No weight loss 😭

(Mike ) #1

Hi there, I’m after some advice.
I’m currently on my fourth time on a keto diet. The other three times where very successful. Total weight loss during these times was 56 ibs

I’ve now been low carb for 3 weeks, doing nothing different from before. I have increased energy levels, no appetite, no urge to eat anything i shouldn’t be. But my weight loss is a mere 2ibs. And that’s probably just water loss itself.

I’m eating whole food, good combinations of fats and protein. Its becoming a struggle to stay on the diet because of very slow weight loss…

Any advice…
Thanks in advance.

Do you gain weight when you go off keto?

(Mike ) #3

Not quickly. I’d say over the past year, 12 ibs gain

I don’t understand how it’s a struggle to stay on plan if you:

It sounds more like you are a bit frustrated… but you, of all people, should know that keto works since this is your 4th go at it. I would just try to make sure I am tracking my carbs to make sure I am not eating more of them than I should, remain calm and keep reminding myself that life is so much easier now that I am eating well again.

I think I’m focusing to much of the weight loss (which is the main thing admittedly) the other positive points are just about keeping me on the right path.

The other three times, it was so easy, and weight whistled off me. But this time, it’s testing

What’s the rush??? Plan on quitting again after you lose 10lbs?

Change your mindset, and you’ll see positive results. Diets don’t work… It’s all about lifestyle changes. Make it happen.
Good luck.

If you’re lost 56 lbs how much do you have left to lose. If it’s only 10-12 lbs it’s going to be slow.

We would be able to help you much more if you told us more about yourself. Age, weight, how much you want to lose, how old were you when you lost weight the last three times, and most importantly, what exactly you are eating right now.

When people are younger they do not have the same level of metabolic derangement from a lifetime of carb consumption and high insulin that they do when they are older. I never even needed to diet when I was younger, the weight would just melt off as soon as I put down the cookies for of couple of weeks. But that just stopped dead in my forties and worsened even more over the next ten years.

This is why it’s very important to make this a way of living once you get to your goal weight and not just a diet that you can repeat. It will get harder EVERY time because when you eat the SAD diet you are making yourself sicker and sicker.

For this reason keto is different for everyone. You may have to be much stricter this time then you were on previous occasions. So tell us what you are eating and maybe we can help guide you. Are you counting your carbs? Are you definitely getting less than 20 grams?

Therein is your problem… you are treating it as a weight loss diet rather than a new eating pattern.
I had been stalled for 18 months until November last year… did I give up hell no…KCKO and lo and behold with a bit of fasting and some carnivore days 12 pounds down over the Christmas/New Year period. It took you a year to put on the 12 pounds after coming off keto last time why should your body drop those pounds faster now?

(Scott) #10

I started keto in July and rapidly lost 20 pounds and have maintained at my current weight since November. Weight loss was not the exclusive reason behind me choosing this WOE so this does not stress me at all. I am only about 10 pounds from a healthy weight and I can tweak that last ten if I so choose at any time. OP, how close to your goal are you? You may be at a similar stall point as I am.

Did you find carnivore days worked like a partial fast day?

(bulkbiker) #12

Initially yes I lost about a pound per day for the first week then stopped losing and put a bit back on again. When I’m fasting I tend to lose 1-2 pounds per day but then regain once I re-feed . I’m hoping by losing while still eating it might stay off a bit longer. At the moment I’m down about 7 pounds in total since Jan 01. Eating beef only and drinking tea and coffee with cream. My only falter was a bag of salted macadamia nuts on my birthday. Missing bacon a lot though…

(Full Metal KETO AF) #13

@MarkGossage Why not eat bacon? Why only beef?

(bulkbiker) #14

Just an experiment for January… I’m about 95% carnivore usually…

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #15

Are you only 12 pounds above your goal? Because if you are, then they will come off slowly. Even the people with tremendous fast losses slowed down once they got close to their healthy weight. So if you got to that weight before, and only gained 12 pounds back, they are going to take some time. Be sure to give your body plenty of calories and keep your protein up, so as to preserve your muscle, bone, and organ weight.

Always remember how much better you feel when you stop eating garbage

Age 47,weight 13 stone, 5ft 10.
I’m aiming to loose 16 ibs

When I’m on keto, I’m very focused regarding sticking to what i can and can’t eat. I don’t even use net carbs, just total carbs, and definitely below 20 gram per day.

I don’t normally calorie count, but have been, since weight loss isn’t happening. I’m averaging around 1700 per day.

I’m eating a good balance of fats and protein, which includes, chicken, beef, pork, turkey, eggs, some fish, full fat cheese, mayo and butter. Chestnut mushrooms, kale, Spinach and avocado and limited nuts…

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement everyone

I hear yah, it can be discouraging - but we have to realise some times we lose fat quickly - other times the body is adapting and making other changes which may not show up on the scales.

We have to be prepared for weeks like that, it’s just how it goes. Everyone’s fat loss curve is jiggly, nobody has a straight line straight to the target weight, right.

And apparently we all have yeast inside us, some more than others, if it’s a yiest overgrowth then it can hinder weight loss. But that stuff feeds on sugar - so a good way to get rid of it is to stay keto and starve it down to size.

If you’re on any medication (I am not suggesting you stop) but they can definitely affect the situation.

Hmm, that is well and truly below the red line (good) - that’s OK for the early days - but in the long run it’s a good idea to explore interesting foods a bit more. Keto is not about self torture. The text book limits are 50g Total Carbs or 20g Net Carbs. I find those extra few g’s open up some nice options, like certain berries, fruits and what not … A welcome break from bacon and eggs (blasphemy I know but…)

Hang in there.
