Thank you very much for your input. Thankfully, I am not experiencing any negative side effects just slow weight loss. I am going to stick with it, I have to trust in the system.
Looking for keto pals also a month in
I lost 8 lbs my first week and have not lost any since. I am constantly reading fb posts, websites, forums and talking with family and friends who have been on keto for some time and I guess my expectations were higher. I know I have to trust in what I’m doing and be patient. I just wanted to talk to others in the same boat as me. Its really hard to decipher the facts between all the different advice people are graciously wanting to give.
Ha, turns out we’re pretty much exactly the same! I lost 7lb in my first week.
I was happy with that as a start, but then it started to creep back on, no idea how - I thought it would be a steady loss if you were doing things right, but apparently not. I’m playing about with my macros now to see if it helps. It’s definitely frustrating, and easy to start wondering whether it’s really for you or not… people assure you things will happen, but there’s no way of knowing until it happens to you. It is pretty tough trying to believe it’ll happen when so far there are no clear signs!
@DKam, I am also a type 2 DM, and have been keto/LCHF for 3 weeks now. My initial BS was over 200, and it has been dropping ever since. I have lost 10+ lbs, and I’m averaging BS below 120 every time I measure. I have been able to reduce my insulin by 15 units/day so far and hope to eventually stop using it. I know I have a long way to go, but what I’m seeing so far is great! And it is very encouraging to hear from other diabetics who are finding success w/ keto.
@jconrad76, perhaps look at things other than weight loss. It can take time for your body to make the changes.
–How is your energy level?
–Have your sleeping patterns changed for the better?
–How is your skin? Fewer breakouts?
–Have you lost inches, despite not losing more weight? Clothes fitting more loosely?
Best of luck!
Librarian weighing in here… Yes, there is such a thing as information overload or information anxiety if you will. On topics such as Keto, there are many experts, many opinions and it can overwhelm to be sure.
Hello! Can I jump in? I’ve been playing with keto since end of May, but I had back to back vacations and did not officially start hardcore keto until end of June. I’m 4 weeks and 1 day in and down 14.5 lbs.
I have at least 145 more to lose, but I’m feeling optimistic.
Certainly, we’re not too strict about the time! 14.5 in a month sounds you’re off to a brilliant start.
Talia,
OMG yes! I have only been doing this for about 10 days now & have spent so much time doing research & looking up recipes! Glad I’m not the only one.
Hi everyone!
Well I am less than 1 month in, only about 10 days. I have no idea if I’ve lost any weight, b/c well, I don’t own a scale & I never will. I am never hungry though, and so far I feel great. I did order some ketone urine testing strips to see where my Ketone levels were at. I know, I know, they aren’t perfectly accurate, but they do give me an idea.
I was really intrigued to here people are not eating 3 times a day. I mean my breakfast is fatty coffe, but it never dawned on me to eat a big lunch, & not eat dinner. I’ve been struggling with going over my protein intake. I have 2 teenage boys at home every night, & occasionally my husband (firefighter). I think there would be a riot if I didn’t make dinner. I tend to use left overs for my lunch at work, so I guess I could just not eat dinner, or eat very little. Any thoughts on this?
Welcome and congratulations on getting through [what is usually] the worst of the transition! For me, cutting down to one “real” meal was so helpful for not going over my protein. Before keto, I was doing body builder type macros, lol, protein was way over 100 grams. Now that I only do 1 formal meal, I never go over. Today I had a giant (6 oz?) serving of stewed chicken for lunch and don’t have to worry about it or feel deprived.
I’ve heard some good arguments for splitting up protein, though. I think the most important things are to keep things simple and not feel deprived. If I had a family, I’d probably be eating dinner.
I eat dinner but not breakfast or lunch. I do have a coffee with cream when I get into the office but I don’t really eat until 6/7pm. I’ve always been an evening eater though, it’s just a case of finding what works with your body clock I think.
When my husband is home I usually eat 2 meals a day - lunch and dinner - and that is only because that is what he does. When he is at work I am more of a one a day meal type - breakfast is a cup of coffee w/ heavy cream or ghee and maybe a dash of Torani SF, cause S’more coffee is like heaven is a mug to me, but then I don’t usually eat until the evening when he gets home and we have dinner. If I get to feeling hungry (as in my tummy is growling) I will have a little cheese and summer sausage, or a deviled egg with some cheese or bacon, or if I am in a rush I will pop a fat bomb and keep going. Dinner is usually my biggest meal - about 2oz of meat, some roasted veggies, or a salad …
At first I stressed hard about what to make for meals, and balancing the numbers and all that stuff… but, after a few weeks your body starts to adjust and you will find it gets easier to find something you enjoy eating, and that meets all your macros just keep at it!
I’m bout 3 months in, but haven’t been strict the whole time. Went off for vacation two weeks ago and the month leading up to it I allowed one dirty carb meal each week. If I qualify feel free to add me to your group.
Lol it works out pretty well for me, a I’m a truck driver so I have all the time in the world to listen to podcasts while driving
I’m on the road all the time do mostly I eat, 2 eggs and about 10-12 oz ribeye for breakfast, then my second meal I’ll have 4-5 slices of bacon then use the grease to stir fry veggies. Or I’ll swap this out for a sort of taco salad, just don’t use taco seasoning from store as it’s fairly high in carbs. If I need more of a snack I’ll eat a few pecans or pork rinds
