August 2018 IF / EF Chat ALL WELCOME

(Sybella) #41

Hope you get better soon Allie.

#42

Wow, I hate horseflies, but don’t recall ever seeing anyone have a reaction like this. Sorry to hear it. Hope it heals soon.

#43

Day 1 of EF today: water, salt, ACV and black coffee.

(back and doublin' down) #44

That’s the spirit!

(Allie) #45

I’ve been bitten before and it’s never flared like this before, but apparently it all depends on what it feasted on before it got to you and what bugs it transports over to you :frowning:

The damn things are everywhere this year too, and compared to many other people, I’ve got off lightly! :open_mouth:

(Doug) #46

Finishing up Day 6. Been thinking a good bit about food the last 24 hours. :slightly_frowning_face:

(back and doublin' down) #47

Way to Go, Doug! Thinking about food and deciding to end fast are two different things. My EFs are often filled with recipe searching and plotting cooking adventures ~ then, after an initial feast, I tend to go ‘bleh…what to eat?’ Congrats on six days!

@Shortstuff "in 2018 you can die of an insect bit’ eeek! Very glad you went for the meds and hope your day at work doesn’t set you back! Definitely a stress on the body.

#48

Good point. I never thought about what they might have feasted on beforehand. Makes sense.

I actually just purchased a couple bug zappers a few weeks ago, due to the overwhelming insects we were seeing. And they are working overtime too! But we’re seeing a reduction in them as well.

(Allie) #49

I hope your zappers give you some protection, there’s so many nastiest around this year. I’ve gently escorted four wasps out of my office so far today.

(Doug) #50

Thank you, Susan. :slightly_smiling_face: I was hoping to go the entire month - ambitious as my longest fast ever was 10 days, and perhaps overly so due to wanting to ‘rebound’ after a vacation and some dietary “sinning.”

You’re right - quitting the fast and thinking about food aren’t the same. Have to laugh at myself; been reading a novel and descriptions of meals, even making a sandwich - have been hitting me hard.

#51

14 hours into an EF and just cruising.

What are thoughts on bone broth in terms of it potentially breaking a fast? I feel like it might be my secret weapon to getting past the 72 hour mark. I’m trying to lose more weight before my vacation

(Doug) #52

Kris, with the protein content, bone broth will mess up autophagy to some extent, at least for a bit. However, if bone broth means continuing the fast, rather then ending it, then I’d say by all means go with the broth.

#53

I’ve yet to get past the 72 hour mark. This will be my 4th attempt.

(TJ Borden) #54

I’ve always found the first 48 the hardest, then after that it seems pretty easy. I’ve made it to the 100 hour mark a couple times and would love to push further just for fun, but it’s always tough for me to find a big enough span of time that doesn’t have some kind of work or social obligation where it wouldn’t be super awkward to fast.

#55

Ha! Those are always interesting conversations! Half my office is keto and the other half think we have eating disorders. My coworkers haven’t seen me eat in 4 months lolol.

#56

Current blood ketones cruising at 2.0 mmol.

(Doug) #57

I think that to some extent it’s always a roll of the dice. In general, fasting does get easier the more we do it, and the longer we go, but there are plenty of outliers, at least in my experience. 2/3 or 3/4 of the time, at some point in a fast, I will say, “Easiest fast ever.” Yet the next one might be a real booger.

(What The Fast?!) #58

Hey all! I’m joining in a little late. I did some PSMF fasting last week - I did 24 hour water/coffee, then PSMF with about 100g of protein, minimal fat. I refed on keto food for one day then repeated. PSMF didn’t go well for me (I felt full so that part was great) but I didn’t get any desired results plus it created some digestive problems…SOOOO back to regular fasting it is!

I’m thinking about going ADF for the next few weeks, but if I feel good, I might make the fasts longer than 36-42 hours. Let’s see how it goes - only about 16 hours in right now. It’s funny how some fasts are a breeze and some are a fight!

(Allie) #59

That’s the problem I keep having, I aim at 36 hours but feel good so keep going… once I’ve got rid of this darn leg infection I’ll have another go at ADF.

I like doing OMAD from Monday through Thursday so this was my breakfast today in anticipation of fasting until breakfast tomorrow, and it made me feel like I had just eaten a huge meal of carbage. I had that weird hyper heart flutter AND I felt like carb coma was coming at the same time.

Only thing I think is maybe I just ate too early. I don’t usually eat breakfast until about 10, I only drink my coffee, but I wanted to eat before I went to work 'cause I knew I’d be too busy to prep something at work.

I checked my BG while I was having those feelings about 10 minutes after I ate and it was 97. I seem to live around 90-100, unless I have Halo Top like the other night.
