JANUARY 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

(Jane) #141

73 hours in so less than 24 hours to reach my goal of 96 hours. I’ll break it tomorrow at lunch before I get on the road for my 7 hour drive home. Still on cruise control and finally warmed up.

First time I’ve had my Keto Mojo for an EF and the data has been fun! I was a little :scream: at my numbers today at lunch.

BG: 52
BK: 7.6
GKI: 0.38

Now THAT is motivation to not break my fast any earlier than planned!

Hi all!
Hope you guys don’t mind me jumping in on this thread a little late in the month. Currently in hour 20 of my very first fast. Aiming for 24 (just a little baby fast to get my feet wet). I posted a little about it in my accountability thread but here seemed a good place to swap over to. No real hunger other than clock hunger so far.
I decided to try out fasting when I realized that I was often eating because it was “time to eat”. I figured the hardest part would be mental not really hunger but in reality this has been even easier than I thought it would be. If I am still feeling this good at the 24 hour mark I will probably push it longer just to see what happens.

Welcome to the world of Fasting and the Fasting Sub-Forum!

And no, nobody will mind and you aren’t really late anyways.

We were purposefully misled into eating 3 meals a day, for marketing and profitability considerations.

And 24 hours is a GREAT fast to start out on. Fasting is very like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Congrats!
Stan

Congrats on your first fast! The mental is at LEAST 75% of the challenge. And everyone has different triggers. We ask for people to blur any mention of food on fasting threads and sometimes people forget when they talk about what they are going to break their fast with. It bothers some a lot - others not at all.

I don’t mind the mention of food or pictures of food - in fact, the food porn thread is my favorite one when I am fasting! I look forward to all the delicious things I am going to have once I break my fast.

Now the smell of food… that is torture to me. I left the office today so I didn’t have to smell the lunches being heated up and brought back a bunch of spices and as I was putting them in my backpack I caught a whiff of one of the
chilies
and groaned… it smelled so GOOD!

This thread runs all month for people to jump on and off as they are fasting to find support from others who happen to be fasting at the same time, so you are not late!!!

Next week someone will start another thread for February :slightly_smiling_face:

In hour 20 of a 116 hour fast. Longest I’ve ever made it is to 96. I really want to get in to that 5th day, but always seem to cave before I get there. Does anyone see a big difference from day 4 to day 5 when fasting?

(Shanda) #146

I’m gonna have to google how to do this … thanks for the warning. I’ll be careful not to mention anything :zipper_mouth_face:

To blur, highlight the
text
you wish to blur, press the little gear, and hit “Blur spoiler.” It will put in the correct code around your text.

My longest fast so far was 105 hours. At the time I didn’t see any big difference going from day 4 to 5 and could have fasted longer - I just needed to break it for social reason. Same with this fast - going to lunch with a dear friend tomorrow so I will break at 96 hours, which I am happy with.

If I can get past 48 I am good until I need to break it - never from hunger at that point. Although I do miss eating - not from hunger - just the enjoyment. But I just tell myself I could stand to skip a few meals LOL and that the food will still be there when I break my fast.

Maybe @lisylooby can offer her experience - she has fasted for much longer times than I have.

THANK YOU!!! :heart::heart:
TEST
Yup. Exactly right for me too. I’ve done 11 days on water only, and at that time my body tapped out for me, all by itself! But 3, 4, 5 days…I’m not really hungry anymore for those lengths.

BUT!!!

I miss eating. It is almost always my motivation for the break-fast.

Really dumb question here …
Is ketoaide ok when fasting? I’m using Brenda’s recipe. About the 22 hour mark I started feeling a bit sluggish and could feel a headache coming on. I didnt really feel hungry so I figured it was electrolytes because I had only had a bit of salt in my morning coffee today. So, I made some ketoaide and felt better within 10 minutes. This doesn’t technically break a water/ black coffee fast right? I figured it was fine at the time but now I’m questioning myself after the fact.

#152

Not a dumb question at all… But yes, I actually do a KetoAide every morning before work, and usually two whenever I’m Fasting. … Usually 6am and 6pm. - I’m also using @Brenda recipe, but with a little extras I like to put in there.

20 oz. water
1/2 tbsp. Magnesium Citrate
1/2 tbsp. Lemon Juice
1 tbsp. ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
1/4 tsp. Morton’s Lite Salt

Thanks for easing my mind

#154

Out of ‘likes’ …as usual. So you’re welcome.

I believe a lot folks I’ve seen post on here, use KetoAide more-so, while fasting. But some like myself, use it daily.

(Shanda) #155

I did it, I did it, I did it!!! First fast is in the books
24 hr mark has come and gone. I feel awesome! Bit of a speed bump when I made dinner for the kids but I made it! Gonna keep going until at least tomorrow morning. Not really feeling the need to eat right now. In fact, I’m afraid I might have trouble sleeping because I’m feeling pretty ramped up right now … lots of energy.

(Heather) #156

Nice job, Shanda!

(Lisa ) #157

Hi Heather!
Always happy to help out
Day 4 to 5 is where I get speed wobbles. My advice would be to utilise bone broth, mct oil in coffee, hot black drinks, and fizzy water. I would avoid sweeteners and dairy as they set off my hunger too much. If you feel you need more, try a small piece of
oven-roasted brisket or other fatty meat (or some fat in general)
. Also, ditch the all-or-nothing attitude if you have one! For me, if I need a little something to get me through then I don’t count it as breaking the fast.

Once i get past day 5 then I’m fine again until about day 12-13 when i generally feels like it is time to stop.

Have a look at some of my other threads if you would like some more ideas and n=1 experiments.

#158

Oh heck yeah. This is good advice. In fact, I’d been thinkulating on it for a spell, just recently. I need to learn how to fudge just a little, or maybe a “miss small” type of thing, without resulting in a full on belly flop.

I’m a perfectionist. And so either it is perfection or nothing.

That is SoooooOoOoOooo foolish…

And IT MOST DEFINITELY aided me hitting 333 pounds years ago. If I’m not ON IT FULL HONK , I tend to just quit.

(Lisa ) #159

Preach!!
This seems to be the downfall of most dieters in general.
I lurked through some older extended fasting posts and about 80% of the time anyone who set a goal above 5 days either gave in to hunger and then thought “stuff it” and gave up, OR they mysteriously stopped updating which I suspect is due to giving up and being too embarrassed to admit it.

We’re not perfect. I struggle with this a lot with my job (doctoring), but am learning to chill the heck out. Doing something good for 90% of the time is better than doing 100% perfect and then stuffing up and ditching it.

Be kind to yourself. You are worth it!!

(Jane) #161

 WOO HOO!!!

I posted this in reply to Dave’s post by accident so I deleted it. Now the stupid software won’t let me post the same to yours because it was “too similar to my previous post”.

What crap!!

Anywho… hopefully my rant makes this post “different” enough that the stupid bots allow it.
