What did you learn today?
just find a strain that doesnāt make you want to eat unless you have unlimited jerky or biltong
Ok, so I admit itās not a common ingredient nowdays but it used to be and the FDA does still consider it safe as a food additive. But if Iāve convinced you to think twice about eating vanilla frosting again, then Iāve accomplished my goal.
Post vacation learnings and gratitude.
First I am grateful that I donāt have to travel for work other than once or twice a year. Many years ago I was a āroad warriorā and flew from city to city up to 48 weeks a year. Iām sure my metabolic health suffered the most in those years.
I am grateful for the advice I got here pre-disney vacation. Snacks, cooler in car and avoid meals in park when possible.
I am grateful my wife supports my WOE and my carb daughter does not make negative comments. She is neutral on supporting @Hopeoftheflame and myself.
Two of us skipped every breakfast. @Hopeoftheflame was a good keto partner. Thanks, daughter #1. Saved bad food and $$. Felt better and had energy.
Snacks that worked as meal substitutes
- macadamia nuts
- dukes mini-sausages
- port rinds
- cheese
- almonds in limited quantity
- water bottle with us all the time
- We had two okay dinners in the park and much better dinners outside of the park. Cuban and Mexican can be keto. A small amount of black beans or refried beans and ribeye steaks.
- missed bacon and eggs
- missed the olive oil
- missed salads (arugula and spinach is my fav)
- missed daily exercise
- power chairs are good but $$ for people with iffy feet
- I did not eat in the park except for the 2 dinners - keto makes me stronger, fasting makes me stronger
I did drink some red wine most nights (<=2 glasses) to help me sleep in a crowded hotel room.
I lost 1 lb and think the biggest negative was getting too much bad oil. Iām a little inflamed in my arthritic joints and hope this week that fasting and good fat will reverse that quickly.
Oh, we had a great time in all 4 parks and the girls (20yo, 26yo) did universal studios one day. Post vacation had to drive youngest to Boston and fly home to escape the snow in a day and 1/4. Same snacks. The plan works.
That is my story and Iām sticking to it.
I learned that clearing out the cache and cookies after one year fixes a lot of issues on the laptop.
I learned⦠to calculate yougurt into your net carbs FIRST before serving yourself 1 cup.
I also learned 170 grams of fresh raspberries turn out to be 9 net carbs!!! So much for low carb berriesā¦
Thatās 6 oz of raspberries, which is a lot at one time. Keep portion size under control and raspberries are just fine.
My typical serving size is 3 oz. They come in little 6 oz plastic trays at my grocer, and I will usually eat about half a tray one day and half the next or the day after.
If I could generalise this rule - calculate EVERYTHING first.
I also learned 170 grams of fresh raspberries turn out to be 9 net carbs!!! So much for low carb berriesā¦
Far out thatās a LOT! If I have them after dinner, Iāll have 30g of blackberries with 30g of mousse. Eight times that many is HUGE.
Hey I was just about to say the same thing. For a very rare treat we do sugar free whipped cream (HWC, vanilla and a few drops of stevia) on 2 to 4 oz of raspberries. Maybe 2 to 3 times a year.
Cake and cookies arenāt keto, and they get pretty stale by the time the year is up!
I learned by my wife that I eat leftover butter lettuce like a carnivore. I also snort lettuce when I laugh. I may be an animal.
