Brown up another batch of ground beef without salt and then add it to the salted batch. That should cut the salt concentration.

#162

when i was pouring the salt, the cap of the salt bottle came off and a significant portion of the entire bottle went into 200g of ground beef. i thought i got most of it off but apparently not.

(Linda ) #163

Iā€™ve done that with pepper I washed it didnā€™t helpā€¦Iā€™d probably toss it or porttion into small servings to add to ether meats

(Linda ) #164

Ohh sorry to hear that karenā€¦but seems your in the right place then ā€¦hope they can get you some good advice on what you can doā€¦

Look forward to hearing more updates on your progressā€¦

@SecondBreakfast hopefully youā€™ll join us again soon but we are here if you need the support .

2nd meal I got lazyā€¦1lb ground beef was still frozen so I added my spices sautĆ©ed it in my instapot then steamed for 10 minsā€¦because itā€™s 93 % lean I didnā€™t want to have it dry outā€¦
Result came out like a cooked brick shape meat loaf but itā€™s just ground beef but still juicy topped with a small amount sour cream etc was so filling I couldnā€™t eat it allā€¦Iā€™d def make it again like that.

#165

Air Fryer. All the crispy goodness with no oily mess. Hope you feel well soon.

@Karen18
oh darn I am so sorry it became such a bigger issue. But darn it sounds like what you did have wasnā€™t a life stealer in any way, you ā€˜sound okā€™ ya know and I hope nothing but the best from what issue you have happening and you get into good recovery form. It is great you have yourself a good team behind you. Sending great healing vibes to you and prayers you come out on top of all this!! Just keep chatting and letting us know you are ok!

@daigo1
oh I had that, the whole darn thing dumps inā€¦yea it would be add more meat and more meat til you get the better taste but once salt is in something, wow getting it out is almost impossible. In the end, I am ā€˜that typeā€™ that would rather throw out a small amt, then keep adding more to maybe have too much of a crappy thing LOL Hey, I defrosted a few nice steaks in my time to only forget them behind something in the fridge and lost them cause they went off, but yea you shoulda heard me when I had to ditch them  but it happens to all of us.

@SecondBreakfast, glad you posted. I figured you were busy as heck but even if off plan and struggling, donā€™t worry, come here and chat, we can help ya get back on track if that is what ya wanna do  We all been there. For me many times. So hang in there and keep focus on your health journey and hoping all goes well for you!!

@Shinita
ahhh you are hitting up that meat aversion time. Very normal for all of us at some point. Just ride it thru, eat whatever you can when you can and what you love and you will definitely pass this by and want your meats again

@FrankoBear, hope you are hanging in there and get your results back and then you know. Hope you are resting!!

-----------------SO MY chicken wings were great except I tried one thing that backfired.

I cooked all naked and plain but I cooked 3 of them in buffalo sauce for taste. Yikes. Can we say big heartburn instantly? Yes we can LOL I ate 2 and had to just throw the last one in the garbage. Mouth went burny also then guts. Body says NO to any type of hot sauce anymore, which is fine, I was wondering cause I used to eat tons of them, now I see just how wrong they are for me and I didnā€™t ā€˜enjoy that tasteā€™ anymore so it will be something I can leave behind in the dust. I ate 2 meals since the wings were so big and didnā€™t eat the steak, which is first meal of day and probably cook up some shrimp with it since it is a little steak.

All going very well on zero carb.

Keep on with carnivore everyone!

Ouch. Now that I am 45ā€¦ After many accidentsā€¦ I start to learn to use a little spoon and not pouring things  I always use a spoon for salt but not always for other spicesā€¦
But I understand now, itā€™s possible to epically oversalt something that way.

I forgot about adding more meat as itā€™s not among my typical options and that takes ages and I just want to eat my food when itā€™s readyā€¦ But itā€™s better to wait than throwing it outā€¦

I have no idea about my own meal yet (I am moderately sure it will be only one. I will be shopping during lunchtime) but I have turkey soup. Itā€™s very very delicious, finally! All those chicken ones were seriously lacking but this one is tasty. No idea why Alvaro dislike it without vegetables. I can enjoy vegetable flavors when I eat soup at his Mom but bony meat alone makes a nice soup if the meat is good and not the cheap common tasteless chicken.
I put 2 fatty duck necks (wonā€™t buy again) and 2 turkey necks into the small pot. One turkey neck is so thick, there will be lots of meat to enjoy! And itā€™s very different from my usual pork so hopefully my meat aversion hasnā€™t spread that far.

And I used boiled egg yolks yesterday, several whites remained so I boiled some more eggs and probably will eat deviled eggs (my deviled eggs always contains way more whites than yolks). But I donā€™t really want eggs so we will see.

