New Year 2018 fast?

(Shane Poynter) #63

I broke my new year’s fast at 36 hours. The last 5 hours were spent working at a house fire. I felt great during the fire but when I got off of shift I felt like I needed to eat. Sat down to four eggs with arugula/chard and blue cheese and four slices of bacon. I wish I could have gone longer, i’ll try again in a couple of weeks.

36 hours is awesome (and better than zero hours!) how did you find eggs for a way to
Break your fast? I feel like I read somewhere that they can sometimes upset the stomach after an extended fast?

(Andrew) #65

I made it 100 hrs again. I have trouble with day 4. Background hunger is better but the waves get taller and taller. My wife and room mate spent the whole day cooking. On day 4 I think I can smell and uncooked egg at 100 yards.

Bone broth made it much harder. My BG soars after a cup. Now I know.

Wish my hunger would reset. It’s great after the fast. I can hardly eat 1/4 meal.

My stomach is very sad. Didn’t have any trouble after the first fast. Hot sauce was a bad idea I guess. Still hasn’t calmed down.

Happy New Years everyone.

I had no ill affects from breaking my fast with eggs

(Marie Dantoni) #67

Started feeling very hungry so I’m breaking fast . It went pretty easy, but my body telling me it’s time to eat again.

(Becky Searls) #68

I also get heightened sense of smell, etc on extended fasts! Hubby is supportive and just went out to eat so I wouldn’t smell or see food. I am hitting that kind of lazy stage in the fast where I’m
Not really hungry but just feel like eating, ya know? Staying with it at almost 40 hrs, just a few tummy rumbles.

(Michael ) #69

Just took some more salt. Feeling ok but could eat. I’m going to just push on. At least 3 days for this one but will shoot for 5

Yesterday I had some macadamias at the end of the day again. Looking like my fast is morphing into some kind of IF/EF blend. Hunger was less of an issue but still not gone and energy lower. Yesterday I had to sit in a movie theatre where the smell of hot popcorn was significant - interestingly no saliva response/craving for which I am immensely grateful.
So this is day 6 of my modified fast. Interestingly the macadamias haven’t altered the path of my BG and ketones which today are BG2.8 and Ket6.4. Weight down about 2kgs of which, according to my scales, 1.5kg is fat.

I was starting to get headache this morning and drank my ketoaide. Headache gone!

22 hours in and I feel great. Day 2 is always the worst, but I’ll be super busy as it’s my first day back to work after the holidays. Staying busy helps me fast.

(Mary Kubasak) #73

I’m starting the year as I intend to go on, so at this point I’m about 20 hours into a fast. Not quite sure yet how long I am going to go for, I have been edging in the direction of ketogenic for most of a month, but have several derailments over the holidays, so don’t really know if I am fat adapted yet or not. I’m going for the “nothing except black coffee/tea/water in my mouth” which I think counts as an actual fast, with a side order of “try a little salt/Mg/K and some water if the way I am feeling makes me think I might be hungry” - drink some water, and then wait half an hour or so, if something that looks like hunger remains, then maybe that is the right time to stop…

Anything I should add into this, or will that start me off correctly…?

(Becky Searls) #74

Sounds perfect!

(Michael ) #75

Im freezing and it’s 73 in my house. I wish my body would throw a few more ketones on the fire

(Mary Kubasak) #76

Doh! - how annoying, yeah, you’d think it would realize that you had some spare stores of fat around to warm things up…

Although, the reason I usually have cold feet is that I have a cat sitting on me stopping the circulation…

Soooo, I’m approaching 48 hours and feel pretty good. I had a tough “dinner time” when my wife made a delicious-looking ham and cheese omelet covered in sour cream! i have finally convinced her to go keto, so I wasn’t that sad. It did suck a little though. I ran the gauntlet today by getting anchored in the cookbook section of the bookstore, then going to the grocery store. Self inflicted wound, but I stayed strong. There was something good that I realized though. While the cravings were intense, I ONLY craved fatty foods! Walked right past all of the carbage, and started fantasizing about cooking a rib-eye steak cooked in some pig butter! I’m going to call it a win! 24 more hours!

(Michael ) #78

I mostly crave steak but i could hear someone eating chips and salsa while I was playing Xbox and they sounded pretty good. My sauerkraut is finished so I’m going to go bratwurst shopping tomorrow or Thursday to prepare

(Michael ) #79

So who’s still going at new years fast? I’m at 50 hours. Rumbling tummy and thinking about steak but I won’t break tonight. I’ll go until at least tomorrow night but maybe 5 days as long as i feel ok. 5 has been my limit in the past. Mostly just from feeling down in the dumps. I’m assuming that if i could make it past 5, i would start feeling better. At least that’s what most people experience. Renewed energy, lack of hunger and euphoria after 5 to 7 days. Would love to experience some new highs while potentially killing cancer cells, but not sure how i will feel tomorrow. Didn’t sleep well last night. I think i made this harder by eating so much cheese and sweeteners over Christmas. I was knocked out of ketosis for a few days so not as adapted as I’d like to be.

Decided to break today. Feeling too lethargic. Didn’t get a good nights sleep either. One of my dreams was eating huge slabs of bread lol!

Still going at 51h. Having a fair bit of energy - hence posting comments and reading at 1050pm. Longest I’ve gone before is 7days. Once I got to about this point, it does kind of level off. Cravings are more seeking a mouth feel than any actual hunger. My goal is somewhat open ended. As long as I feel ok - will still go. I still have a lot of fuel left hanging off my behind so I should be good for awhile. :stuck_out_tongue:

Still going at hour 58, energy level is great, mental focus is fantastic. Minimal cravings. Lots of water and salt only. My energy was waning a bit last night, but did a four minute Nitric Oxide exercise https://youtu.be/PwJCJToQmps and felt better. Sleep was also great, doubled my Magnesium before bed. Scale is moving, but not paying much attention to that. It’s easy to forget when feasting, how much time you actually spend cooking, cleaning, prepping, etc. I’ve spent at least an extra 2 hours a night reading and consuming self-development content. Fasting switch is on!!!
