I have been doing a wonderful job with my new lifestyle. I spontaneously found myself amongst a group of friends, and chose to eat the bun on a hamburger. That was at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. It is 8 a.m. on Monday, and my upper belly is still very uncomfortable. I am assuming I brought this upon myself by eating the bread, I have not had any other food since then, except for half of a hard-boiled egg and some chicken broth. It came on so suddenly, that I connected it to the bread that I ate. Is there anything I can take that will help ease the discomfort? My experiment of one was an absolute failure. I did not believe that those two pieces of bread would cause me so much pain and discomfort. Once I get past this, I can assure you I will never eat bread again. What a statement! And what a bummer of a way to learn this lesson. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you
I ate something I shouldn't
Sorry, I don’t know how to fix your pain, Just wanted to offer moral support.
Does it feel like reflux? You might try a couple TBS Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water.
Thank you, no reflux. Just a tightness and pressure in my upper abdomen, some gas and a bit of nausea. I was unable to really throw up, and I feel like I’ve passed everything through the other end of me. I was just hoping there was some magic potion or something. LOL! I have had some salted chicken broth and water. Thank you for the moral support, it is very helpful. for the most part, no one in my life understands my way of eating and that makes it very difficult to talk about things like this.
I can imagine that it would be. I’m fortunate that my wife and I are ketofied together so it makes it nicer.
This format is great for sharing information. I still feel that FB is better for the social support system. Have you joined any new FB groups since 2ketodudes is shutting down?
Yes, ketovangelist, and keto adaptation. I like the Facebook aspect of it but I appreciate the Forum and the way it is laid out, however it is not the same kind of social vibe. I don’t know if we will all get to know each other in here in the same way we could on Facebook. It’s nice that you and your wife are doing this together, a buddy always helps. (:
A few of us started a small group, Feel free to join us if you like. We are very laid back and discuss keto, fasting, the great oudoors and pretty much anything that interests us. We only have a few hunded members which makes it kind of cozy.
It should pass and likely is an inflammation in your intestines. I get the same with certain foods and I need to figure out exactly which ones because they have been mixed up so difficult to pinpoint. I have my suspicions though! Hopefully you are feeling better now but my advice is to record this - video or written - as it feels in the moment so that you can remind yourself. It always seems to fade with time otherwise.
Like you said, you will not likely be doing this again. Work out what you will say when people ask you why you are leaving the bun at the side of your plate. Or maybe ask the waiting staff if you can adapt your order and leave it off (I hate waste!). These setbacks are annoying but if you make the most of it, it will be a valuable lesson for the future.
Oh my god, it has been horrible! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything quite like this. I’m so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I just could never imagine that two stupid pieces of bread would have such a massive impact on my body. It’s like ingesting poison! I hope I never forget this feeling, because I never ever want to experience it again!! Thank you so much for your understanding, I greatly appreciate it. Lesson learned.
Disclaimer- Dont get me wrong, I am no fan of bread any further in my life, But I would not be so sure that your discomfort was caused by the burger bun, and perhaps had something to do with what was between the buns.
I honestly cannot recall reading posts from anyone making mention of gas pains from veering off the diet for some occasional bread.
I was/am thinking the same. I will never know. I will definitely avoid that restaurant in the future. I still don’t feel right. It seems like an awfully long time for bread to be in my belly. I sure hope I feel better tomorrow. If not, I might contemplate a doctor.
Wheat has a big impact on me if I have it now. It affects me in a different way though. Things that give me intestinal pain usually work their way through within hours. So yes, it would be advisable to see a doctor if it continues. I got ill once from something - not sure what - and it set off spasms in my intestines which were so painful I couldn’t stand up straight. It went on for a week and I was also passing mucus every 30 minutes. NOT nice! It was pretty easily resolved though with anti spasmodic tablets so do go to the doctor if it persists. I always have anti spas tablets in stock now too!
The things I am learning!! I keep thinking if the meat was bad I would have really vomited, which never really happened. And that was all that I ate, a hamburger patty, with an onion slice, a bun and some chipotle mayonnaise. My experience with food poisoning has also been extreme discomfort in the lower belly, never in my upper abdomen.
Nope. Lots of gurgling. It comes and goes in waves, like undulations. I have 5 minutes of no pain, then wham. I feel like I have to poop sort of, but there’s really nothing left. I have no tenderness to the touch or anything like that either. Just an extreme discomfort.
I will. I’m going to see my acupuncturist in the morning, and if I’m not feeling better by then I’m going to a regular MD.
Reading through the thread, it sounds like to me that you have some sort of food poisoning. Which is not uncommon when it comes to restaurant food. Adding wheat bread is like throwing gasoline on an existing fire. You are correct in that if the pain continues by tomorrow to seek medical attention. Mild food poisoning passes in a day, and provide a bit of discomfort. Strong afflictions that last longer or put you in deep pain should be investigated.
