Consistently gaining weight after two years on keto

I could certainly gain 2 pounds of fat in a week pre keto. Now, I’m not so sure, but I bet I could come close. everyone is different.

(Gabor Vattay) #42

I’m male. I’m fat adapted, but I have a medium urine ketone levels too. Some people have it, some don’t. I eat the stuff you can see here https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/visual-guides in various proportions, and I keep track of my carb intake.

(Gabor Vattay) #43

OK. It can be an exaggeration, but the point is: if I eat sandwich like stuff (self-made keto bread + butter + meat + keto veggies) all 20g/day, I seem to gain as much as on normal bred based sandwiches. I agree that 2 pounds fat is a lot, but I was talking about weight.

(mole person) #44

Not everyone can eat things like keto bread and still lose weight. I don’t touch the stuff. It’s unfortunate but not everyone loses weight on keto with all the same choices on the table.

Also, it is possible to overdo the amount you eat. Most people’s satiety on keto helps prevent this but it’s not true for everyone. Do you track protein and fat grams? Calories?

I can gain weight very easily while staying in ketosis 100% of the time. Being in a state of ketosis only means that you’re burning fat. It does not mean, necessarily, that you’re burning fat off your body.

#45

That’s not what you said tho. You said you went from 25% fat to 30% in two weeks, which is biologically impossible.

#46

Obviously you’re lying.

Just like me.

@Ilana_Rose we might as well give up and confess our weight gain these last six months, and quit pretending we belong here. We’ve been made, time to go!

(Empress of the Unexpected) #47

@Ilana_Rose. I hit 109 the other day but I can guarantee you my body fat is hanging around in the high 20’s. So envious.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #48

Yikes 31.1 body fat. And yeah, all in my midsection. Though when I measured I note I have lost two inches off my waist.

(mole person) #49

The measure could be off, I’m getting it from a scale and they can be very inaccurate.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #50

You look fit by your profile pic. How tall are you?

(Running from stupidity) #51

Yup. 22 is more than 18, therefore, she’s putting on weight and lying about it. Gabor told me.

KICKIN’ !

“REGINA’S PEPPERONI DIET! AT A SUPERMARKET NEAR YOU!”

(Empress of the Unexpected) #52

That was a flash-in-the-pan. I’m now having intense pork rind cravings. That will last a few days. And the cycle will repeat.

(Running from stupidity) #53

Cycles do that.

Well… the Keto bread your eating may contain more fat than normal sandwich bread. Are you slicing your bread as thin as its supposed to be or are you calculating your bread recipe based on macros online but not your own individual ingridents?

People here will argue against or for calories…im not going to do that. What i will say though, is keto breads which are mostly nut or cheese based are higher in fat compared to your typical wheat breads. And if you are not using identical ingridents to the person who posted the recipe, you could be getting different macros. You could also get very different macros if you got more or less slices then it says it made. It can add up to a huge difference…

And inless your weighing and measuring with a scale, you could be consuming upwards of 200-500 calories more than you think you are. Same for Carbs.

Buy a blood ketone tester - your body produces a variety of different ketones and urine keto sticks only measure ‘spill-over”, they’re known to be inaccurate after you become fat adapted. The level of ketones in your urine can be reflective of your hydration levels.

You’re a physicist, but you’re looking at this diet affects you only in basic weight terms when there are more accurate methods available. Like DEXA scans, and blood ketone measurements. There are quite a few podcasts from the Dudes about ketone measurements and methods of testing.

This below is from wiki (so many keto sites to choose from) :
Note that urine measurements may not reflect blood concentrations. Urine concentrations are lower with greater hydration and after adaptation to a ketogenic diet the amount lost in the urine may drop while the metabolism remains ketotic. Most urine strips only measure acetoacetate, while when ketosis is more severe the predominant ketone body is β-Hydroxybuterate

There is also a great 2KD podcast with Megan Ramos about short fasts, mixing it up and EF. They were particularly interesting because the advice was counterintuitive.

It’s Biology, everyone is different, not every experiment will have the same effect every time as there is no vacuum tube, we’re complex organisms with a lotta shit going on.

KCKO, but test blood, not pee.

(Gabor Vattay) #56

If my urine ketone tests were negative, I would agree with you. But, my urine ketone levels are always high, so I’m obviously producing lots of ketones so that even the spillover is high. Nevertheless, I’m gaining weight, if I’m doing water fasting, my metabolic rate drops and I gain back weight immediately after that. Just yesterday I finished a 6 days water fast. I’ve lost 5.5 kg in 6 days. Then I ate normally for 24 hours (15g carbs) and presto, 4 kg is already back. The rest will come back tomorrow.

I just scrolled through the posts so I might have missed something—sorry if I did.

You’re single-handedly destroying the myth that all men can lose weight at the drop of a hat:grinning:

I’d recommend a consult with one of the Keto practitioners. You are having something strange happening which could possibly be solved tweaking your foods, timing of your fasts etc.

Good luck!

(mole person) #58

You know that can’t be all fat, right? Neither the 5.5 kg in the lost column, nor the 4 kg in the gained column. The maximum you’re likely to lose in fat per day is about a quarter of a kilogram. So over 6 days maybe 1.5 kg or a tiny bit more. Depending on how much you eat, it’s not at all impossible to gain that back in short order. I certainly have a friend who can manage to pack on 1.5 kg in a week.

You keep telling us how many carbs you eat but not anything else. Being in ketosis is no guarantee of weight loss. All it means is that you are burning fat, not where that fat is coming from.

There are lots of people here who would love to help you but your not giving us enough information. Do you track your macros? What are you eating in a standard day? You say you ate normally the last 24 hours, what did you eat?

#59

Yep, exactly my thoughts when I was scrolling through this thread.

Hearing all these theories about undiagnosed ailments, faulty measuring equipment, wild exaggerations of stats, when the simple solution might be that he’s eating half a dozen Quest bars a day.

Detailed menu of what you eat please. That might reveal the underlying problem.

(Gabor Vattay) #60

Bacon, cheese, eggs, some keto veggies, about 2000 cal.
