My first thought was dairy as a possible culprit. I think you’re wise to do a trial elimination and see if things change.
As for documentation of food, I do think it’s important to be anal about it. If things are going smoothly without documentinf everyrhing there may be no need to but in your case things are not going the way you want them to so I do think it’s critical that you keep track. Really no different than what advice you’d give your patient right? You already document everything at work and know all the logical reasons why. Apply the same logic to yourself. good luck and report back please if dairy turns out to be the culprit.
May 2018 IF/EF chat - all welcome
Well it’s 5:15pm local time & I feel fine so I’m skipping dinner though I always cook for my husband. I find I miss the ritual if I don’t make dinner. It doesn’t bother me to do that while fasting. I’ll break tomorrow afternoon somewhere around 90+ hours. I don’t feel as spacy as I did yesterday so that’s good.
It’s been awhile since I’ve felt up to a fast this long so I’m pleased. For me these hours between dinner time & bedtime are the toughest! Hope I can stay distracted & get through without too much discomfort. Once I wake up in the morning it’s smooth sailing into the afternoon.
What app is that? I don’t have any kind of stats or anything; just a counter.
Will do.
I have stopped all dairy except for butter- is that okay? I just don’t know how to have my coffee without somethign creamy. Any suggestions on a BPC that is dairy free?
I am currently on hour 39 of a fast which I want to continue until Saturday morning or afternoon. I am hoping life doesn’t get in the way as is usually what happens.
I’m the same with coffee; need creamer and some sort of sweetener. …at least stevia. Going to try giving up coffee for a week in addition to having been upping my cals and fat the last few days and see if that changes anything for my stall. It will be hard to give up coffee though seeing as how I work at a coffee shop lol.
Butter still has a bit of lactose in it, but not much. If you want to go ABSOLUTELY dairy-free, then use ghee. That’s just clarified butter. Personally, I think coffee with butter and/or coconut oil is just as creamy as with cream - if you hit it with a stick blender to emulsify the fat. I even got a tiny little gizmo made by Norpro that was only $10US, to use in my travel mug. I don’t remember what they called it, but if you look for a “milk frothier” you should see it. Battery operated with 4 attachments. It’s not good for much else, but I think you could do a personal serving of whipped cream with it.
Managed 48 hours, that’s a first for me! Had a cycle ride yesterday & a short rebound session today, managed okay. Eaten well now, & will then (hopefully) fast again now until Friday evening so another 48 hours. We’re away for the weekend then, yay!
Hope everyone else is staying strong!
Green tea - it’s super good for you and it’ll help keep you from going into caffeine withdrawal (has just enough to string you along until your next cup of Joe)
Just started another fast…at about 21 1/2 hours so far. We’ll see how long I can stretch this one.
Edit: Huh…maybe I have the timing messed up (don’t think I’ve been supplementing enough) Started my fast at 5:30pm ET on Tuesday…just so it’s straight.
Please keep us updated, if IDM thinks it is a good idea, and if so, if it works for you.
All the best.
Those are milk frothers. Google has a lot of them, I got one and don’t know how I drank coffee without one before. :). Mine is a Bean Envy, was $15, it has a nice holder so it can stand by the coffeemaker.
It is very handy for making whipped cream quickly without getting the bigger mixer out of the cupboard when you want to add some whipped cream to berries.
I did a 46 hr. fast that I originally thought should be about 36 hrs. just wasn’t hungry enough to eat before the 46th hr.
I am pretty much doing mixes of 36-48 hr. fasts weekly, I also do IFing at least 4 days a week and some weeks up to 6. DH does like to go out in good weather and have breakfasts, but he always wants me to come along, so this pattern is working ok for me. Although sometimes, I just order a coffee with whipped cream on the side if I really don’t feel like anything else. So I chit chat with him over my coffee while he eats breakfast. It is all good.
You can make something that looks like a latte with an immersion blender, mine is Kitchenaid, and a tablespoon of coconut oil. It’s wild! I have even done it with MCT which means I can ice it. I can’t stand black coffee & I used to use a ton of cream but this has been working great in 16 oz of coffee.
Milk frothers and immersion blenders - does the effect last, i.e. do things not settle back out after a while?
92 hours woot! Down to 157.8 lbs but I know I don’t get to keep it still great to see a new low on the scale.
Trying the psyllium to break my fast. I have a history of disaster pants when I break fast, no matter how gently I try to reintroduce foods.
Maybe my frother was lame but it didn’t work great for me. The immersion blender work holds up pretty well!!
