will be my first longer fast and I’m a bit concerned about doing the clinic in the middle as they are usually pretty hard work.
Any tips?

No real rules.Do what works for you. This group isn’t about setting limits/rules, it is about supporting those who are trying to fast, no matter what the length.

Many of us start after dinner on Wed. and fast through to a meal on Sunday. I have found I like starting on Wed. nights, fasting for Thursday thru Friday night, then doing a single refeed meal and starting up after that refeed meal and going as long as I can on Sundays. Works for me. Together I fast @80+ hrs. using this routine. Some start earlier/end earlier due to social commitments etc. Just make it work for you.

Either skip fasting during this time or go ahead and fast just pay close attention to your hydration and electrolytes. If at anytime you don’t feel well break your fast. People exercise and do their usual physical routines all the time while fasting. I lifted weights yesterday 30 hours fasted with no problem.

I eat as late as I choose Wednesday evening and then fast until 4 p.m. Sunday. That’s my usual routine. However, this week I took on an extra home health aide assignment to escort a 90 year old man to his granddaughter’s wedding tonight. I’m not about to fast during this outing. So I’ll be breaking my fast early.

(Kevin M.) #11

I will be starting this also on Thursday!:slightly_smiling_face:

(Bill DeVore) #12

Thanks! I’ll do what works for me, but I find things work best for me if I have a “standard” to follow, something to focus on and aim for. This time will work well for me, since I’ll be returning from a business trip on Wednesday, and will definitely feel like fasting! Thanks again

I’m going to give this my best shot. I really need the support and love giving it too. I have been having a hard time with IF lately. I can easily forego carbs but because of hyperglycemia I really have to do some serious fasting.
We are having family over on Wednesday for granddaughter’s birthday, so Thursday will be a great starting point for me. In the meantime I’ll be psyching myself up to join all of you with my very first Zornfast!

A big welcome to all the newbie fasters and all the returning ones as well.

I am posting a graph of what happened when I started doing Zornfasts last year. This is for May-July. These where my final pounds that were not coming off with keto/IFing. I have been maintaining for over a year now. EX helped me cross the goal line so to speak. My original goal was to hit 141.

Ok. I stop eating
-absolutely STOP-
by midnight at the latest on Wednesday. That is my cut off.
I do not break my fast until 4 pm Sunday.
It is my standard routine.

(Dan VanDeRiet) #16

Agree with Brenda. Give it a whirl and see what happens. I can’t say that I’ve done a lot of fasting, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well excersizing went when I’ve done it—including towards the end of a week-long fast. Maybe take a 1/4 - 1/2 tsp of salt before you start the exercise session.

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #17

Hydrate hydrate hydrate
1.5 teaspoons for the day, taken in very small amounts. 1/2 teaspoon at once could make you puke.
Upchuck.
Spew.
Toss your cookies.
Blow chunks.
Vomit.

…lol

(Ron) #18

I’ll be starting a little early, Tues. after dinner and will quit Sat. morning as I have a barbecue weekend scheduled with guests. Don’t want to be rude  and am so looking forward to this! :joy::joy::joy::joy:

Frat style challenge accepted

(Dan VanDeRiet) #20

Conceded. 1/2 tsp might be on the aggressive side (although I’m pretty sure that I’ve done it w/o any of the listed side effects.)
