Interesting thread, lots of good information.

I am just shy of two weeks in. I am stoked to say that this has not been difficult and I have not been craving anything and have not eaten in between meals, which alone are amazing to me. Anyway, I have started getting lazy with my macros and meal planning and am going to get back at it. I have been just at or below my protein macro, below net ten on the carbs but can go over significantly on the fat (should be 113 but have gone to 145, etc.). From what I’m reading, it sounds like I should probably keep closer to 113 or thereabouts?

I started keto on 1/24/19 at 255 pounds. I’m a 5’3” female so well overweight. I’ve lost 12 pounds as of this morning. I was counting calories a couple of weeks before starting keto so I lost most of my water weight then which isn’t included in the 12 pounds. I’ve done some IF over the past couple of weeks but usually only go 16-18 hours every other day so I’m a lightweight on that. So anxious to get healthy. I’m bone on bone in both knees so my exercise has been lacking & I need to get that in gear.

What are your macros for today? Post a pic & I bet someone will chime in …

That is me & I am done for the day!

Love your progress!! Question - how often do you fast in a given week ( omad , IF or EF )? Thanks!!

(Christy) #106

Okay, I lied lol. I was craving a salad :woman_shrugging:t3:

Thanks Zeranity. During the week days I only eat dinner (unless I feel a little blah, then I will eat something earlier, but not very often) and on the weekends I eat breakfast or lunch (once in awhile I do skip) and dinner with my family. I just did a 48 hour Fast, first one in a few months (only did 3 or 4 before this one).

thank you so much for your input and sharing your progress! even though no weight loss yet my mom commented that i look better, and seem more energetic so thats encouraging. I was not a horrible eater before KETO, but I did indulge in chocolate and twizzlers and sometimes a whole bag of popcorn without a care. I’ve always been active so could get away with a little here and there. My mom also has been a low carb dieter her whole life and said it took her 8 weeks to lose weight. its like one day she woke up and her pants fell off! Waiting for that day! you are lucky to be a unicorn ;)))

I’ve been following the Keto plan since January 6th this year. When I started my weight was 80kg (176bs), today it’s 71kg (156lbs). I’m male, 62 and 170cms (5’ 7”).
I’m moderately active but since going Keto coincided with a frozen shoulder setting in, I’ve been doing quite a bit more stretching & weights than before. I’ve decided to do more gym work, hoping to hang on to the mobility I’ve got and improve matters where it’s lacking.

The weight loss is more than I expected as I thought I’d plateau at around 75kg, so I’ll keep going and see where it leads. I don’t think I’m fully keto-adapted yet as I’m still getting hunger pangs but my energy levels are definitely improving. At present, I’m eating twice-a-day at 3pm & 6pm, with nothing outside of my eating window except tea, coffee and water.
Other benefits (apart from weight loss) I’ve experienced have been a massive improvement in my skin tone, hair condition and dental health; I definitely have less aches & pains than before in my hands & feet and my mood & outlook has been great. I’m considering moving to OMAD to see how that works for me once the hunger pangs subside.

All-in-all, I’m fairly happy with my progress and I now consider Keto to be a long-term thing, not a quick-fix. I don’t miss any of the carbs I gave up; grocery shopping is fun again and not a guilt-trip. Only thing I regret is not taking ‘before-and-after’ selfies to remind myself of the benefits gained and progress made. On the other hand, my now-2-sizes-too-big jeans are helping in this department!

Well, I weighed this morning and have gone from 225 on 1/2/19 to 205 today, basically OMAD but there’s a window that’s just a little too big sometimes. Today though, it was only an hour and a half.
For much of the 2 months and 5 days since I started OMAD, I had a real problem with diarrhea, and had stopped taking magnesium and begun getting some light leg cramps, but for the past week or 10 days everything has gone back to normal (YES!) and I’ve been able to restart mg threonate at 125 mg.
I have found that once a week I’m comfortable with adding a 2nd keto meal in the event there is some social reason to eat earlier in the day. I think it’s important not to be too rigid with OMAD since it will likely be with me for the duration of 2019 before my excess weight is gone.
I am really looking forward to a doctors visit to look at my CBC and blood pressure! That won’t be till Apr when we’re back home in VA, as we spend Feb /Mar in TX.

Hey Christine, I have been playing and experimenting with different apps the last few weeks. I started Keto last April or May, lost my weight from 164 to 146. I stopped tracking and had gotten lazy about measuring and documenting but still trying to stay on Keto. Gained a bit of weight to 153 and said, Oh! Oh!. I better get the scale out and start measuring again. I started using the premium version of My Fitness Pal and it has a lot of great aspects to it but I started having trouble scanning some of the food labels. It also did not have as complete of a list of differing / common foods as I had hoped. And it was not offering the weight measurements in grams. I find I like measuring most of my food that I log in my food diary in grams rather than in ounces or cups. I decided to try another app, Cronometer, that I purchased the premium version previously. I find it very accurate, scanning food labels are easy, they have a large selection of common organic food already listed and they offer appropriate weights for food in gms or whatever you want. It just not offer the ability to select multiple food selections at a time… Bummer! My Fitness Pal does. And my Fitness does not synch with my Fitness Pal not matter what I tried to trouble shoot this. Cronometer picks up my Fitbit without any trouble. So there you have it. I tried another app this weekend but did not like it…Simple Stupid Keto. Love you to hear from anyone else. I think I need to stay close to my macros by using an app.

I had my gallbladder out at the end of January. I can only speak for myself, but I haven’t missed it at all and went right back to Keto after a few days of chicken soup. I just wish I hadn’t spent three years blaming my issues on GERD before the old gallbladder started sending up flares of discontent and got recognized for what it was.

In response to the thread, I’m down 60 pounds in about 3 years and have been just sitting for quite a while. I’d like to lose some more, but I count being able to avoid gaining anything back as a win, thanks to being able to keep to a keto way of eating.

(Dina sha) #116

how often do you do OMAD?
every day?

#117

I’m down nearly 17 lbs. in 11 weeks, so just over 1-1/2 lbs./week. This has been sort-of steady–no big drop at the beginning, but with a lot of ups and downs along the way. I’m a female in my early 50s, so I have to keep tweaking and do a lot to get that rate of loss. Otherwise, I think it would be half that.

(Ethan) #118

All of it initially. I’ve been stalled a while, but don’t care. I just went carnivore, and the way I feel makes me think it’s about to drop again—either from no plants or no dairy.

#119

11 weeks in and 4 lbs down…lost first two pounds at week 9. Talk about discouraging! But, I believe there are changes happening and am staying the course. I posted my frustration here about week 7 and got some great encouragement and advice and started IF that week based on the advice received. For me, hearing about the non scale successes are the most inspiring and what help me stick to keto.

(Marianne) #120

My weight loss has been moderate as well, however, I am feeling a lot of NSVs. My blood pressure is much better (thinking I can get off medication soon); I don’t hurt when I walk (in fact, I can walk at a great clip with no pain or discomfort whatseover); an old groin injury from over thirty years ago that flared almost constantly and was debilitating and would almost take my leg out from under me, is completely gone (!); my belly doesn’t stick out farther than my chest; I am not a slave to the addiction of food, etc. I’m sure you have many NSVs of your own!

(Judy Thompson) #121

That could be my problem, my “OMAD” can take 3 or 4 hours to complete with the small meal to break the fast and with evening work hours.
I guess I’ll tread water until I’m ready to make a bigger commitment - my first 25 lbs this year will keep me going for awhile. And, hubby says I continue to look better all the time despite lack of progress on the scale.
