Third Extended Fast - Keigan

Please encourage my adventure.

This is a water and salt fast with a duration of seven days, no snacks, no foods, no supplements.

I’m 6’4”, male, around 200 pounds, sedentary, some good walks. No meds and not diabetic I’ve been feasting for three days following good macros.

Objectives:

  • fat loss
  • autophagy

Day 00 Wednesday AM

  • Our story begins … My body feels good and I’m not hungry. There is the potential that the first few days will be rough from small amounts of carbs across my feasting days.

Day 00 Wednesday PM

  • My body is not in ketosis, meaning I had too many carbs on my feasting days which is just a slow start, hopefully my body returns to ketosis by Thursday night. Plenty of water today, no snacks or nibbles. A few small walks with the baby dog.

Day 01 Thursday AM

  • I slept so well last night, truly rested this morning
  • my pants are fitting differently again which is just fine
  • I feel good, clear mind, good energy, not hungry
  • trace ketones this morning
  • pants are 34 waist on belt notch 4

Are these new pants vs. the ones you had in the other fasts?

These pants are smaller than the previous fasts, a 34 waist and belt notch 4 this morning. The real difference i’m Experiencing is smaller thighs and a flatter tummy, feels good to look into the mirror.

I’ll be surprised if I get down to belt notch 5 this week.

Do you find that you go back up a little after the fast?

Yes I do go back up a little - the metabolism has slowed and the plumbing starts to hold that being consumed. I guess i’m Trying to find a good balance and it looks like i’m Headed towards a 36hour feast/fast cycle at the end of this seven day fast.

Do you plateau back up, or does it seem to increase until the next fast?

In general - After a period of extended fasting there is a small increase in weight after which I do level off and balance out.

The balance I am striving towards is to interject durations of feast and fast cycling to trick the metabolism into not slowing. Eat to fill and move on.

Day 01 Thursday PM

  • my body is definitely in ketosis
  • a few tummy growls as the plumbing sorts itself out
  • great energy, no yawning, excellent mood now that the carbs are gone
  • pants fitting better, belt notch 4 is an easy thing
  • road trip on Friday and Saturday is a good distraction to keep me busy

I have found that my fingers are much more slender (showing wrinkles on hands) during a fast. I actually lost one of my rings in the recycle bin today because it slid off my finger. When I stop a fast, that stops. Thoughts on why?

I don’t have any rings, no clue - maybe reduced blood flow during the fast.

Day 02 Friday AM

  • James Brown “ I feel good “
  • pants still on belt notch 4 though they are fitting better and it is easy to draw the belt to notch 4
  • excellent energy, clear mind, great mood, focused thinking is easy with no distracting thoughts
  • looking forward to my road trip across to Denver

Do you weigh yourself daily?

I was weighing myself daily until the scale battery gave out. Now, I prefer to monitor with the fit of my clothing. I know I’m doing a good thing for my body and i’m Very comfortable with this weight. The most significant changes have been my face, my tummy, my shoulders and neck - now I feel more change in my legs as the skin is becoming thinner with less fat underneath.

So if I drop some weight, all good. If not no big deal and I just keep moving forward.

Day 02 Friday PM

  • I was hungry today but that was due to flavored cream I added to my coffee this morning

  • body remains in ketosis

  • drive across WY went well, boring as expected

  • we continue forward

  • had some fat tonight from prime rib at hour 60

  • from here forward i’m Going into a cycle of 34:2 Fast/feast

Day 03 Saturday AM

  • slept well, awoke super early, no dreams which is usual for me
  • I feel great, excellent energt, mind clear
  • coffee with coconut oil, hand full of walnuts
  • finishing the drive from Cheyenne to Denver today

Closing this fast at 72 hours. All good, traveling has interrupted the routine a bit more than I planned. And no digestive track surprises.
