What did you Keto today? Part Deux!

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #301

I like to do 2 or 4 at a time. I’m challenged. Wife is allergic to the smoke. She can eat the pork, or salmon or cheese or whatever I do but not be around when I smoke. And you know pulled pork is a long day.

I told her this morning it is time to visit her sister. :cheese:

Do you smoke salt?

@carl has a smoker now.

(I Am The Egg Man ku-ku-kachoo) #302

I don’t, but have a friend who does and raves about it. TBH I’ve never tasted smoked salt. Is it really all that?

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #303

It is really good to have around, especially now that we need more salt. I can get some smokey goodness on eggs for example.

Taste not that great by itself. But on food, yes.

If you don’t mind: What’s your recipe/technique?

If a PM is better, that’s fine by me. Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for the PM with tips! :grinning:

Another “tossed together” soup with lots of green stuff, a bit of tomato, leftover chicken & pork rib meat. The “salad/dip” is avocado (frozen whole, & it came out looking green and fresh! JOY! ), mayo, lemon juice, pink salt, & crushed/chopped macadamias. I just mix in the dressing until it makes my taste buds happy. I didn’t want to chop the celery, so I’m topping it instead.

EDIT: I think I actually like the salad/dip better with walnuts. The macs are a bit sweet for it.

How do you use it, or cook it?
Is a ‘traditional’ Japanese use of konjak different to the low carb, Americanized suggestions?
I’ve had a go with only one packet but they were a bit of a non-event.
Do folks in Japan go through the palaver of multiple washing and drying in a frying pan?
And what do they think of the odour which gets such poor reviews here?
What’s your favourite recipe?
Sorry, maybe too many questions!
Thank you.

Heck, I find myself hanging out in this thread the most while fasting. … Allows time to come up with new recipe ideas for meals, and possible meals to try breaking the fast with. - Though with experimentations, also comes that chance of finding those things that will have adverse reactions, causing some to ‘Tilt the Tummy’ or even worse, ending up with Keto-rhea. … But once learned, at least you know what to avoid.

(I Am The Egg Man ku-ku-kachoo) #308

Nope! Not at all. :grinning:

No. At least my mother never taught me to do that! I simply cut open the packs into a colander, rinse for a minute and drain. Fishy? A bit but it’s minor to me. I use them in asian dishes, so the odor is aligned to the style. If I was using as a pasta replacement, I’d probably do more.

I’ve grown up with two products: Noodles (shirataki) and yam cakes (konnyaku). Noodles got used in stir fry (like a chow mein) and sukiyaki (like a Japanese beef stew) while the cakes get sliced into strips and cooked with tofu, bamboo shoots and/or daikon in a sweetened soy sauce broth, then eaten with rice and pickles.

Does that help?

No pics but this evening I was in Walmart and low and behold… they had duck fat!
So, part of dinner tonight was a yolk only omelet cooked in duck fat. :yum:

#310

Came home today, and this was on the stove top.
I believe it’s called “hamburger soup” (creative, I know).

It’s got hamburger, sausage, Ro-tel tomatoes, onions, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese.

YUM!

#311

I think it might. Thank you.

There’s an enormous Chinese owned shop which stocks all sorts of Asian ingredients near where I live, I’d forgotten about it!
Here’s the link https://www.wingyip.com
I’ve found two sorts of Shirataki noodles, one is brown and coloured with seaweed powder!
I’m quite excited - all those cooking and eating possibilities! And it’s half the price of health/whole food shop alternatives.
Please will you suggest other ingredients I could buy from Wing Yip and point me in the direction of some recipes.
Thank you.

(I Am The Egg Man ku-ku-kachoo) #312

Both of the noodles are good.

What to buy? That’s a big subject. I would suggest you search for a keto asian recipe, then supply your cupboards to make it.

I buy yam noodles, tofu, chili pastes, curry seasonings, fish, meats, and produce.

Watch out: Many asian products are loaded with sugars, corn flour, rice flour, bad oils, etc. Read your labels.

Dinner tonight: Knock off Pad Thai using said shirataki noodles.

(Angela Nunn) #314

Recipe please!!! Looks so yummy I got to make these tomorrow

(Running from stupidity) #315

it’s in the thread a little bit further down from that post. Sorry I can’t give you the actual link, but I’m on my phone at the moment

(Cathy) #316

I have never been able to find Rotel. What are the ingredients? Maybe I can find a similar product.

(Adriana) #317

I’m joining the Zornfast tomorrow and saying goodbye to flours, nuts and reducing my dairy intake after the fast, so my breakfast today is chorizo pizza and coffee with HWC, my coworkers can’t believe I have lost weight eating like this :joy:

#318

Basically they’re just canned tomatoes with green chilies.

I believe you can get them from Amazon, but it looks like you might have to buy a case. Sorry. :disappointed:

We used to use it all the time when we made queso with Velveeta cheese, but not anymore.

(Keto Kid 4 Life) #319

Cute doggies Daisy!
I already ate lunch before I opened this post. I had a salad with shrimp and avocados, mozzarella cheese and feta cheese, black olives, cucumber, peppers and a can of tuna. Topped with low carb dressing.

(Chrissy) #320

Yes, what kind of rolls?
