5-Day Fast Diary / Tracker

#1

Starting my first fast with a goal of longer than 1-2 days. Shooting for 5 days. I’m a little excited and a little scared so I bought blood glucose and blood pressure monitors for peace of mind. I do know to, and will for sure, stop my fast if I’m not feeling well. I’ll listen to my body, except for a lying grumbly tummy.

Background:

Started Keto almost 4 months ago:
June 12th @ 190 pounds
Today, October 5th @ 160 pounds
50 years old, female, 5’2”
Single, with one super cute doggy

I’ve been fortunate to have not had any major health issues. My blood glucose one time was “prediabetic” but my other measures were strong so my doc said I had a favorable blood lipid profile. (Or something like that.) My heart rate is the only thing that’s caused red flags. I routinely show a heart rate above 100, often above 120, just sitting still. It does drop to 65-75 when I’m really at rest. I’ve had all the heart testing done, worn a monitor, stress tests, scans, etc. No physical/structural heart problems.

Plan

Saturday, today
Starting after dinner. I’ve had breakfast and lunch already. For dinner I’ll be eating a breakfast casserole made with eggs, spicy sausage, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, cheese, served with sour cream and jalapeños.

Continue the fast through Thursday and have something small around dinnertime. I’m off work on Friday so if things get a little sketchy with refeeding, I can stick around the house for a few days. I’m going to try just water and black coffee but am not against adding a little HWC if I need to. I’ve got my pink Himalayan salt ready and will pick up some magnesium citrate tomorrow just in case.

Measures
Blood Glucose today
before eating: 81, 81, 82
after eating: 84, 85, 86

Blood Pressure today
Ranged from 114/78 to 128/86

More to come.

12 Hours
Weight was up this morning but I really feasted ahead of time. I was expecting a little jump.
BG was 93 when I woke up. Down to 91 at 12 hours in. I’ll measure every 3 hours.

Coming up with ideas for things to distract myself. Sundays are typically my grocery and cook/prep days. Will definitely be painting my nails to be presentable at work this week, but the rest of the day, not sure.
Here’s my list.

  • Paint fingernails and toenails
  • Clean out closet, get rid of old clothes to donate
  • Clean baseboards and around edges of floors
  • Practice ukulele/guitar (before painting nails)
  • Organize garage
  • Update photos in picture frames around the house
  • Watch a movie
  • Organize office
  • Post stuff for sale on eBay/FB/NextDoor
  • Sleep
  • Follow-up on work stuff

21 Hours
Going well so far. Drinking more water than I typically do, eating some salt. No issues. Tummy grumbly but not too bad. I’ve had about 6 ozs of black coffee twice.

From my distraction list, I’ve been tackling my closet getting rid of clothes in disrepair, clothes that no longer fit, clothes that make me wonder WTH I was thinking when I bought them. Two big garbage bags full and ready for donation. I’ve also rediscovered a few items I forgot about, that were too small and now they fit.

The first 24 hours seems easy since I’ve done it many times. The real milestone for me will be around the 48 hour mark. I’m hoping since I’m doing this during the work week that I’ll be distracted the majority of each day. Fingers crossed. :crossed_fingers:

@atomicspacebunny
Thank you for this! I watched the entire thing and found it interesting, not to mention it helped another hour to pass without food.

Almost 48 hours in.
Just started feeling a little headache coming on. I guess that’s probably normal for this point in a fast. Everything else is going well. Work is keeping me busy. I have also started to give meditation another try. Was eating salt yesterday but just got the magnesium citrate today to make a big match of Ketoaide. So, I’ve started that now, too. Here are some numbers for fun.

Looking good!

I think that is the original video that made people aware of fasting!

Those are some pretty extensive medically supervised fasts they were talking about!

What is so fascinating is the endless reversal of some very serious medical conditions in their medical archives? Main stream medical community will be screaming it’s not possible?

I personally would not even attempt a fast for more than 10 days without medical supervision, I’m too chicken…lol

They were talking about two week fasts or more, that is pretty deep stuff?

So far, so good. BG still trending down. Feeling great.
