Kale chips…
Buy organic fresh kale, the thick lacy kind is best…
Wash em, dry em good, tear em off stems into bite-size pieces, massage olive oil in each , lay seperated on cookie sheet, bake at 350 degrees for 13 to 17 minutes, (keep an eye out, so they dont get burnt black)…then salt and season.

I tried some Veggie Kale chips and the taste reminded me of fish pellets… I gave a piece to my dog and she promptly spit it out and gave me a dirty look over her shoulder as she walked away. :stuck_out_tongue:

maybe Try making some of your own so you can control the spices, however everybody’s taste buds are different!
Personally I love them and I put some garlic powder on them.
I make my own because at the grocery store they are so expensive.
I’m one of those people that loves those crunchy seaweed sheets with salt on them as well so I guess everybody’s different.

If you like those seaweed sheets, that’s pretty good. They tasted too fishy to me. But I used to eat rice cakes, which were like eating cardboard. You can learn to like anything, I think.

I really like seaweed, oiled with sesame oil, salted and light toasted over an open flame. I would eat this with rice, to excess, but now I can’t think of anyway to keep it keto.

#6

& they are not keto? The only ones I can’t buy are when they have sugar in them.

Do these taste the same as seaweed?
I don’t get the point of Kale Chips.
I’ve never even tried Kale but this has piqued my interest.

Kelp aka seaweed is very keto. It’s just when you stuff them rice that it becomes not keto.

It’s pretty inexpensive around here but I’ve never tried it either. I’ve seen it used as a garnish and it seemed a tad bitter and not like something that you would intentionally eat. But I imagine if you saute it in some bacon grease it might be worth eating. It’s packed with Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

I might actually try to make chips out of them in the oven. It seems relatively easy and not a very costly experiment.

Might give it a go for something different.
Pre-Keto I was very hesitant to try new foods but I seem to be experimenting a lot more now.

I don’t mind them at all - Cavolo Nero grows like a weed in our veg patch & it works a treat for the crispy kale recipes. I don’t make it often though - mainly because I couldn’t be
arsed
It’s OK, but nothing special.

#13

i like the sheets plain!
But if I ate all I wanted of them I would be in the poor house

#14

yes, This picture pretty much looks exactly how they turn out!

#15

I will always love some sort of chips I even eat the pork rinds now! there’s a really good brand that has a bit of a barbecue that has no sugar.
I get it at Safeway the brand is Epic

#16

Any other crunchy chip ideas out there?

(Running from stupidity) #17

This makes no sense, given how I keep hearing what a restrictive diet keto is.

(Carl Keller) #18

For me it seems like quitting sugar and typical carbs has re-awakened my taste buds. I used to hate mushrooms and artichokes but now I actually look forward to eating them. Reminds me… I should retry liver again.

Have you tried the cheese crisps? Plenty of recipes for those floating around

The only kale recipe I like is one made in an instant pot by nom nom Paleo, because it makes the super tough kale parts actually edible.

This is what I’ve asked for, for Christmas:

But my wife particularly misses crunchy and salty, so this might be appropriate for her.
