I have a question… a couple days ago I fasted for 22 hours, then ate a moderate meal. Yesterday/today I fasted for 24 hours, then ate a fairly large meal. After both times I can’t leave the restroom for quite some time after eating. What should I do differently next time to avoid this?
Edit: I should add these are the longest times I’ve gone fasting. I’ve done a few 18 hours with no tummy troubles over the last couple weeks.

You could try eating something small before your main meal. After my Zornfasts I had coffee with butter about a hour before my meal and had no issues. I usually have no issues eating normally after 24 hours.

Just finishing up my 5 day fast. It was awesome and amazing how I feel

There are also some foods you can avoid when breaking a fast. Such as Eggs, or Nuts. Some people are effected by these and they will indeed cause bathroom issues. Some can eat these with no problem, but for others they can be bothersome. Keep track of what you eat to break a fast with, and I’m sure you can find out which things to avoid. … Similar to what Hapygirl mentioned, I eat a small salad with olive oil and dressing about 30-60 minutes be a normal meal. And as long as I don’t eat eggs or nuts, I’m usually pretty good.

But there may also be other types of foods that will do this as well. Comes down to what effects us individually.

I am checking in at 37+ hours. I am pretty hungry this morning. Today coworkers are bringing their kiddos in for trick or treating. I had to move the
candy
out of my cube the smell was making me sick. I have to do yardwork tonight, bulky trash is coming next week. I plan to break tomorrow late morning but I will see how I feel after yardwork tonight.

Happy fasting everyone!

I’m enjoying ADF this week, down 4 lbs since Monday so that’s a plus! How are you @bej10?

(Beth) #389

Wow, that’s fantastic progress! Were you sleeping well all week? Wondering since when I fast over night I sometimes pop up at about 4 am and can’t get back to sleep. When are you going to break?

@Monurse, I’m doing well. Thanks for asking! I found as the week progressed it was easier to make it to the 24 mark. That worked really well this week. So well that I’m thinking about doing it again next week. The only thing that concerns me is that I don’t want to slow my metabolism, which is messed up from my years of low fat. I’m going to think on it a bit…

I’ve been sleeping alright, and have had really good energy. The only downside I’ve noticed so far is on my eating days my appetite is very small. I don’t want to force myself to eat.
That’s great! I do enjoy OMAD when I do it. That’s pretty much what I’m doing lol just every other day.

(Beth) #391

So good to hear. Are you taking a break for awhile or doing another round. Oh, by the way your new profile pic is nice.

(MelissaH) #392

Ahh thanks so much @bej10! That’s so sweet of you to say! I decided to stop today, I wasn’t feeling great. I was hot, had tingling on and off in my fingers, and having heart palpitations. I don’t think I had enough calories and protein on my eating days. Maybe I’ll try OMAD with you next week😊

(Running from stupidity) #393

I think not eating enough calories was stuffing me up in earlier attempts, too.

(Beth) #394

@Monurse, sounds like you did the right thing by stopping. Enjoy your weekend and see you next week.

Looking forward to the weekend and enjoying a good meal tonight with my hubby. I would tell you what it is but probably not the best idea on the fasting thread . If it turns out, I’ll post it in the recipes area.

To everyone else who is still out there fasting into the weekend KCFO!

(MelissaH) #395

@bej10 PM me if you want… I’d love to hear it. You can never have too many friends😊

(MelissaH) #396

I agree! Forcing myself to eat is hard!

(Running from stupidity) #397

Seems to be giving good results so far, so I’ll keep doing it.

Also, eating good food certainly helps

(MelissaH) #398

So you eat beyond feeling full?

(Running from stupidity) #399

VERY rarely. My method is to work hard make sure I eat three meals a day when not fasting (which is currently only 1 x 36hr/week). Otherwise, I’ll smash a fat bomb if I’ve screwed up the whole food eating.

(MelissaH) #400

I’ll try that @juice, I was doing OMAD every other day.

(Running from stupidity) #401

I’d love to do that - I’m really hoping that it is in my maintenance future, but by then we may not be eating food, we may just get it all by osmosis

This morning was really difficult. I start my fast after dinner tonight, so I wanted to make sure I got plenty to eat today, but motivation RIGHT NOW was crap (the depression is being a
PITA
) and my wife is out for breakfast, so the easy option was gone  But I got it done, although it took an hour or so to get around to making it…

(MelissaH) #402

Well, it bit me in the
ass!
we’ll all get this fasting together eventually😉
