I agree, I don’t eat breakfast. My first meal is at 1 pm.

This is very helpful–thank you! I just started Keto on Monday of this week. On day 4 and I’m thinking I am in keto already. I have done it before and had slow results. This time, I started off by weighing all of my food, watching calories, and keeping close track of macros. I’m hoping for quicker results. It’s good to see how effective intermittent fasting is for folks. I did that yesterday and will again today. I’m feeling extremely warm inside–is this a side affect anyone has noticed?

I think so. I get that feeling every now and then.

Hi @m.Keto.m- I have only been working at Keto for two weeks this is my second round- first round only lasted one month (but I lost 5 lbs- probably all water weight though). I haven’t lost weight or inches this time, therefore, after I received some great advice from my post in a Keto chat group on FB I am going to try dropping artificial sweeteners (I was drinking a Coke Zero in the morning and another at night). I am also going to (sadly) eliminate Peanut Butter.

This morning I switched to Soda Water with a squeeze of lemon (2 grams of carbs for every 1 oz of lemon squeezed juice)- I found it delicious.

I see a ton of great advice in the replies to your post- I would just add that (for me) I’m now trying to find a balance- I hope that is the key to my success and maybe it could be a key for you… I hope you will update us on your progress.

Megan Ramos from Intensive Dietary Management says not to go by the “scale weight”. She went from a size 4 or 5 to a size 0 of the same brand of shorts without ANY weight loss. Your bones may be getting denser (less hollow) and your muscles may be more defined, and everything in your body is changing. Weight on the scale alone, does not tell you the full story. Don’t get discouraged. Also, in my opinion, change things up in your menu once in a while and change your Intermittent Fasting schedule, they say at least once a month. Good luck!

H@Ruina Okay, I am going to weigh in on the importance of breakfast and “The most important meal of the day” slogan. Yes General Mills latched onto a truth, it just didn’t apply to their foods!

First off I do believe there’s some truth and wisdom in this statement, especially for kids who are going to school and growing. Skipping breakfast often involves a sugary snack or something instead of a real breakfast with protein. Children need to eat before school to have energy and mental focus for study. Why not for adults too?

As an adult I find it much more efficient to eat breakfast a little later than I get up. But I never really skip breakfast. My way is to eat about 50-55% of my fats and protein for the day and it gives me a strong start energy wise. Lunch is what I typically skip and opt for early dinner 4:30-5:00pm usually. Dinner is smaller and more vegetables are included. It’s a lighter meal because you don’t need a bunch of energy to wind up the day before sleeping. The earlier you stop eating the better. It’s known that eating late keeps your insulin spiked up for a long time as you sleep. The exact same two meals eaten say at 10am and 4pm as opposed to 1pm and 7pm will have different effects on your metabolism. Consuming your food in the later window will have you going to sleep with more food energy during the more sedentary part of the average persons day. Eating earlier and going longer before sleep without eating will give you better sleep and your insulin levels will be lower during the night. I believe that I read something by Dr. Fung. This was a quick reference I found but what I read before was a more involved explanation. This just acknowledges his opinion on what is optimal. lt follows the natural circadian rhythms.

Yes, I eat later in the day due to family schedules, not for optimal timing of meals. I agree that eating earlier is better, but it doesn’t work for me.

So for me it does work better and I am happy that I fall into the optimal eating pattern. @GregoryCooper I am in agreement with you in essence, but there’s room for flexibility too. I eat more like you. Skipping breakfast does seem to be a pattern many keto people do, or having BPC instead. Like the food pyramid I prefer my schedule “upside down”. :cowboy_hat_face:

Historically most people haven’t eaten breakfast. Those who did were either wealthy or had already worked several hours before breakfast. That said, people do a lot of dumb stuff. But this to me indicates that regardless of when is metabolically optimum, breakfast isn’t the most important meal when it comes to practical scheduling decisions. I love my egg coffee because it is cheap and easy to make in the morning, my most hated time of day.

There may be excellent reasons to make breakfast the culinary center of your day. But I don’t have servants that I can force to wake up early and cook for me, and propaganda isn’t a good enough reason to me. Even if it’s true that it is better to eat breakfast than dinner, which I won’t argue with, I don’t think the difference is big enough to make me cook in the morning. I think societal guilt trips are usually counterproductive.

@Ruina What works for you is great for you. Dr. Fung doesn’t follow the optimal pattern for family social reasons.

I am trying to get my body closer to a natural circadian rhythm. I have dysfunctional sleep issues. Morning is definitely my strongest time of day and most loved! I enjoy the totally rested and fresh feeling and the mental clarity. (And espresso!) I wake up before or at sunrise and I go to bed at 10pm now instead is 2-3am. Sometimes it takes a while for me to sleep. I only sleep 6 hours average. I am trying to be a reformed night owl. I’ve always woken up and got hungry early even if I stayed up half the night. Old musician habits die hard.
