APRIL 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

(Andi loves space, bacon and fasting. ) #161

checking in at a bit past 24 hours. I left work angry (it’s the time of the year for super-contentious department meetings) and went immediately for acupuncture and my first round of cupping. Not sure yet about the cupping but it felt super cool and I feel pretty great right now. The goal with the cupping was to prevent my neck from locking up, as it sometimes does when I’m stressed out. I’ll keep you posted. Also, I look like I got in a fight with an octopus :octopus::squid::purple_heart:

When I got home I had a strong urge for coffee, so I made myself a cup of decaf and put in some coconut oil, butter and a bit of cream. So not a true water fast for me this time.

Hope you all are well!!! :muscle::purple_heart::sunglasses:

Broke fast just now at 95. My longest yet. Woo hoo. Was thinking of starting again monday, is that too much? I have been doing 72 a week with 95 this week for 5 weeks i think. Should i take a break?

(Carol) #163

This thread is so busy I’m having trouble keeping up with you all! Just a little update for me. Ended my fast at 88 hours and did my half fast refeed today and tomorrow I will be back to regular keto eating. yay! Cocktails and dinner this weekend so I may be back for more fasting shortly.

@Tee2 That is a hard question to answer. I found myself fasting a lot and finally had to track it. I want to make sure I get enough nutrition in besides fasting. But, if I fast for 36 hours and am still feeling good I just go until I think it’s time to replenish. So ??? IIRC, Dr. Fung suggested either 3x42 hour fasts or 1x72 hour fast a week. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

currently at 36h. had only 4 h of sleep again, but today my mood is better. probably go for 56h I have two pork roasts thawing up to prepare pulled pork to keep handy in the freezer for sudden needs for breaking a fast (want to get off that cured meats habit)

Also, big NSV. I went down two! belt holes this past 6 weeks even though it had only been 4 pounds that I lost, I am wearing a shirt that didn’t fit for the last 6 years (and was a lot tighter when I bought it)

#165

Not Fasting presently but same here, only got 4 hrs. sleep tonight. My Pup that’s still in a cast, woke me at 2am to go out and I wasn’t able to get back to sleep. (It’s presently 4am, but I’m up at 5am normally) Funny, we also just pulled out some Pulled Pork for tonight as well. Wife’s been making & freezing portions for quick use. Specially since she’s got a BBQ sauce she really likes now.

Congrats on the NSV’s. :+1:

As Carol mentioned, there’s no one easy answer. But you simply have to see how your body feels and make sure you’re getting enough meals in-between Fast. … Like some others, there are/were times I seem to be Fasting more than not, but I’ve been trying to make sure I don’t go too crazy at times. (I do enjoy good meals too, but I also keep track of Fasting times on my chart so I can look back to see if I’m doing a bit much) But basically I’ve been using the same two day feedings between Fast, and simply eating TMAD for those two days. So as long as I do this, I don’t worry too much and just Fast as much as I feel like doing. (I know this is something that’s suggested for Fasting)

A little over 32 hours in. Slept 5 hours, no REM or deep sleep, but I don’t feel bad. Did my waist measurements this morning, the one across my belly button, the main one I’ve been tracking hasn’t budged for months. I see people saying on this forum, don’t weigh, use the tape or the fit of your clothes to track your progress. Well I don’t see results on the tape nor my clothes lately but I do on the scale. Body fat percentage is going down, weight is going down, and muscle mass is going up according to my smart scale. Well finally today I saw a decrease in my belly measurement! I’ve been stuck at 31 inches since late January, it is now 30 inches. My stomach is my main bone of contention at this point. At 47 years old I doubt I’ll ever have the flat, defined tummy from my 20s but I hate the flabbiness and the pooch. So that’s my NSV for today. Sleep supplements should arrive today from Amazon, hoping for some decent sleep soon. Breaking my fast around 2 today for 42 hours and probably won’t fast again until Monday. Happy fasting/feeding all!

I find the tape problematic as well, it is sooo hard to tell where exactly I am losing.
I go by clothe fit mostly. things are starting to get expensive though :rofl::sweat_smile:

#168

Same here. I actually prefer to start most of my Fast following Sunday night’s meal. Plus I do enjoy eating on Weekends, and Fasting during the Work week is much better to me, especially since I really don’t like eating while at work. I do occasionally, but mostly I don’t. … Congrats on the NSV.

(Tamela Robinette) #169

I hate the tape lol mainly because I would actually have to write down the results to track lol. At least the smart scale tracks for me. Yeah the clothes thing is getting ridiculous. I haven’t had to buy new pants (this time) because apparently I’ve built muscle in that area but I have to go buy new summer shirts today. All my tanks are huge on me. I want to show off my new muscular arms

Yes! I was so miserable last weekend when hubby and I met friends at a bar/grill to watch basketball and I was fasting. I made it through but I told myself “no more fasting on the weekend!”

#171

:+1: … I pretty much decided shortly after switching over to this WOE, that weekends are for creating recipes, preparing & eating good meals & enjoying whatever activities arise. So weekdays are my Fasting preferences overall, so you normally see me break Fast usually by Friday at the latest.

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #172

That is my take too, unless it is more convenient to fast when I am on the go all day on a sat or sunday

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #173

Same here Dave. Tonight we have dinner out with a dear friend and tomorrow we have basketball to watch which means wings and

stuff jalapenos

Today I was planning on pushing lunch till 2 pm or 3 pm and might try a little coconut oil in coffee at noon just to see how it goes. I’m thinking tomorrow is strict OMAD with the late eating planned.

I plan on trying for a 72 hr fast Sunday night. I have an appt with a new cardiologist in a couple of weeks and what to drop a couple of pounds more before I meet with him.

His bio says this “His commitment to treating the whole patient–body, mind, and spirit” and my PCP says he takes into account lifestyle. I’m cautiously optimistic.

@Don_Q has done some interesting research on his own metabolism and how it responds to fasting and feasting. Details here. My take-home from his work is that it’s important to really feast between fasts to keep your metabolism high. You are planning a 3 day feast, I think that should be enough.

He keeps changing his recommendations as he gathers more data. I think now for weight loss he recommends 2x48 or 3x24 per week.

#175

I think that’s what I heard the last time I was checking around. Also, (If I’m not mistaken) It was recently mentioned stuff like 5 day fast weren’t as recommended but a couple times a year, with one suggestion of only 1 in a year? … But I’ve been thinking for myself, I may just look at doing a 5-day, every 2 to 3 months, but want to make sure to put in more of the 48’s and 72’s here and there. But I also feast well between Fast, at least 2 days, regardless of the Fasting length.

#178

Hope the day goes by quickly for ya. Same here, since I’ve been up since 2am. :expressionless: Will probably make for an even longer day, especially since It’s Friday.

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #179

4 more hours of torture (work), then an outing with my ladies. As an extreme extrovert that always gives me tons of energy. can’t wait…

My new doc was a cardiologist before giving up her lucritive private practice in January to open a wholistic practice. She said she was tired of providing sick care, and wanted to help people stay well and age well instead.
