MCT Oil

(Consensus is Politics) #21

Thanks for the clarification. I assumed that’s what you meant. So I would be experimenting with it to see what happens.

Do you use a blender or mixer of some kind? Or does a fork do ok? I’ve been able to emulsify my coconut oil and butter in my coffee with a fork. It just takes a few minutes.

A hand mixer is what I currently use, but a blender would do the job all the same. Adding an egg is not my favorite way to body up my coffee, which is why I am a huge advocate for the MCT oil powder. Coconut oil powder is also very good.

Gallbladder flares. Then it goes away. The location you described is where the gallbladder is. And I’ve had mine removed so I’m familiar with what you experienced.

Hi Joe,

Perhaps you could pasteurize your eggs in a sous vide before adding to your coffee. Are you concerned about the risk of eating raw egg?

Keto for Life,
Richard

(Joe Schuyler) #25

No, eating raw egg is no issue. I just don’t feel like doing it due to inconvenience. Slightly cooking the egg before adding to the coffee would just add another step to the process.

I also don’t have a sous vide. Should you try it, please let me know how it goes!

I found gastric issues with MCT but solved them by taking a tablespoon of psyllium husks in water before any MCT. Seems to last all day, even though I take some MCT hours after the psyllium.

Last night i have had sharp pain on left hand side under my ribs, only last a couple of seconds but comes and goes.

I have not had MCT oil but have not drunk loads.

The pain is with me now on and off for a few seconds, so I am trying to drink loads of water.

Maybe it is dehydration?

This here sounds more like…

(Frank) #29

Thanks I have increased my water intake and that seems to be working.

Excellent observations Joe, your use of creative MCT “binders” are spot on. I discovered the use of high quality MCT’s 30 years ago before they became Keto-mainstream when I was a top ranked competitive, all-natural bodybuilder in my younger days. Folks have very different gut reactions to the MCT’s, particularly if their activity levels are not high enough to successfully use this high potency fuel. Any “overages” of MCT’s in the gut that are not metabolized as fuel, can quickly transform one into an effective, yet painful “salad shooter”. I find now that coconut oil works just fine for my needs. Nice job on your binders!

Yeah MCT did my head in. week 4 I felt so tired, though it’s electrolytes and just upped MCT during day. Would do BPC and 60g of MCT to have more energy. It was opposite… 2 days no MCT or coconut oil and all is ok.

Thanks!

Call me lucky, I have 4-5 tbsp of mct throughout the day without a problem. Fat shots with heavy cream, in protein drinks, eggs… just about everywhere.

I know exactly what you felt, it has happened to also a few times, when I first started keto back in June and used Brain Octane from bulletproof, then I hadn’t used it in a few months and used it again this morning in my coffee and within a very short period of time, I had the worst stomache pain. It was so bad, I thought about going to the hospital, but I could hardly move it was so severe. This morning I forced myself to drink some almond milk and take a couple heaping spoons of triple zero chobani yogurt and laid down, only about 10mins later I felt normal again. Anyhow it seems to only happen on an empty stomache for me, so not sure why you suffered at night…

:scream: SO THATS WHATS BEEN HAPPENING?!?!

Talking around the subject. I figured an excess amount of oil can act like a lubricant, but never considered it to make things work like it had 100 psi behind it. Its begining to make sense now. I had been explerimenting with the amount of coconut oil per day. I did notice when i dropped the amount lower, my weight would drop a bit. And looking back at the weeks with the higher amount… well, as i said, that explains it.

That sounds an awful lot like low electrolytes to me. I woke with a kink in my neck one morning so bad I couldn’t turn my head to the right at all. Was like that all day long, i was getting worried. Then i remembered electrolytes, had a teaspoon of salt in a half liter bottle of water. Drank it slowly over about 10 minutes, and the kink faded away. I could actually feel the muscle relax. Since then i make sure to take a lot more salt.

I was taking so much salt, I was worried i might hurt myself not knowing what my sodium levels actually were. That same week I had a follow up at the VA. I asked my PC doc if i could get a full panel done, as I would like to see how my new way of eatingbwas effecting everything. I knew he would agree to that just to get me to shut up about curing my diabetes, and my cholesterol improvment WITHOUT meds, i refused to take them.

And everything in the labs on my blood and urine were in normal range. And all my electrolytes were smack dab in the middle of normal range.

There’s another thread today about MCT oil and upset belly …

I have cream with my coffee (2 oz give me 200 Cals energy). Works for me.

I wonder if its the individual or how fat adapted u are or something else. Some seem to have no problems at all and for some its like poison.

(Emma Harrison) #39

Defo our in a blender… adding egg makes you a latte! It’s good :+1:

If its sharp burning pain also ulcer might be the culprit. You have to go and get it checked out.
It can also be gallbladder, gallstones, tumors(blocking it).

MCT acts as a laxative in most cases, but should not trigger severe pain.
