Strict. I don’t think lazy would work for me. How about you?
Looking for keto pals also a month in
I’m doing strict keto too. I’m weighing everything out, counting macros, etc. I’m two weeks in and I’ve lost about 12 lbs. I’ve got about 20 more too lose. Are you going keto for weight loss/ maintenance?
I’m in my 4th week and am down 12.5 lbs now. But the best news is that both my BS and BP have come down; I have been reducing my Lantus (insulin) 5 units about every 4-5 days. I have a lot more energy than I did pre-keto; actually I had no energy pre-keto, so this is a big improvement. I’m also sleeping a lot better. I’m doing fairly strict keto, and therefore have to watch my BS closely, or I end up w/ hypoglycemia. The lower BS scores are very motivating for me to keep going.
I have about 14lb to lose (haven’t weighed for a few weeks, I HATE weighing), so I have my fingers crossed I might have lost a few lb since then.
Before doing keto I used to follow the 5:2 way of eating (where you fast for two days and eat normally, but sensibly, for five days), so I’ve been incorporating that back into my lifestyle this week. On my eating week days I follow intermittent fasting where aside from coffee I don’t eat until six - I naturally don’t like eating in the day so I’d not a struggle for me.
Hi Ann, it sounds like you’re having great results. I’m still waiting for the energy boost unfortunately, I seem to be one of the people who take a long time to adapt. I had a ‘nap’ last night that ended up being 13 hours. I didn’t sleep well the two nights before though, so that might be why. It’s not unusual for me to feel like dragging myself up the stairs in the evening is a challenge.
I don’t know a lot about blood sugar other than what I see on keto videos on youtube, but it’s great that you can actually see the effect it’s having on you.
I was experiencing bad leg (thigh) cramps and headaches during my forest 2 weeks. One night at work I just couldn’t get comfortable due to my leg cramps and a pounding headache and had nothing available to help with electrolytes so I poured some salt in water and drank it. Within 30 minutes my camps and headache were completely gone. I’ve also drank bone broth and pickle juice. The pickle juice worked just as well as the salt water. The bone broth didn’t seem to prove as much relief but did help a bit.
Thanks! I actually had a hypo episode yesterday afternoon, BS was in the low 60s. I did w/o my pm glipizide & cut my am glip dose in 1/2, plus reduced my Lantus by another 5 units this morning, and my BS today have all been in the low 100s. I think I will be off the glip & the Lantus sooner than I though! Which is a GOOD thing!
And yes, I have noticed improved mental clarity, especially this week. I had a few phone interviews (job) this week, and I was SHARP!
Good work! Muscle cramps and aches, and headaches are usually caused by depleted electrolytes, so drinking pickle juice and salt water is a great way to deal w/ it.
Yes, just recently! But the past 4 days haven’t been good mentally or physically.
What I’ll say about the mental clarity for me is it’s a quickness. I remember things better, words come faster, I feel more creative. But it also makes me a wee bit hyper, so I’ve noticed I’m clumsier. I knock things down, drop things, because I’m not used to this faster pace. I misgauge time and space.
Overall, it’s fantastic. I just need to eat really carefully this weekend so I can be back in the sweet spot by Sunday or Monday.
I think I’m on my 3rd keto book, listening to keto podcasts during the work commute, and have spent in a bunch of time researching recipes for the last month… so yeah, I can relate. My wife is enjoying the obsession because I’ve taken over meal planning and cooking family dinners.
It sounds great, I definitely don’t have those benefits yet, I hope they kick in soon.
Funny that these past few replies were about losing work productivity due to being distracted by keto books and podcasts. Despite those obsessions, I got more done at work the past couple months than ever before.
I think I didn’t fully appreciate how “in” keto I was until I had my carb fiasco yesterday. Not a binge, more like a holiday meal or something. It knocked me off my feet. I fell asleep at 7 p.m. So happy I have the weekend to recalibrate.
I know one of the signs you’re adapted is how quickly it takes to bounce back into ketosis, did it take you long to get back to normal?
I just reached the 100 day mark. Stick with it. I’m feeling better and energy levels are getting better everyday.
After a month of little weight loss, I felt my body become more fat adapted and I’ve lost 25 lbs.
We’re out here!
Thank you Scott, it’s always great to have the assurance that it will happen! Did it only take a month for you to feel like you were adapted?
Started producing ketones after about 30 days but 45 days before I started to fat adapt. That is when I started losing weight, started to fell energy increasing and appetite started decreasing.
I am… dare I say it… feeling sharp this afternoon. I’m working my way through a course on scientific notation, maths is far from my strong point, usually my eyes glaze over, but this afternoon it’s actually making sense. Fingers crossed it’s the start of being adapted.
Yay! That is great I have finally started to wake up awake (that is huge cause I am not a morning person) NSVs
