So here’s the update: my IDM coach said it’s perfectly fine to do OMAD as a part of a fasting plan, they just don’t recommend it as a routine because it stalls weight loss for lots of folks.
Also, she said almost exactly what @LizinLowell said about cutting the fat: not at this stage of my weight loss journey on my eating days She advised me to keep fat to satiety as my mantra on eating days. However, on fasting days, yes - then I should try to reduce use of “crutches” like BPC and avocados when I feel I can. And I have! Down to just my am BPC and nothing else but salt and electrolytes all this week.
At hour 28 of my second 42-46 hr fast now and feeling great. May push through to Friday if all goes well tomorrow. Thanks for the advice and encouragement, everyone.
Just started putting mine in the blender instead of using a frother and it is SO much creamier now that I’m off the HWC!
Starting with keto about 3 months ago I had 10-15 pounds to lose to be “ideal” weight, 150 pounds, 5’9’. That’s done. For the past 5 weeks I do 16:8, skipping breakfast Monday -Friday work days. Then I don’t eat anything on Saturday, a half work day. Sunday is an early breakfast and early dinner then it all gets repeated the next week. Usually, but not always, I feel some late morning hunger for a couple hours on 16:8 days. For some reason hunger is less noticable on Saturdays and if I go for a motorcycle ride I don’t feel any hunger when the bike is moving. Since starting keto I have a perfect record of no snacks, I only eat at meal time.
I also do exercise and extended walking which I believe is making the above easier. It is said that exercise doesn’t help with fat loss. That’s not my experience. My exercise plus walking is 30% of daily calories burned, 500-600 calories per day. When I eat those calories meals are a lot more satiating. I’m hungry when I eat and full for hours after that. Putting up wiith a couple of hours of hunger in the morning and doing the exercise are well worth it at meal time.
One way to look at this is I eat 12 times per week. That is often enough for the rest of my life.
Argh I’m only 15 hours in and feeling cold and hungry… work is boring and I’m stuck at my desk which won’t be helping. Gonna go get me some hot water to drink…
Hope everyone is doing well. Broke my fast last Sunday May 5th. I was supposed to do a quick turn around and begin fasting again on Monday BUT, I forgot that a very lovely man was buying me lunch on Monday. So I ate. What was I supposed to do? Squander the opportunity to hold the company of a gorgeous man? Of course not, Dr. Fung would not approve of that. LOL!
And then Tuesday, I was just hungry, so I ate within a 20/4 window. Yesterday, I did another 20/4 window but I think some bad carbs snuck in. Went out to dinner with my little one and THOUGHT I was getting a really nice keto meal, but I could taste some sweetness in the sauce. Woke up this morning with a headache, out of ketosis, slightly achy, bloated and up 3 pounds. So clearly, it was carby. Jumping right back into my EF using my fat as a crutch. Will probably EF until Mother’s day. How is everyone else doing?
Last night, at hour 46 I almost cracked! I had a small headache and I was cold. I persevered though by sitting on the sofa, drinking water with a bit of lemon juice, pink salt and potassium chloride. Also, enjoying the company of my two cats. After that, the headache subsided and I performed light jogging and light bouncing on my rebounder. I believe that I am in hour 60 now - still going!
At hour 36, confident about going to 48. Fat fasting with broth and HWC. I feel so good when I’m fasting that it almost makes me sad to think about eating tonight. Not sure I want to try a Friday (stressful, full day) fasting or try breaking the fast somewhere other than home. Going to son and dil’s house for Mothers Day. Today is weigh in day. My medical colleagues are watching the weekly weigh ins and I’m feeling a need to prove something to the naysayers.
I’m only at 18 hours which is nothing for me, no more than a regular daily IF, but am struggling so just made a coffee with heavy cream.
I am kinda stressed at the moment which is showing with my resting heart rate increasing by 7 points (as measured by fitbit). This I’m sure won’t be helping
Those are typical times that I have to take my mind off of things and do a short 15min workout
It wouldn’t be so bad if work was busy but today it’s quiet… I’ll try to find me something to do…
I think the psyllium saved me on refeed! I had a tbs in a full glass (16oz) of water, then another full glass of water right after. No disaster pants lol. I managed to eat over 2,000 keto calories in a 2 1/2 hour window and I felt great. The feeling I get when I eat is contentment. When I don’t eat I feel fine but i don’t get that contented feeling. It’s really nice and a great reward for fasting. Today the scale registered 159! That’s two days in the 150s which is a new personal record. Even if it creeps back up from here at least I have that.
Yea, for breaking that decade marker. Two days is a good sign something good has occurred.
Hope you can find something to do to take your mind off fasting… weird how some fasts can just be harder! Stay strong!
