Hi and welcome. Dont give up! Look for those non scale victories like more energy, mental clarity, looser pants?
I have lost 28 pounds in 3 months, here is an idea of what I am eating. Eggs, 1/4 cup cheese, 4 slices bacon (this was before I was fat adapted and when I ate breakfast daily, now I intermittently fast) lunch is either 2 oz cheese and lower carb beef jerky or a small spinach salad with low carb dressing and ham, no snacking, steak and steamed veggies drowning in butter for dinner. I use Splenda and MCT oil powder in my coffee in am. Sometimes I will mix 2 tbsp of peanut butter and 1 tbsp coconut oil together and eat it with celery sticks if I need more fat or a snack.
I am working out a few times a week but I was doing that for a year prior to keto and steadily gaining weight, so really am unsure this is helping me lose weight!
This is working for me, but I know the 1st month I lost hardly anything and once I started IF I started dropping some serious pounds and inches.
Good luck, I hope it gets better for you!
Three months in... guess what! No weight loss
First - Dairy is a huge blocker for me. It looks like it makes up almost a 3rd of your diet. I would try replacing all dairy with something else for 2 weeks straight and see how you feel.
Second - You actually don’t have any unprocessed meat in your diet. Sausages and bacon are your only animal protein sources - I would consider replacing those with organic poultry and meat. Sausages and bacon are hugely convenient, but things like ground meat (beef or lamb, or chicken or turkey) are pretty easy to make.
Lastly - I know calories count, but I would first try replacing the types of food you are eating before cutting down on quantity. It is hard and frustrating sometimes when you feel like you are being diligent but there are no results to show for it. Hang in there.
For me, I replaced dairy with mayo for savory creaminess. Get the avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil mayo to avoid the seed oils.
Not really. You are eating mostly dairy, which can lead to two things: 1) too much carbs and fat; and 2) bloating and inflammation.
Go the the butcher counter, pick out some good cuts of beef and pork. Get some grass-fed butter to add a patty on top after you grill to your preferred wellness. A bit of veg here and there wouldn’t hurt either.
Just in case you, or someone else who believes this, come by again. Studies have been made which show that eating breakfast does not make it easier to lose weight. They also found that breakfast makes people gain weight, if they don’t usually eat it. The current updated advice is tobeat brakfast only if you like it and want to. The first meal of the day, whether breakfast or lunch (or dinner), may of course be as big as you like. The important thing is to have all necessary nutrients, and nothing unnecessary.
Also interesting to note: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” was originally an ad slogan made by General Mills to sell Grapenuts.
While many people do find benefit to eating their larger meals early in the day, it is important to know, in my opinion, that the idea of breakfast being important was propaganda by a cereal company.
Actually, if you only eat breakfast then that’s ok too… just don’t eat again that day or at least skip dinner and have a big brunch
That works too. Eggs and steak brunch…
Eat whenever you want, but if you eat many times a day you won’t benefit as much from Keto. Having less meals but bigger meals to satiety is what’s going to work for Keto. The less you eat the less you spike insulin. Don’t under eat but try to feel full less times per day as possible. Sometimes I eat one big meal and done. Sometimes two. But I try to limit it to two. This whole “breakfast is the most important meal” is a load of crap. Three meals a day is also a load of crap. Eat when your hungry, and eat til your full! Simple as that.
I have remained a three meal a day person for the most part. I have played around with skipping breakfast a few times but as I get back into running I tend to get very hungry in the mornings. Breakfast is also one of my favorite meals too. Yes I would surely lose faster with no breakfast but I can still lose while having breakfast. I think this falls under the everybody is different and what works for you is what works for you. That said I don’t see any meal as having any real importance over another and if reducing your feeding window feels right and works that’s good enough for me.
I eat breakfast and dinner because thats when I’m hungry. Its all about listening to your body.
Oh sure I’m not disputing you can’t “lose” but as you stated which is what I said, you could benefit more. Also I’m sure working out, running and things burns more energy thus making you hungrier. But a lot of people in here probably aren’t exercising as much as you! And with the three meals a day I’m just stating that people saying you need to eat three times a day is crap! You don’t need to eat unless your physically hungry.
I suppose. People get their panties in a bunch about real food our ancestors actually ate, yet have no problem sprinkling a white, processed powder in their coffee because it says stevia on the label or it is a “sugar alcohol,” whatever the heck that is.
I’d dare say that if people only ate real food that was in season, most of their metabolic issues would go away.
That’s possibly closer to the truth… although as a non stevia sprinkler I would never advocate eating stuff from a packet.
And for some a bit of veg here and there could be very counterproductive possibly?
Sorry, I don’t buy into the whole ZC/carnivore WOE. I’m pretty sure my ancestors would choose to munch on some blueberries when they were in season. But that isn’t the conversation the OP wanted to have, so I’ll leave it there.
Unless they mistook them for Deadly Nightshade berries… but as you say possible derailing…
There’s already been a lot of mostly thoughtful comments here. What struck me is your lunch looks good but what you call dinner is really dessert. It’s just not really a well formulated Keto diet. It’s more like half well formulated and half sugar replacement. I’d limit that dessert to once a week max. For me, I really need to be careful of sugar substitutes. Aside from the blood glucose response and insulin surge, they just keep my sugar addiction at the forefront of my life. I’d suggest putting some distance between you and sweets. I find the Keto lifestyle much easier and more enjoyable to live when I avoid sugar replacements. Like others have said, try replacing your 2nd meal with some whole non-packaged foods. Nice cuts of meat and if you like a green veggie add that too with plenty of butter. Good luck!
This. My guess is that it isn’t the dairy per se that’s your issue, but the nearly 2,000 calories you’re getting just at dinner every night from the dairy. Combined with what you’re eating for lunch, you may just not be using all that energy.
I agree with the suggestions to replace your food at dinner with some good protein like ribeye steaks, ground beef, chicken thighs or fatty fish like salmon, plus a side of veggies with butter.
I myself do much better in the 1500-1700 cal range. Anything more and I either gain weight or stagnate. I agree with everyone else that your diet is not well balanced which is where your trouble is probably coming from. I know you’re trying the carnivore track, but maybe its just too much at this point. I have had great success with my regimen and this is my usual day (i eat 2 meals and tightened up my feeding window to 4 hours):
Meal #1: BPC, 2 scrambed eggs with 1 oz cheese, 1 oz sausage or bacon, 1 tbsp guac or 1/2 avocado, and if I’m feeling randy I’ll add 1 tbs pico de gallo.
Meal #2: 6-8 oz steak topped with 1 oz cheese and 1 tbsp butter OR 6 oz ground beef patty (80%) stuffed with 1 oz cheese and 0.5 oz bacon, 1 cup broccoli or spaghetti squash with 1 tbsp butter and salt
That usually rounds me off to 1600 cals and doesn’t leave me hungry. You want your body to use your exsisting stores rather than whats in your stomach. You also want to drop the mousse. Having that everyday will just kick you hard in the keto. Save “treats” for once a week or less. If you really need something to tickle your tastebuds, try zsuzshing up your meals with more seasoning and textures. You gotta shake things up a bit because your body is used to what you’ve been doing the last 4 months.
I have been keto for 4 months too and when I hit a wall with my keto this last month. I was also gaining and losing the same 2lbs so I cut cheese and did a 24 hour fast and that broke me through those pesky 2lbs and i’ve been steadily losing again. I hope this helps you a little bit.
