So… How good REALLY is Keto Ice Cream? I mean obviously I’m not gonna eat if every day. But now that these brands like Enlightened and Rebel are offering it… By the numbers it’s only a few net carbs for a serving. But is there a catch? Because honestly I think this stuff is amazing… I would literally have no craving ever for real ice cream if this stuff is ok…
Keto Ice Cream - what's the catch?
Manufactured foods often contain more carbs than the label reflects because of the portion sizes or way of looking at carb content. It’s complex. I like to make my own, simple and delicious for an occasional dessert. You don’t need an ice cream churn either. And you know exactly what you’re using for accuracy in carb counting. It’s also a lot cheaper
Ha! I don’t know. Probably not. BUT, I’ve been getting constant Rebel ads on Facebook. Proof that marketing works, I went to three grocery stores on Saturday looking for it: HyVee, Walmart and Aldi. No luck for me. Now that you say it’s amazing, I want it even more. Sigh.
I make a shake-like dessert sometimes with about 6 ounces of protein shake, ice, 1/8 C heaving whipping cream, vanilla extract and cocoa powder. It’s delicious and very inexpensive. Not carby, but I know some won’t touch a protein drink with a 10-foot poll. (I use preimere protein.)
I might have to try making that, but I am very very lazy haha. That being said the peanut butter fudge flavor the rebel keto ice cream is honestly better than I remember regular ice cream tasting haha.
I feel like if my carb numbers are where they should be… I should be good (after all I don’t question it when I eat steak and bacon). But it just seems too good to be true in this case.
I know Raley’s carries it. You’d have to look at the Rebel website to see which stores are carrying it. I know Walmart isn’t one one them.
I found Rebel at Whole Foods. Albertsons has another Keto Ice Cream Brand (forget the name) and the new Enlightened Bars which just came out (bought a box this morning)
hahaha and that’s the thing, i have surprisingly good self control… so if i can handle just having ONE serving… and not even every day… and it won’t sabotage my diet? pssssshhhh i’m in heaven.

so if i can handle just having ONE serving… and not even every day
When you registered for this forum, didn’t you have to check the “I am Not a Robot” box? Because what you typed above is what a robot/machine would say, not a human.
I’m biased as I feel I’ve perfected keto icecream at this point, I agree, better than the “real” stuff. The only drawback for me was since it’s basically all fat it’s insanely calorie dense, eat a couple scoops of it on a regular basis and weight loss becomes very hard, I stalled myself out constantly when I was making it all the time. I don’t have a lot of self control when it comes to icecream, I don’t binge but I gotta have 3-4 scoops when I eat it.
I just bought some Rebel ice cream. Butter pecan, my favorite. The texture is sort of “crumbly” but the flavor is fine. It is definitely not as smooth as the real stuff. A lot lower carbs no matter how you calculate for the erythritol.
Simultaneously my wife bought some Solo brand. About the same total carbs but much nicer mouth feel. More net carbs though.

I don’t have a lot of self control when it comes to icecream
Ok, good, there’s at least one human in this thread @JDave!
My Hyvee carries Sola ice cream. I bought a pint of the salted caramel flavor fully intending to exercise self-control and make it last several days. Ha! That pint was gone by midnight.

But is there a catch?
Well, for me there’s bloating and a LOT of (mint chip smelling) wind!
Would you be willing to give us the recipe, please? that looks very delicious…=). Could I make it without sweeteners, I do not eat them. Thank you.
When it comes to non-real non-whole foods - yes. Rebel Ice Cream wants you to believe that each vanilla pint is 6 net carbs - so 3 pints a day would leave you under 20 (net) grams of carbs. A person with a history of dieting and willing to bend numbers any way a marketer can make them believe could think that 3 meals a day of a pint of this ice cream and a Ribeye covered in butter is “Keto”. But the label shows 10 grams of carbs per serving and 2 grams of fiber so the “count total carbs” numb…
I got a case of Rebel Creamery Mint Chocolate Chip last year.
One catch is that it’s very hard out of the freezer, and when fully frozen is a bit like that dehydrated ice cream that astronauts supposedly eat. So they recommend letting it sit at room temp for 15 minutes. I found half an hour produced a superior result. Maybe my room isn’t the right temp.
Any rate, by the time it’s ready, my satiation has generally kicked in and I don’t want it anymore. As a hard core ice cream lover, this was a novel feeling in my experience.
The case of 6 pints, shared with the wife… lasted about 3 months. I probably ate four of the pints at about 10 sittings.
It’s not quite as richly flavored as the premium ice cream. It is pumped with air to reduce the hardness and likely the calories. But it’s pretty good and not too bad for control due to the defrost or astronaut issue. Your mileage may vary.
