September 2019 - IF/EF Chat Thread (All Welcome)

#241

So we broke our fast yesterday a little bit earlier since my better half was not feeling the best when waking up. Other than trouble shooting salt, water intake, etc we thought it was better to end the fast at lunch rather than dinner time. Total fasting time 74 hours.

Broke the fast with a bowl cauliflower soup with coconut milk and a bit of minced beef. Had roasted whole chicken and quacemole in the evening..

No digestive issues, actually no action at all :face_with_raised_eyebrow:. This morning woke up super (Water) bloated (rings are super tight) and with pain full wrist joint… feel worse after this fast than before? The foods we ate are foods we eat all the time… Well, guess it will get better after a few days?

Way to go.
I hope your inflamation resolves quickly

A Not-an-ADFer club? I think I could succeed at that.

Did my 3 days of a not-only-water fast. I’m okay with this type fasting atm because I’m more than 30 lbs lower than my original goal weight. I’m still waiting for the last of the stomach to disappear. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting…

Thinking to close September out with a 2 dayer Sunday and Monday. Happy fasting everyone!

Congrats MadameChat, well done =).

Last time I checked, my blood sugar was 90/5.0 in the evening, after 5 days of fasting. Today, after fasting for 11.5 days, it was 119 in the morning. No coffee, no nothing today. Yeah, ‘Dawn Phenomenon’ maybe, but dang… Insulin resistance is quite a dragon for me to slay.

Then a doctor’s appointment to check A1C; 5.7. Could be worse but I really want to get that down into the very low 5s. 15 years I’ve been going to this doctor and today was my lightest weight with them - 269 lbs/122 kg. Still a long way to go there, and starting to eat again will throw 6 or 8 lbs back on pretty quick.

Looking forward to eating this evening, and very conscious that patience is a virtue.

(Susan) #246

Fantastic, congrats on doing your 12 day goal, Doug, that is great =).

(Doug) #247

Thank you, Susan. I’m pretty much underwhelmed - it wasn’t that hard and I don’t feel much different. And still looking at a long road… :no_mouth:

(Susan) #248

Aww =(. Well I hope it helped and gave you some benefits =).

51 hours in. Feeling great. Listening to Mischa Maisky playing cello and won some money on Pot Limit Omaha. Days off. Life is good.

please let us know how this goes after such a long fast, I am really curious.

Fung has some good stuff on why the BS goes up during extended fasting. You are releasing stored glucose, so yeah, the number will rise, but you will use that sugar and that is why it gets stored in the first place.

Congrats on a longer fast and lower weight with the dr. visit.

(Susan) #251

Ahhh, the salt and coffee levels are good, headache is gone. Took a magnesium capsule last night. I have no work 'til Tuesday. I would like to go for longer than 72 hours this time.

(Jane) #252

Starting a 72-hr fast today and decided to try starting my fast after lunch rather than after dinner like I usually do.

I guess I’ll end up over in the October fasting thread tomorrow - where did they year go???

(Susan) #253

Finished at 96 hours last night. I was feeling great, had no signs of tummy upset. Then an hour after refeeding another episode of disaster pants. No warning, just a whoosh of mostly water. I wonder if it was from the magnesium citrate I took for a foot cramp just an hour or so before eating. It was a capsule. I don’t remember the milligrams.Last week the 72 hour fast refeeding went well.
Good luck all on Mealless Monday.

(Jane) #254

Wonderful on the 96 hours!

Sorry about the disaster pants episode - it has happened to me also a couple of times and not sure why. I stoped breaking my fast with bacon and eggs but I had it happen another time when I used foods that aren’t supposed to have that effect.

:woman_shrugging:

(Susan) #255

@xsuebeex

Congrats on 96 hours, that is great! I am sorry about your disaster pants issue =(. I hope that you were at home this time?

@Janie

Best wishes on your 72 hour fast you are currently doing =).

(Susan) #256

I was in bed, almost asleep. managed to avoid the bed and carpet, but I had no warning at all. I won’t refeed or take magnesium at work any more. I am only going to fast on my days off from now on.
Thank you for the congrats Susan,

It was a good fast. Ty Janie

Ugh. I caved and had some nuts about an hour ago. First time I’ve started a fast in the middle of the day and I don’t think I’ll do that again LOL.

Have a lunch date with 2 friends on Thu so will be a 66 hour fast instead this week.

On the brighter side I went ahead and treated myself to some HWC in my coffee since I already broke my fast. I’ll be on black coffee starting tomorrow morning.

(Susan) #258

That is okay! Everyone has the oh no moments =)). Have a nice lunch time meal with your friends on Thursday =)).

(Bob M) #259

Some people really like black coffee, but I have to say coffee is just better with HWC. When I was in the military, I got deathly sick due to bad milk (which I drank only in my coffee), so I went black for a long time. That also fit into my super-low-fat diet at the time. But I find even just a tad of cream in coffee helps the flavor. Like you, I leave the cream out when I fast, though.

Although I always have issues with reentry to eating, I think magnesium is the culprit here or at least did not help. I take magnesium capsules gingerly for this reason, and usually try not to mix with fasting. I use a magnesium oil instead, though dosing is basically useless. That is, if you spray 5 sprays on each leg, how much Mg did you get on there and how much will really get absorbed? No idea.