Really? I thought you all love meat all the time and I am an abomination  Well, not exactly that, I have very serious vegetarian past years and I started it a bit slowly with my 0.25-0.5 pounds of meat (with the occasional way meatier days. I probably would have felt best at 0.5-1, sometimes lower but had supply problems back then)ā€¦
I still can eat a little meat and not my usual ones but porkā€¦ I suddenly donā€™t want that.
Itā€™s just a bit hard as I donā€™t want eggs either but without these two I have almost nothing (I can pull off a day with cheese and processed meat and some eggs but not several in row). Itā€™s good I can always eat a few eggs, even in my most serious egg aversion times as I have to and I always find some dish that works even if I donā€™t actually enjoy it. Boiled eggs, ew. Scrambled eggs, nope. Sponge cakes? Fine. With a little this and that.
(And if it continues, I always can eat plant protein for 1-2 days, I just usually do my best to avoid that as itā€™s never my actual desire, itā€™s just plan B. Or I can fast for some days but that comes next week and I canā€™t do that when I want anyway, my body needs to cooperate. There is a reason I had no EF since 1.5 years. No, I always can find something to eat
I still hope it goes away soon, I liked the simplicity of pork roasts. And I like pork when I donā€™t have this.

Oh spicesā€¦ I still have so. Much. Spice. And I barely use any ever. My roasts only use salt. My soup has a tiny black pepper and bay leaves nowadays but maybe the turkey soups wonā€™t need that. The chicken soups did and they still werenā€™t good.
I have especially much herbs and not even Alvaro uses them for some reason. 1-2 dishes get those but they will last forever. Oh well, I wonā€™t be very tearful if they end up in our compost.
Chili is fine, Alvaro uses it here and there.
We obviously use paprika a lot (though less than before) and we can use up curry too. Mostly Alvaro, I have little to do with that.

Poor @KetoKoala used too hot sauce and felt bad from it. Now she uses a mild one. I simply never use anything hot, I canā€™t stand it. Maybe a weeeee bit. But thatā€™s what chili is for. I donā€™t even use sauces, just spices (Alvaro uses the whole chilis in our food) or rather salt for my tasty ingredients. Itā€™s so odd to me when someone find some meat bland and add some fancy sauce to it. I understand it can be nice to change flavors, sure, I have my stews too but why donā€™t they just use a tasty meat instead of eating a bland one with sauces all the time, just to make them palatable? Is tasty meat that hard to find for them? I am lucky then.

(Karen) #168

Re burgersā€¦ exactly that xx will update on my stroke in a mo xx

(Karen) #169

Okay well not sure if this might end up a bit of a game changer but here goes.

So it was an ischaemia stroke in the cerebellar ( if thatā€™s how it is spelt lol) the part of the brain that control balance. Apparently very serious. will be on a few lifetime drugs ( which i hate the thought of)

So they tell me my blood has produced too many white blood cells which they indicated cause the clot though I have googled that and it just refers to the effect of white blood cells after a stroke.

Also my bad cholesterol was 7.0 which the doctor wasnā€™t happy about. I can honestly say I have never ever had high cholesterol and Iā€™m usually praised on how good the level is. Doctor wasnā€™t happy. I only did bloods at my gp surgery not long back and I never have it up because when I have to go in for anything else in the past I ask if there was anything to take note of and they always say no so I just assumed that no news was good news!!! Maybe a lesson to learn from that. Or perhaps everything g was fine on that test and it has changed since.

Doctor has ordered to cut down on salt but he didnā€™t ask about my woe and I didnā€™t mention it cos I didnā€™t want to be given a telling off lol. Silly bugger I know lol.

I am sure it isnā€™t this woe that has caused all this but I may have to stop frying so much and go leaner for the main bulk of my food. Perhaps I will eat alot more fish. I love fish but it doesnā€™t satisfy as much as beef.

On that note daughter brought me in some delicious beef ribs off the bone and cooked rareon her visit last night. How good is she? I finished them off about 12 midday ā€¦ half n hour ago.

Seen the ocky therapist too and now I am just waiting for the discharge papers and medications so I can go home. Probably still be here at tea time lol I know how long it can take from all the escorting of prisoners in hospital!

Hmmmm so I am not so invincible and no matter how fit and healthy you think you are things can still hit you hard. I am a firm believer though that so long as you do everything in your power to keep yourself in good condition it can only assist a quick recovery. I will take heed of the warning and be a good girl and take the medication. Looks like I will be off work for a few weeks or so ā€¦ some perks to all of this lol. Thank heavens the stroke wasnā€™t in the area that controls your sense of humour  personality still the same and still a crazy lady! Any help regarding woe and adapting will be most welcome x thank you for all your well wishes and prayers.

Noā€¦if one is on other carnivore/zero carb eating sites and puts some research into this plan (not saying you donā€™t but this just shows it is very normal process we go thru) then more info comes to you that is very normal on this plan.

