Food sensitivities testing after 30 days of steak

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #1

Having realized my body is in a “pure” state, I decided to take advantage of this opportunity to test for food sensitivities.
I will test each food three days and watch for any signs of intolerance such as BG spikes, quick weight gain (indicating inflammation), mood, sleep, digestion, etc.
I will be testing at least 20 different foods including eggs, nuts, artificial sweeteners and both cruciferous and nightshade vegetables.

Heavy cream.
I decided on heavy cream.
After 30 days of steak-only, the first food I will introduce to test for food sensitivities is heavy cream.

…headed to my favorite coffee shop for a heavy cream latte. Good thing they know me (the owner even listened to my first podcast interview), so they know how weird I am. They’re not likely to flinch when pull out my digital scale, weigh the cup, weigh the espresso, and finally- weigh the latte to decipher the weight of the heavy cream. Lol

Again. Dave Feldman @DaveKeto would be proud.

Amazing. You have a PODCAST?! Where? Where can I find it?

I was interviewed on 2KetoDudes
3 times. But this one was just about my story:

At the coffeeshop my medium latte ended up with 13 ounces of cream!!!
I drank half.
6.5 ounces of cream is at minimum 70 grams fat. Lol

5.5 hours later I’m hungry earlier than usual, and also sleepy. That, no doubt, is because a drank the cream at 8 am. I am used to waiting until after 4 pm to eat.
Tomorrow I’ll wait till after 4 to drink the cream, and see how I do.
No other issues so far

@Brenda And maybe bring a tablespoon to measure your HWC into your coffee, so you know how much you’re adding, and keep it a more normal portion LOL! anything in too large a portion could become insulinigenic, except water.

FYI at Panera, they told me they have no HWC except what’s in the whipped cream canister, so I got that in a separate cup on the side. One taste told me it’s wicked sweetened, so no-go for me.

Are you consuming anything other than the test during this?

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #7

I had to giggle. You meant a half cup measure, right? Lol
I can tolerate several ounces at a time. And with a latte, they steam the cream before adding, so I cannot measure.
Not worried about being exact, weighing is ok for a few days.
Bummer on the Panera cream. All my coffeeshops have heavy cream here. I feel lucky.

Continuing with steak and coffee to keep things consistent.
There can be no other variables except the tested food.

(John) #9

I thought you might be sick of steak and fasting other than the food. Listen to me, sick of steak!

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #10

Must. Follow. Protocol.

Lol

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #11

More cream.

(Laura) #12

I already know my food issues. I have allergies to Dairy, except ghee, Beef and pork.

Yes that means no bacon.

BIG SIGH!

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #13

Yikes! Maybe test again in a few years. I’m curious to see if I react to egg whites this time. I have in the past.

Ok people. I really ate the cream today! 6.5 ounces in a latte at 8 am, ate my usual fatty steak at 6pm (1 lb, 6 oz) then an hour later whipped a cup of cream (yes, I mean I whipped up 8 ounces liquid cream!) and ate that too! heh

Blood glucose 1.5 hours after dinner was 105.
Blood ketones 2 hours after after eating all that cream? See for yourself.

Floyd doesn’t like cream

Not feeling the best. Super tired and slightly acid stomach, which is not normal for me. Likely the mega dose of fat today caused it. I will eat less cream tomorrow and wait till after 4.

Total fat consumed today including my steak?

#drumroll please

About 280 grams. Lol

I was really sad to learn after my first whole 30 that dairy is not my friend (OK, so I already knew that, but Whole 30 made me admit it). Terrible heartburn and reflux trigger. Cheese, yogurt too. Butter is ok, ghee is fine. Boo hoo!

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #17

Up a pound this morning.
No, I did not gain a pound of fat overnight, that’s inflammation.
Today I’ll go buy cream without guar gum and carrageenan. In case they’re the culprit. And wait till after 4 to drink it, in case that is what caused my early hunger yesterday.
I will also consume MUCH less, probably 4 ounces total.
Here’s hoping…

After I read how much cream you had, I thought, that amount might make me nauseous and then I read how you were feeling afterwards. :frowning:

@janknitz I, also, did Whole30 just before I went keto and did my first year of keto dairy (and AS) free. The best I’ve felt, so I’m going dairy free again (started a dairy free April challenge) but taking it one month at a time. I’m okay with butter, too. My 23andMe results said that I’m probably lactose intolerant. Also, I didn’t realize 60-80% of Ashkenzki Jews are lactose intolerant and that could be a factor for me, too.

So what do you mean by inflammation?
This is the first I’ve heard that term used with weight fluctuations.
