December IF/EF chat - all welcome!

(What The Fast?!) #221

Will do. I just realized why I’m so hungry - :shark: week is coming. I’m always ravenous right before. Ahh, the joys of being a lady.

#222

I’m super late to the party, but hi, everyone!
I follow OMAD, so I eat once a day around 6 PM. I fast for the other 23 hours.
I started OMAD about 3 weeks ago and have lost 8 pounds. Now I am back to keto (today is my 3rd day), so I’m thinking the losses will be even better from now on.

(Zoe ) #223

Thanks for writing about how you fell “okay” when you are fasting, but not great. I have fasted today and felt okay but not great so it is good to know that can be normal.

(Cheryl Meyers) #224

That is what I am doing today, my first really long IF of 23 hours, I hope. I haven’t managed to go that long in the past…

(Doodler for @KetoKailey) #225

How was it, @camtosh?

Mine evolved to an OMAD yesterday: water all day in the office, but the M at home turned out to be BPC.

@rustyk61, is this how IF naturally transforms to EF?

(Doodler for @KetoKailey) #226

@OldDoug @ZoZo - I third that motion. OK, but not feeling too great while on EF even if it’s been only over 24 hours.

With 20:4 or 22:2, I always felt great!

(Doug) #227

Cheers, Zoe. For me, physically, what’s really good is that I don’t feel bad. The mental part is great, and I think there’s great benefit for crazy people like me - it leads us to think about our relationship with food, blah blah blah - all the reasons why we eat.

Some people report feeling euphoria - sounds great but if anything I’ve only touched on a little bit of that. There sure are a lot of different experiences we have with fasting.

Don’t know about anyone else but that’s how it happened for me. Just kinda seemed natural

(Cheryl Meyers) #229

I made it 23 hours! Feeling good now, ready to sleep well. I’m going to do this regularly to build up my fasting muscle.

(Liz ) #230

I did a little 45 hour fast which was not difficult at all. But I got a headache on day 2 which I notice happens pretty frequently when I fast & it is a real drag.

I definitely keep up with my sodium & magnesium when I fast & stay adequately hydrated, not over hydrated though. And I have the same amount of caffeine.

I’m prone to hormonal migraines once or twice a month so I’m wondering if these headaches, which sometimes turn into low grade migraines, are hormonal. Maybe from estrogen released from fat stores?

Or if I’m eating something I’m sensitive to that I withdraw from when I fast?

Anyone else get headaches while fasting? Please share your experiences!

#231

OK, after a crazy day driving for hours with family and a massive life change (custody granted to my son, bringing granddaughter to his home, furniture and etc!) I caved after 48 hours and went out for a wedge salad (extra blue cheese) and a strip steak w/ herbed butter (extra again!) on our way home.

Feeling good and happy for my family, hoping the stress will be greatly relieved and will likely get into another fast before Christmas. I want at least one 72-hour round this month.

Noticing my heart rate is elevated though and wonder if it is the water/electrolytes or if there may be some anemia? Ah well, can’t figure that out without bloodwork and that is going to happen anytime soon, as far as I am planning anyway! Perhaps after the New year?

Enjoy your weekend, working or not and cheers to you all my fasting friends! Love this forum

#232

No headaches for me Liz. Headaches are a drag! Ugh, I am not one that can usually push through a headache with any type of decorum. I get grouchy and whiny, so I feel for you on this. My biggest battle is the ongoing head (ache) game of not thinking about the yummy things I want to eat AFTER I fast! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m not sure about this, but it sounds very possible. At least that they are linked to the headaches you generally experience anyway. We are som complex…

(Doug) #233

Great news, Helewisa. :slightly_smiling_face:

#234

I am still following 23:1, but I haven’t been able to make it to 6 PM for the past couple of days. I have been having my meals at 4 PM, which I think I might actually prefer. I was afraid to eat earlier because I was afraid of late night snacking/binges, but it seems to be working out okay so far.

(Liz ) #235

@Helewisa So glad that worked out! I know it’s been a long stressful ordeal. I’ll keep on with occasional fasting despite the headaches. I’ll keep trying to figure it out.

@curlybri I’m pretty sure if I didn’t have a schedule of making dinner for me & my husband when he gets home from work each evening, my natural tendency would be to eat one big meal at 4:30.

(Zoe ) #236

@curlybri @LizinLowell Your comments have me thinking I might gravitate to 4:30 pm too. I have been fasting during the day and usually want to break it around 4:30. I realised that today I probably would have passed on a later dinner (7pm) if I was not eating with my partner. Interesting. I will see how I go the next few times.

#237

I have been eating between 3:30 and 4:30 lately, and I actually really like it! I think I will stick to it.

#238

Presently in hour 38 of my “Zorn fast”, or that’s my plan anyway! Salty bullion, tea, water and lots of gift wrapping and packages to ship. Too many friends and family evening that begin this Thursday to do this fast on the 21st, so…

All in all, this has been a surprisingly easy holiday season so far. I just need to keep my mind focused on what is good and not think about the things I “can’t” eat. But I did make some keto spiced sugar cookies for breaking my fast

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #239

Finally back in my own kitchen. Doing some IFing, will start the Zornfast on Wed. night and go through to the 24th. If the fasting gods are on my side.

I’ve only managed two over 24 hr. fasts this month. Living where they feed you twice a day was easy for IFing but not so much for extended fasting. So glad to be back home. Still awaiting movers on Thursday to get the rest of the house together. I have been so stressed out this month. I did get a good surprise when I finally dug out the scale yesterday, in my winter jeans and shirt I was still under my goal weight, so i know I didn’t do too bad. In the past I would have stress eaten on about 10 lbs. So I am pretty happy with my results.

I need to quit reading the forum and get to the grocery, the cupboards are pretty bare, and I need to make sure I have plenty of fats before I enter the fasting zone, makes it so much easier. I have found I do best when I eat more fat before and just regular keto after a fast.

Sounds like everyone is doing good this month. Dec. is a hard one due to all the festivities.

Merry Christmas everyone. I have been taking a break from the warrior fasts for the last week and a half or so, but I’ve managed to stay keto. Nice to read everyone’s progress.