Many hit that wall of I donā€™t wantā€¦it means they are becoming more nourished, their bodies are changing to the good and that meat becomes like a ā€˜I donā€™t want it, turns me offā€™ just cause the body is getting so much better insideā€¦but it will flip again and you WILL want more meat and you will be happy with your food and at that same time you really learn what meat works for you all the time and what meat/eggs or dairy etc you start to lose interest in, so you are doing great, just chill and go with the flow :slightly_smiling_face: cool

#171

WELL THAT IS GREAT and at the same time you didnā€™t get nailed into where you have no motor control or speech and all that so I think, while just devastating you got hit like this, you also in the ā€˜way of having a strokeā€™ kinda got away with that ā€˜good oneā€™ā€¦if there can be any good ones LOL See I got my humor still too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes your meds will be important as is you coming home and researching it all a bit and do for you at all times.

I so agree with your post. Something is gonna get all of us at some point, no a doubt in that statement, but I am super thrilled you are in good spirits, you are doing OK from this event and you will learn from this event to find your best way forward for sure!!!

Scary ā– ā– ā– ā–  tho Karen, I feel ya on that! I wish ya never had this happen to you but in the end I can feel your strength to carry on and get thru in best form you can!! Sending big HUGS to you!!

Just go slow, take it all in, rest and more rest and get a grip thru it and I think with what I know of you just from your posts you will truly shine thru this situation! I canā€™t see you doing anything other than that actually :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

We carnivores got your back, we are here for any chat you need and here to support you all the time! ā€¦and nah it isnā€™t this lifestyle at all, it is just time for issues for you and we are all gonna hit these issues in life, but one thing is, you keep doing best health for you and it can be a world of difference on the next longer years of our lives and you will do just that!

Def really scary I lost both my grand father and my dad to strokes so Iā€™m so pleased yours has not affected your sense of humor and your able to go home so quickly thats so good to hear.
I also agree itā€™s prob not your food and from the small amount of Google i did it appears research is pointing to ketogenic diets are looking good at healing the brain after a strokeā€¦

(Linda ) #173

I must say since changing my diet to this new plan Iā€™m feeling so much better Iā€™ve lost that constant hunger it just wasnā€™t working for me I may stick to the ground beef for 2nd meal for awhileā€¦as its def holding me over with no snackingā€¦
1st meal has been about 8.30 am after I get back from walking the dogs and then I cook my food.
2.nd meal is about 2 pmā€¦ and then Iā€™m good til next dayā€¦I cooked up the ground turkey and gave it to the dogs I just didnā€™t want it lolā€¦

Todays food I started with short ribs I could only eat one big one and the small one so the rest Iā€™ll have tomorrow.

Iā€™ve got ground beef defrosting for 2nd meal

(Edith) #174

Those short ribs look mighty tasty. I just pulled some out of my freezer to cook this weekend. How do you prepare yours?

(Karen) #175

This is what I had ā€¦ clot not bleed but mine affected both sides of cerebellar.

Absolutely in good spirits and going home today yay!
Thank you all x really love the support on here, its a bit like family xx

(Linda ) #176

I browned them in instapot normally ill slow cook them but today I was not wanting to wait so I just put them in insta pot and brazed them then steamed themā€¦ til soft

(Linda ) #177

This is what I was reading

#178

It wasnā€™t a carnivore day or very close and probably wonā€™t be until the very end of October - but the vast majority of my food still must be carnivore for me to be okay and satisfiedā€¦ So I practice carnivore while not eating fully carnivore (or even my strictly defined carnivore-ish), something like this. Itā€™s still useful. I donā€™t even PLAN not doing carnivore, it just subtly happens. Itā€™s important. If I just give up, I end up in a worse state. But I will behave in November, it will be way easier then.

I had turkey soup with some meat (meh but quite edible now, this was my only proper meat today), a few eggs in various form, cheese (we tried a new one with some black seeds we never tasted. spicy but the cheese didnā€™t need it), buttery spread with spices (I will need to make sponge cake muffins again. I canā€™t spread it on anything else. maybe if I had some lean meat or could look at boiled eggsā€¦ but itā€™s best with my sponge cakes), 2 sausages and a big slice of head cheeseā€¦ I am quite full and while my protein intake must have dropped, itā€™s surely still adequate just possibly not high. I canā€™t even guess my macros.

I think I am done with eating bigger amounts of processed meat for a while (still not very much but normally I just eat a little)ā€¦ It helped me out but it was enough. I may try to eat some pork next time but I have turkey anyway.

(Edith) #179

Congratulations on heading home! Considering you are in such good shape, I bet the health care providers were shocked that you had a stroke. Iā€™m sure your great physical fitness helped in you getting to go home so soon.

You sound like your normal self in your texts and amazingly upbeat. I am really impressed! A great model for the rest of us. Enjoy the quiet of home!

(Karen) #180

Oh lol thanks , I was reading messages from some peeps from work and my dancing friends and I got quite teary. I always get teary when people show their kindness im a real wuss though now I have an excuse because apparently when one has had a stroke one can either get uncontrollable laughter or tearsā€¦ think I would have preferred the laughter cos that the best medicine!

And I must admit I have had one or two remarks about my age and said they had to check the details over again cos they thought it was wrong. Very complimentary x
