Any weightloss that you noticed? Many thanks
December IF/EF chat - all welcome!
I got home last night from work and hit the 48 hour mark, knowing that I was only going to 72 hours this evening and took a steak and bacon out of the freezer. As of this writing, I’m at 62 hours.
My November Zorn fast was 72 hours, the longest EF I’d done to date. I’m planning my December Zorn fast beginning after breakfast on Dec. 20, then break it on eve of Dec. 23, so that would be 84 hours. This month so far I’ve done four 24-hour fasts, and the rest of the days are 2 meals a day about 6-7 hours apart. I’ve been much less hungry the last couple of weeks, with my daily cals averaging 1300. I was up over 1700 a month ago. Don’t know why, I haven’t last any additional weight or inches since the Nov. Zorn fast.
Well, for me there is usually no real weight loss with my fasts, but I’m thinking that there may have been a wee bit this time. In truth, I daren’t step on that dratted scale until I have several more 48-72 hour fasts in close succession.
I’ll be sure to let you know right here if there is finally some weight loss for me. It has been a long while, and I am really determined to reset my body “set-weight”.
Made it to 72 hours. I’ll be eating some riced cauliflower and a small amount of chicken when I get home from work in an hour.
Started my 14 days (hopefully!) fast yesterday. The longest I’ve done is close to 72 hours. The first almost 72 hours was accidental, I was 2 months (started June 2017) in keto and just wasn’t hungry. I am not used to not eating so when I realized I haven’t eaten for almost 3 days I panicked and ate (broke my fast the wrong way and had stomach problems after). Have done other 2 days (almost 3 days) fast after but couldn’t push through because life interrupted. hahaha I am trying again this time. So far so good!
Started a 2 day fast last night after dinner! I’m so busy, this is perfect timing.
I did a 48 Hour fast earlier this week Tues/Weds. I am having what some may consider a blessing, but i feel like it’s a hindrance. I have no appetite, it is starting to worry me! My stomach growls, however I am not hungry. This is really throwing off my meal cooking skills, I have no interest in maintaining my Macros, that is to say, I still eat as much fat and protein as necessary, but I am less inclined to be as strict. I realize how much we as social-humans are regulated by the 3-meal a day habit, and how really hard it is to socially and business-wise to break-free of this. Is it possible to be so fat-adapted that my body is just gobbling my own stores? Does any of this make sense? Bueller, Bueller…Danke Schoen.
That is true for some of us, Carolus - especially if we have lots of fat to burn.
I began with ~73 kg or 160 lbs of fat to get rid of, somewhere around those numbers. I’m not even halfway through it yet, so lots left on me and in me. Thus far, I’ve felt decently good when fasting, not great but pretty darn “okay” most of the time, physically. Mentally - very good - happy to be doing something that is showing good results and that I think is very important in the long term.
You are so right about the social aspects of our eating and its scheduling. My mind will also play crazy tricks and come up with all sorts of excuses and rationalizations to eat. I am not sure I’ve hit “true hunger,” yet, not even after 10 days of fasting. Most of the time, there is no doubt - my body is very happy to be consuming its own fat. If my body has a “mind,” then it must mainly be feeling RELIEF - we’re not getting fatter anymore, in fact- things are going back the other way.
Yes absolutely if your insulin is low enough for your body to access your fat stores there’s certainly no need to eat if you have no appetite. Eventually you will likely want food. But don’t force it if you feel fine! When my appetite disappeared at the beginning of my keto journey it was a huge relief. But after about 35 pounds down and 30 to go it did return! So whatever part of your keto progress you are on right now, go with it, as it is ever changing & you never know how you will feel down the road.
Spent some time catching up on these posts this morning and you guys motivated me to do a fast.
I just did 6 days of the bacon experiment, them had a holiday dinner last night (scallops, steak, oysters, and wine). I am craving today but think fasting is probably a good idea. I’ll fast today and if I’m feeling good, continue the fast through Friday as well. I’ll be traveling the rest of the month after that so may as well try to get ahead of it!
I don’t mind! I felt great! Here are my results, including a few days leading up to it, for reference:
12/4 146.4 - fasting
12/5 144.6 - fasting
12/6 142.6 - broke 64 hr fast with lunch and dinner
12/7 146.4 day 1 bacon experiment
12/8 145.1, day 2 bacon have a bad cold, taking lots of vitamins and water
12/9 141.8 hot yoga, day 3 bacon
12/10 143.5 day 4 bacon
12/11 143.5 w/o: TRX/kettlebell circuit class. day 5 bacon
12/12 144.5 w/o: light tennis day 6 bacon
12/13 142.6 w/o: TRX class. holiday dinner party in evening, had wine and such, but all keto foods
12/14 144.8 (water retention I’m sure) fasting
December is a hard month, and I couldn’t’ do my normal two five-day fasts. Instead, I am now almost four days into my longest fast: seven days!
Definite benefits to reading this forum - many is the time I’ve changed my ways, i.e. done better with keto or fasting.
Same. I’m really craving bacon today, definitely needed the motivation.
Just hit 50hrs of unplanned fast but I swear housemates are trying to kill me, one is Italian and made her own pasta to do carbonara, the other had fish & chips, both offered me some; somehow managed to say no, had no idea I actually had this much willpower!
Had a very stressful weekend but decided the best cure was to IF. Had Sun dinner then fasted 40 hr. Then ate late lunch and dinner Tuesday before fasting 48 hrs until dinner thur. Felt great all week and bonus is I have been hovering between 155 and 158 for almost 2 months. Tues I was 154 and thur morning I was 152! So happy!
