Article mentions cricket protein powder “… and the Paleo flour is made from a blend of arrowroot flour, almond flour, coconut flour, tapioca flour, and cricket flour.” I think my vegan daughter might accept this protein source.
Crickets, anyone?
They’ve been selling bug snacks on https://www.musclefood.com/ for sometime now… I’ve always managed to resist (very easily!)
A new type of food: resistant protein, lol!
Crickets are part of the animal world, if she is dedicated to veganism, she will not.
We have cricket protein bars at work. Too many carbs in them for me to try. They also sell the powdered form at our grocery store in the Natural Foods section.
I guess a shrimp looks kinda like a giant bug. Insects however have not been part of my diet, I think it’s cool tho.
In Australia they have several sea critters that are call “bugs”. Balmoral and Morton Bay bugs. Think a giant crayfish and you get an idea of what those are like. Delicious too. I can those bugs all day and through the night!
Nothing like them here in the US, also I miss the Banana prawns, ok staring a pity party for myself over here now.
There is a bug museum near me that sells little boxes of crickets and they aren’t bad! They were sour cream and onion flavor and had a nice crisp. Not sure on the macros, it was a while ago.
I tried one of the bars. They were good (no cricket flavor that I could detect!). They are mostly too high carb though, so I’d rather make my own if I could find a good cricket powder that didn’t have fillers. But then I’m a pretty adventurous eater.
I could see how cricket protein could be a rapidly growing business opportunity.
I tried grasshoppers in Oaxaca. They taste like grass.
Crickets are omnivorous, so I don’t know what they’d taste like (if anything).
Yep. Cricket powder was 60% off, so I picked up 3 bags and sneak it in food when I’m cooking for my family. They don’t notice, it doesn’t have much of a taste in my opinion. I’d love to dehydrate some whole ones someday for a snack, or roll them in some garlic butter…
Yoooooo if I were your family and found out you were sneaking bugs in my food, I’d lose my mind. Regardless of whether I tasted it or not, I’d be so angry. I’d at least like to have a say in whether I wanted to try bugs. Not cool at all.
I have brought it up. My mom said “if that’s what you’ve been putting in, keep putting it in, because your recipe tastes good the way it is now” even though she was a bit disgusted. I’ve done it with liver too, and tongue. Oh well.
