Oh the extra skin! Yes! Hi All, this is the nicest group. I love reading everyone’s successes. I’m 58 and 5’ 1”, Post meno. I lost my first 15 lbs quickly but the last 5 have stayed illusive. (I could have put on some as visiting my son in London this past 2 weeks.) Been doing this since March 1st… love this woe, generally.
But extra skin?!? I’m interested in the eating extra fat theory. Do you have any more info?
I’m returning home tomorrow to an egg fast to kick start lowering BG levels & raising ketones. Easy way for me to do it.
So HNY everyone.

I haven’t yet, but I expect that I will… from what I have read you need to look into autophagy and fasting. I would inquire with the fasting folks.
I’m still just doing intermittent fasting, longer (extended) fasts help with lose skin.

Hey Joan. There certainly is hope, and more! If you aren’t losing by the scale check measurements and throw the scale away. Journal how you are feeling, energy, aches and pains etc. Find a positive reason to keep going. What needs a tweak in your eating and /or fasting yo make it work better for you…everyones program needs to fit them. Do you have hidden carbs, eating too much protein, sweeteners not work for you, dairy okay or not, coffee? So many variables that can affect you. Good luck finding what will work for you, but there are so many people here willing yo help!

I have a big floppy “apron”… I tuck the whole thing into my pants before I zip up and if I didn’t have it, my slacks would certainly be a whole size smaller. It gets itchy under there at times too so I have to rub athletes foot creme on it occasionally to stop any rash from developing. When I go out in a dress I have started wearing a girdle just to keep it in check.

I also have loose skin hanging under my ass cheeks. I always had a good butt even when I was fat, but now it’s not a nice peach shape anymore. I still fill my pants nicely and look good from the back, but nakey is not so attractive. No man wants to touch that! Yuck!

My biggest floppy part is my bat wings. My entire arm has hanging skin, even below my elbow. It makes it hard to buy nice clothes because the sleeves are too tight in my current size or the skin hangs out in an ugly way. I do realize that my skin may catch up at some point, but I’m seriously considering a tummy tuck, arm tuck and a boob lift after I’ve been at goal weight for about a year. I estimate my loose skin to be at least 15# of my gross weight.

I’m happy to have found this little corner of the forum. I really haven’t told many people that I’m doing Keto and IF simply because people aren’t too awfully nice about it.

People sure think they know what’s best for you. Lol

Welcome sleepless!!!

(Karen) #93

Not sure but Brenda does a fast once a month, and I hear it can really help with excess skin. Brenda, is that true??

K

I have lost a lot of weight and inches and really do not have as much loose skin as I would expect considering. I do credit that to my fasting since I have not done much exercise except for walking. I do IF daily of 16/8, 18/6 and usually 20/ 4 as well as frequent OMAD. Then I often do extended fasts of 32 to 72 hrs - about 2 or 3 times a month.

For some people that can be, yes. Autophagy can help and that is gained through fasting.
Search this forum for the monthly Zorn fast held the third week of each month

Thanks Heather, it’s the protein. Too much protein and cheese. I need to get off the cheese. That and i know my body just has a lot of healing. I’ll keep working at it. But thank you, I was just thinking this morning i should start journaling!

(Karen) #97

Enjoy fattier cheese, such as brie, if you love cheese

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::yum:

Today was going to be a fast day, but turned into a late start keto day.

Eggs, bacon, greens, slice cheese. :bacon:

Hi Karen - Thanks for the invite !

I’ll be thrilled to chat regularly with you all.

Ha ha I should have added my little missive from yesterday to this group - let me just do that now.

Glad to get to know you. Im 64 and don’t quite know it yet by some folks’ standards. I personally feel like the 60s is a whole lot like the 20s were, anyone relate to that ? Ha ha maybe just our generation …

Let me go just copy paste what I entered yesterday.

Talk soon !

Here ya go! Happy New Year to you all !

I feel like I’m starting anew again - don’t we just love New Year’s - I do !

Finally at the point where I can start this up again after a couple weeks work ( yah I’m partially retired but still work as a locums doc part time ) … plus 2+++ months of wonder - friends and family and travel and all these lovely holiday distractions !

I’m mid-normal weight (BMI 22-23) with aim to drop to BMI 20 just because that feels so great to me - physically, mentally and energy-wise. And a bit obsessed with making this happen, yah.

We eat real well at baseline (organic whole food vegie-fish/seafood) and daily exercise (swim 20-30min laps and walk 5-7 miles total daily) - Add some IPA to this tho - I now substitute vodka-lime etc but still sip my hubbie’s beer a bit and that’s still just about every night. Plus the occasional dessert-like treat when out.

I found and started this keto thing on September 27th and got about half way to my goal. 137 to 129 and that took about 2 months as I was learning how to do this.

Biggest was - I learned how great Keto feels to me. I pretty much kept net carbs under 16-20 and tried to keep fats and pro up to recommended measures for ketogenic aiming at 1-2 # scale down per week. Tested blood ketones and mostly >1.0 but varied some. Rarely under 0.5 unless a “cheat” occurred.

NOW, after all these past weeks/months travel and family times, it’s time to start this up again. My dad passed on 12/4 at age 91 and after that many wonderful years so add all that before and after, plus his memorial at sea a couple days ago - to 2 months holidays in 3 states, travelled out fm here in OR - and u might get our recent picture (!)

So back to NOW — I’m starting purely ketogenic per what I’ve seen are typical ketogenic recommendations.

Aiming for just 1#/week drop on scale , so …

calories: 1289

nc/pro/fat 5% 30% 65% of 1289 cals

net carbs: 16gms

pro: 96gms

fats: 93gms

I have found it more challenging to get this much pro and fat in per day than keeping net carb count down.

Any ideas welcome !

Challenge is that I don’t eat meat and like to keep all this organic and squeaky clean. Organic dairy’s fine so plenty butter and cream, more than ever before, in fact.

Any other ideas? I’m pretty much taking in about 10-12 of these 16 daily net carbs at dinner w my hubbie and going purely keto through the day. Pretty much either intermittent fast at 16:8 or do the egg diet thing from am onward or whenever hungry . One “real” meal per day is fine with me and I don’t let myself be hungry. Yay Keto !!!

Today, to break this recent easy social feeding time, it’s going to be just a poached egg/curry mayo/sour cream every few hours until dinner, then fish or shrimp plus either salad or stir fry dinner.

I’ll get on scale every morning plus start checking blood ketones every afternoon starting today.

Other ideas ??
Thanks !

And again, happy new year, all !
