What did you Keto today? Part Deux!

#904

Ooh, I love these interactive pictures!

(Kirk) #905

Haddock, cauliflour rice, snap peas and onoins

Breakfast of champions!
Consumed around 5 pm :joy:
Bacon :bacon: wave, dripping were used to fry fluffy scrambled eggs with sour cream and a side of veggies and goat cheese sautƩed in glorious butter. Little keto roll for a company

(Joanna Parszyk ) #907

Baked goods! Works well as a recipe for pancakes, waffles, bread. I used different forms but used fantastic recipe from this link. For me the best l ever tried :yum:

(Blessed with butter ) #908

made 30 pounds of kraut today. So I had cabbage mayo and boiled egg salad. Then opened up 8 pumpkins we got for free and roasting the seeds

(Running from stupidity) #909

Ghee. Turned a kilo of butter into Ghee. May have overcooked it by a couple of minutes, I guess we’ll see when it cools down (and I get back from the market). Looks a lot more like burned butter than Ghee right now, but it’s super-hot, and it’s cooling in the jar.

In addition to the Ghee, I walked to the markets and bought this, then cut and packed it. (5.7kg rump steak, ready to sous vide, and 2.5kg bacon.) I keep putting the weight on them although there’s no point. At least I’ve managed to stop writing the butcher on it, given I always buy it from the same place.

Fasting since last night until tomorrow lunchtime. Timing is a wonderful thing.

@Judy1437
I love a frugal girl! Bravo!!!

I still write the weight on mine and the date. Sometimes I write what it is even if it is obvious. Of course my weight is in the arcane lbs and oz scheme. Not grams like yours. Funny think is I think in terms of grams for fat and MCT oil etc. but bulk weight in terms of lbs ozs. I’m a crazy american.

(Running from stupidity) #913

No idea why I write ā€œrumpā€ on it given it’s the only steak I buy

The most amusing one is grams per pound of lean body mass for protein

Rib Eye for me. I still write it on the pack. It’s the scientist in me (I was a chemist in my early years).

Been scratching my head over that since going keto.

(Running from stupidity) #915

Can’t afford rib eye, sadly, but rump is pretty good after 24 hours in the sous vide, and it’s about a third of the price.

It is amusing for the rest of the world, indeed

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #916

Humm. Can’t afford a sous vide. I think my frame of reference is different than yours. I buy a strip or loin (not sure what to call it) of Rib Eye and cut my own from a big box store. Saves me several $US / LB.

I really need to get a sous vide. How do you sear your beef after sous vide?

(Running from stupidity) #917

Yeah, I get that. It’s good to see the price is coming down these days, though. I suspect there might be some good Amazon specials on them is a few weeks. I think I’d buy an Anova if I was buying another. Which, TBH, I might well do if they do have any good specials at some point, as my current one is usually tied up with doing steak for 24 hours at a time…

Yeah, that’s $30/kg here. Rump was $10/kg. So today paid for over half of the cost of my sous vide in savings given I bought nearly 6kg.

Really hot pan, usually with some ghee in it. About a minute or so each side. I have to be careful, though, because our extractor fan is crap, and our building smoke detectors are insanely sensitive.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #918

Time to spend the money.

($30AUS/KG * 0.72 $US/$AUS) / 2.2 lbs /KG = $9.81 $US/lb rib eye
I pay about $9US/lb so the price is about the same, little cheaper here.

$9.81 * (10/30) = $2.24US/lb for Rump Roast - WOW

Gosh, I’m not sure that in the states I can find any beef for that price. Will have to look. I can get chuck roast for $4.50US/lb. I use Chuck for ground burgers and ground meat dishes. I’ve read about sous vide with chuck (24 hours) and have to try that because people say it is really good.

Okay I think this black Friday is Sous Vide day for me.

Thanks for all the info. Have a great day.

BTW - What part of Australia are you in? I’m on the east coast of the US in Richmond, VA, UA.

(Running from stupidity) #919

I think it’s 3.27/lb. But it’s already sliced (pretty thick), which is nice.

Tougher steaks cooked for longer are AWESOME.

Sous vide is great for anyone, but it’s that times about a million for keto.

South-east corner. Melbourne, second-biggest but easily the best city in the country

(Ellen) #920

Loved Melbourne

(Joanna Parszyk ) #921

I guess today is the perfect french omelette on the menu

(Allie) #922

Lamb ribs with turmeric and black pepper mayo for breakfast. Now I’m going to have to make more mayo again as it’s all gone.

(Janelle) #923

Didn’t take a pic but was invited to the in-laws and so I made a pot roast in the Instant Pot. She’s a former nurse and my father-in-law had a couple of heart attacks after likely doing Atkins poorly. She gave me all kinds of grief until she ate that pot roast with fresh asparagus and cauliflower mash with sour cream and butter. For dessert, we had a few berries and fresh whipped cream. Not another peep for the rest of the night.
