Although it is perfectly possible to get that much change on a bio-impedence “smart” scale because they don’t actually measure bodyfat.
Consistently gaining weight after two years on keto
Yess! I claim even more: 2.5 years ago, when I started, my weight was dropping steadily even at 50-60g carbs a day. Later, it was still dropping somewhat below 20g. Now, I gain no weight at 0g but
anything above that leads to weight gain. I got SENSITIZED in the process. I can not lose weight/fat any more by carb restriction. (There are no keto practitioners here. Keto is not a craze here yet.)
Are you tracking? Do you have the actual macros and calories? It’s ok to say you don’t. Not everyone tracks faithfully. I certainly don’t. But if you don’t, then that is what you should be doing to sort out your issue. It’s easy to get too many carbs from dairy and vegetables if you aren’t keeping track. It happened to me. You may think you are only eating 15 grams of carbs and 2000 calories but if you aren’t tracking, you could also be wildly off target.
Like I said, people here will help you if you want it. But we will need more exact information about what you are eating.
The kind folks here who want to help have repeatedly asked you to post what you eat for a couple of days. Not just a list of foods you eat. When, what, how much.
Or are you content to gain weight and argue with those trying to help?
The urine test sticks shouldn’t have high readings, if you were in ketosis. That’s the point.
As your body gets more efficient at producing ketone bodies the ratio of the type of ketone bodies changes. The ketone urine sticks don’t always measure the β-hydroxybutyrate. If yours do, fine.
Maybe you’re only low-carb. Not keto. Without tracking your macros, 5C/25P/75F %, maybe that’s just it. Every snowflake is different, some more so than others maybe.
While you may not have practitioners where you are, there are practitioners who offer video sessions. Post a request for referrals as a topic and see what people can recommend.
Your situation is unique and while you report your blood work is fine, it’s best you work with professionals vs us in the public.
we will be happy to be supportive! And interested in how you end up cracking the code of your own metabolism.
Hi,
I think you don’t understand it. A negative urine test might mean that you are in ketosis, but no ketones in the urine. A positive urine keto test always means you have plenty of ketones in your blood.
Please, see this https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto#urine-strips
I copy the last sentence here “Thus, the test may sometimes stop working – always showing a negative result – when you’ve been in ketosis for several weeks.”
A positive urine test can mean you’re spilling them because you’re not using them for energy.
Your kidneys try to re-intake the useful stuff from urine and let the waste out. It is not 100% perfect, so, some ketones get into the urine. If you assume that you drink 3L water a day and your urine ketone level is dangerously high (160 mg/dL) , then you pee 3g ketones/day which is about 20 calories in a day. So, the energy impact of ketones in urine is nil.
You keep focusing on your pee strips and ketone levels but completely ignoring the fat that it is NOT A MEASURE OF BURNING FAT FROM YOUR BODY.
And you can gain weight eating a ketogenic diet and being in ketosis. Isn’t this your original question and concern?
Or are you going to keep arguing your pee sticks tell you all you need to know? Because either we are all lying or you are incorrect.
I’m just saying, that I’m all the time in ketosis. I don’t eat stuff which kicks me out of ketosis. So, the reason I’m gaining weight is not nutritional. I just would like to see how many of you with a 24+ months record has the same problem. It can be that the initial (means two years!) weight loss is temporary and once the body learns to digest fat, we get obese again, no matter what.
Ok. My last post since you really don’t understand the science behind how you can be in ketosis and not burning body fat.
You’d rather believe some silliness you made up in your head. Good luck!
It can be nutritional. All being in ketosis means is that your burning fat, not where that fat is coming from. If you eat enough food, you will be burning fat off your plate ONLY and you can still be adding fat from your plate to your body. Loads of people here understand that you still have to watch the amount that you eat on ketosis.
I’m an example. If I eat 2 or three meals a day, if I have cream in my coffee all day, if I eat nuts, or nut butters I will start to gain weight. However, I can be in ketosis and never be hungry and live at my goal weight, which is the same weight I was in my 20’s and which makes me very happy, by avoiding ALL those things. And I can ONLY do that, by being in ketosis because otherwise I’d be hungry all day waiting for my one meal.
I like how your proof that keto doesn’t work changed from 15 months to 24 months. It says a lot.
Anyhow, this is my last reply to you too. Start tracking if you want to sort yourself out. It’s very obvious now that you don’t, and that you’d rather just blame the diet than sort out your eating problem.
Or a troll. Timeline a bit odd. I know I said I wasn’t posting again so sue me.
Started keto Aug 2016 and lost 33 lbs in 6 months so that takes us to Feb 2017. Plateaued a year - Feb 2018. Then IF for 4 months - June 2018 and lost another 11. Then gained 15 lbs in 2 weeks, so July 2018 at the latest. Then gained another 7 lbs over a vague time period so basically gained back half the lost weight.
Months ago. Doesn’t track. Trashed Fung. First post on this forum not looking for help but just arguing his point about using pee sticks 2 1/2 years after starting keto. Riiiiiiiight.
I’d say it’s an odd way to spend your time but I spend a fair bit of time watching House Hunters so…
Hi Guys, I did not want to harm you or to troll your forum. I think I learned enough from your replies. Thank you for your feedbacks! Gabor
