Upping my fat intake!

Just purchased a couple pounds of pork belly to see how much I’d need each meal. I may have to go back and get more this weekend.

Yum. I have some in the freezer and will eat pork belly for a while! Are you going to be doing an experiment of only eating pork belly?

My plan is to reduce the amount of protein I’ve been eating and up my fat intake. @carl made a post the other day and started me on a quest!

I don’t know what you guys pay for it but I was all giddy when the butcher said $1.99/lb

(carl) #5

$1.69 here.

That’s awesome

Costs an arm and leg here in Canada but hey, it’s worth it!

#8

Yes, interesting, I may explore this path…

This is after cutting it up. I’ll cook a couple pieces for dinner tonight

(Athena) #10

Wow, you guys are so lucky. I just paid $6.99/lb for pork belly!

I’ve been trying to keep protein levels within my spec, but at 54 kilos, my allowance is pretty small if I aim for around 0.8-1gram per lb LBM. I tend to hit it easily.
I do like pork belly though, will be eating more once Ive depleted my current frozen stock of rib eye and the 2 dozen duck eggs Ive just been given.

Pork belly is not cured…

#14

#15

Nope it’s just a slab of pork belly… yup ask your butcher. It’s really yummy. I tire of bacon but not of pork belly.

I may have hit my macros!

Late to this thread, but those macros are top notch, my friend :+1:

Someone answer this keeping my carbs below 20 grams fat grams high protein in check … however total calories 1850 … for me this is high for calories… I can lose on this ? I know I read don’t worry about calories only worry about carbs this true …

You seem fairly new to keto so probably still fat adapting. When you have achieved this, your appetite should fall away and you probably won’t want to eat that much. Until you do, you want to keep up the fat levels so your body gets used to making and using ketones. You may not lose much until this happens but calorie restricting may well create a negative loop of lowering BMR and avoiding fat adaptation which will bite you now and later.

Keto is a long-term way of eating not a quick diet (no matter how much some people lose quickly) so patience is a requirement. as we always say, KCKO.

Wow! And I was feeling real well about paying $3.49 a lb after searching the internet for pricing after hearing the podcast. Where do you get it at that price!? We have lots of Mexican Meat Markets in Houston, great pork rinds so I asked about pork bellies just this afternoon. image|666x500
