Good morning everyone,
This is my very first fast and I am doing it for 3 reasons:
- For increased and better health
- For improved spirituality especially during Easter Holy Week
- And most importantly to improve my mental health and cognition which has been lacking.
Two years ago I began the Keto Diet with the help of a dietician. When I first began this diet I noticed a subtle transition fairly quickly in the brain. It was hardly noticeable but it was definitely there. My recall improved and I could sleep 4 or less hours and still have enough energy to go to work, come back and still go to the gym after that. No sweat and no problems. After that my dietician suggested OMAD in order to improve my health and take things to the next level. Because I had already been fat adapted for 2 years OMAD was fairly easy. I had a 2000 + meal a day combined with Keto. So I remained fat adapted. Recently I decided to do an extended 7 day fast. It has been challenging at times but no where near as hard as I thought it would be.
I started the fast on Monday and currently am on day 5 of the Water fast and salt and surprisingly I haven’t experienced severe side effects such as those seen on the internet. I am however very tired and I am a bit low energy. This morning I felt slightly nauseous but it passed after a few hours. I have had many naps during the day. I have checked my ketones and yesterday I was at 5.1 and my blood was 84. So I think I am doing ok. One thing I am concerned about is that I have not pooped since I began. But I figured this could be because I have been on OMAD and the bowel movements would be less. However my very last meal has not come out yet. I figured the body will sort it self out.
However I have not felt any euphoric or high energy feeling since I began. In fact I feel really normal. At what point are you supposed to feel this or is this just hype and exaggeration?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
