Hate to even post this (no weight loss after 17 days)

Seventeen days of strict yet dirty Keto. Zero weight loss. I’ve read so much about Keto and others having similar issues, plus all the suggestions. Yet I still feel like I need some handholding and encouragement.

As others have suggested, I’ve not tracked macros during this beginning stage. Just carbs. Attempting to keep it simple as my body adjusts.

The good news is I feel so much better. More energy, not a slave to cravings. And less pain in my joints! So those are definite wins.

Why not focus on feeling better, having more energy and less joint pain. As I am sure you have read 1,000 times…keto is not a crash quick fix way of eating. It takes time. Just relax.

What is strict but dirty? How many whole carbs are you eating? I would have no idea how many carbs I was really getting if I was believing net carbs on processed food labels. If no processed food, then maybe it’s not the right combo of protein and fats. That’s a big part of doing keto in a healthful way.

A lot of people will tell you you don’t need to track. I’m not one of them. If I don’t track, I don’t lose (unless I’m eating the EXACT same thing every day and I like some food variety).

Hi Karen –

Conquering your cravings is yuuuuuge! Think about it.

Also, it can be harder for women to lose because your hormones are much more complex than dudes. Just keep up the good fight.

Yep, being a woman (or older, or postmenopausal, or very insulin resistant, etc) can really complicate our journeys. At this point, I would just focus on getting through the first weeks and months. It gets easier. It really does.

The body will often prioritize healing over weight loss when it’s finally given adequate building blocks and fuel.
Damn
body!

You’re doing great!

I am in the same boat as you… 2 weeks of religiously tracking macros and not even 1 pound! I only have about 15 to lose so I’m thinking that it might take longer to come off. But, like you, I feel AMAZING! So I am sticking with it because I have boundless energy, no cravings and yet I’m satisfied. I read that it takes about 5-6 weeks to become fat adapted and then the weight will start to come off. fingers crossed!

Very true!! And feeling better! Thanks for the encouragement.

I’ve been looking online for a good site that will give me a proper count for fats, carbs, and protein. Any suggestions.

Track your food and let me know roughly how many calories you’re eating.

Beginners usually make the mistake of restricting calories when they start - your metabolism is likely already slow if you’re doing this for weight loss. Same question comes up dozens of times a day here (but judging from your title I think you knew in the back of your head).

I use the free lose it app. There are other keto specific apps but Lose It works for me. I can scan the barcode of what I’m eating and then put in the amount.

I like cronometer.

(Bev) #12

Thanks I’ll look it up.

(Janelle) #13

I like it too. I just got used to this one and it does all that I need.

I love cronometer however, the default recommendations when you set the macros for keto, puts me around 1.2g of protein per kg of total body weight. It’s doable but I often found myself hungry at that level. Protein is a big part of satiety and I don’t agree that limiting myself to 60g per day is necessary. I often eat double what it tells me to eat and my weight loss journey has been better than my expectations. In general I find most macro calculators limiting protein way more than I find myself averaging.

WIth having said that, I changed the default maximum for protein at 120 grams at cronometer.com. My takeaway is that you don’t have to eat to satisfy a macro in order to be successful. At least not beyond restricting carbs less than 40 or less than 20 for max effect.

I don’t know how folks copy quotes from other peoples comments. But wanted to thank everyone for their advice and support. And address a couple things that were mentioned.

To clarify - maybe low carb would be a better title for my way of eating these last two weeks or so since I’ve not calculated fats or protein. Just Counting carbs and keeping under 20. No processed foods except cheese. Eating when hungry and until full. Averaging two meals a day. Adding fat (butter, avocado, oil) to foods. Using Keto test strips (I know these have limited accuracy) and getting a nice deep purple.

I am 42 which makes me prime candidate for metabolic and hormone issues. And I’m not looking for a quick fix or rapid weight loss. I just really thought a pound or two might fall off. Lol. My hunch is that I’ve been under eating because I just haven’t felt hungry.

With all that said, probably just felt like I needed a little cheerleading this morning. To keep on keeping on. Thank you everyone

If you highlight the text you want to quote a little grey quote box will appear above it - just click on that & the quote should appear in the reply window :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi and welcome. It’s pretty normal to lose your appetite, especially in the beginning. We’re eating food that fills us up and when you don’t have the sugar crashes you don’t feel the need to eat again, or snack. I’m 43 and although it would be glorious if I lost 5 lbs a week like the fellas can, I’m really quite happy with the results. Aside from feeling better in so many ways and having a much better life in general, I am losing inches. I recommend measuring with a tape measure as you go as well as weighing. Remember weight goes up and down or sometimes doesn’t move at all but changes are still happening.

I’ll bet if you tracked for a couple of weeks you’d find some hidden carbs or you may find certain foods aren’t working for you for other reasons. Hang in there!

(Bev) #18

I haven’t been tracking either just making sure it’s very low carbs. I’m going to check out Crone ether and lost app. The last couple days I’ve been eating brunch and supper. So I don’t eat from 7pm until 11am. Is that considered fasting?

You ate 4 ounces of salami? Isn’t that stuff about 1g carb per 2 slices?
