APRIL 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

(Herb Martin) #121

So Carol and I are at 3-days and she still seems good to go for morning to make 3 1/2 days on her first extended water fast.

What a trooper!

And I finally got to decent ketosis, 1.6 with a GKI of 3.26, but I am down 10 lbs in 3+ days.

(Carol) #122

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a poor sleeper. I guess I’m lucky that is one of the things keto fixed immediately. I sleep solidly for 6 hours and wake refreshed whether I’m fasting or not. (I’m trying for more and occasionally get 7 but not often.) I’m always sorry when I hear others are having issues with sleep. This is new territory for me and I’m loving the change.

I’m also dealing with a foot issue. After 8 months there is much improvement but not a total fix yet. But at my age, I’m learning patience.

I don’t either. I weigh once a month just to make sure I don’t need to tweak something. No stress, my clothes tell the story for me. Maybe I’ve done too many “diets” and the thrill is gone.

That’s great Herb! Now get her to take those pics and measurements - I’m sure she’ll be happy she did!

(Herb Martin) #123

We did the measurements today. Forgot the pics but we’ll get those tomorrow (if not on the way to bed in a few…)

Thx for the reminder.

Strange story about the measurements:
Few years back I had purchased a handful of cheap tape measures from eBay and forgot about them mostly.

We started using one today, me first. My chest is about 46 and waist has been up above 40. So Carol gets Chest 36 (no way I say), then waist 32 1/2 :star_struck: (haven’t been that small since the Army 45+ years ago, and not all of the time then.)

My biceps were 2-3 inches too small – awe, come on.

So Carol has me check the tape – turns out all the “inches” were about 1 1/4 inches so it was reading about 20% too low.

Must have been marked in deci-Cubits or some weird Chinese measure.

We had to start over with an accurate tape measure.

I overdid the refeeding. :dizzy_face::dizzy_face:
I was soo stuck on the idea of wanting something cake like that I ended up making a keto Chocolate mugcake with creamcheese frosting. I had to stop halfway through (this never happened before, which is super cool). I just couldn’t move anymore and do anything productive yesterday. I felt horrible and I am more than happy to get back to a 48h fast…

36 hrs. presently, and plan to break sometime today around midday. (42ish hrs.) Again, we have some stuff that needs to be eaten, less it go bad. So told the Wife last night she could put some stuff together for a lunch today. Plus I have plans to walk and doing an assessment on a community this morning, so I will get plenty of walking in beforehand. … Happy Fasting Folks.

(Andi loves space, bacon and fasting. ) #127

Checking in at 12 hours, working on another 48. My day is super busy and I’ll get home later than usual so should have no trouble staying distracted. Have a great Thursday Fasters!

So my total weightloss for my 66 hour fast was 3 pounds. I gained a pound back refeeding, which was to be expected. I’m quite happy with that. 3 pounds to go to reach my goal weight and then I’ll determine if I need to set a new goal. I’m almost at 13 hours into my 42 hour fast. Foot still bothering me this morning. How is everyone else doing today?

On the sleep issues I actually got some deep sleep last night! I’m still waiting on the supplements Herb mentioned earlier that I ordered from Amazon, however I had just received a bottle of magnesium oil so I lathered that all over my legs and arms and then I took some of my husband’s CBD oil. He uses it for anxiety but said it has improved his sleep so I figured what the heck. It worked! Who knows if it will continue to work but I will use it again tonight and we shall see.

I’m working in my garden today as it is supposed to be near 80 here. I’m really looking forward to having fresh vegetables from my own garden this year. Happy fasting all! Have a great day celebrating your new health!

I’m 11 hours in to a 72 hour fast. I had a couple of good days of refeeding and ready to get back at it. Glad to hear everyone is doing so well! I agree, this thread is really lively this month. Must be the spring weather. :sunflower::sunny::dark_sunglasses:

18h in to what I want to be at least 48, 48 seems to be my current sweetspot. night 3 is always horrible (sleepless) but that might come in handy tomorrow evening because I will stay out late and have to get up early. staying fasted through zumba class would put me on 65/66h…

Wishing everyone happy fasting.

Way to go people!!!

Happy Fasting (or feeding, or whatever your day brings)!

3 1/2 days complete so when Carol gets up she has her goal completed and perhaps more.

Less than 4 days, I am down 11 lbs, and the numbers are kicking up, Ketones 2.6 and GKI 1.84 (DrBozRatio 33.1)

Happy, feeling excellent this morning.

Good to go for 5 days or more (in all probability).

BTW, I will throw food away before putting something my body doesn’t need inside. Usually the freezer is a good choice, but I won’t eat it just to make it go away.

But that’s just me.

Update: I am working on removing meds, carefully. Yesterday I took only 1 of 4 or 5 blood pressure & diuretic med types; only 1 of 6-7 actual pills (skipped everything at night) with perfect blood pressure & heart rate.

This may not be permanent since having my fluids down due to fasting is possibly a big part of the good control, however it’s progress and my pressure is perfect again this morning so I considering whether to even take the “main” medicine (Azor) that did take yesterday.

No Afib, good pressure. Don’t have a working EKG right now (my AliveCor broke/failed) so I can’t check left bundle branch block, only the idiot light for Afib (and it’s OFF.)

Morning all, 82 hrs fasted. Finally had a decent sleep last night. I also never sleep well on fast.
Im down 7lbs this fast so far. I am debating on breaking fast tonight. Im heading out of town in the morning for an overnight trip. Going to the PINK concert. Woo hoo. I do feel like just fasting through it…but don’t want to break it over there, just incase it doesn’t go well. Aaaaahhhhhh what to do???
Enough about me… everyone sounds like the fasting is going well. Keep up good fasting:grinning::grinning:

I am so jelly right now

#134

Omg. Im so stoked. Taking my 15yr old daughter to her first concert.

I think you can power through the 48hr mark. That is my worst time. You’ll be amazed at what’s even just on the other side of those hours. I find myself not hungry and full of energy. You got this!!

#136

Broke at 42.5 hrs. … Spent the entire morning walking a whole community, doing an assessment on the exiting infrastructure, taking photos, note, etc. Now will spend the evening putting a full report together.

(Herb Martin) #137

Agreed. Though it might not be right at 48 hours for everyone.

Usually 2nd to 3rd day are the worst for the largest number of people (most of the 1st day is psychological & due to habit.)

Even though I don’t have a lot of significant trouble with hunger, Day 3 yesterday was probably the most noticeable to me – today, Day 4, I can clearly say “not at all hungry” (so far.)

We’re at 88 hours, and even though Carol said she stopped the fast this morning she’s actually not bothered to break the fast.

We had a whole plan for her to break the fast and refeed through the day, but all she’s had is a bit of heavy cream in coffee.

(I don’t know if she forgot  or changed her mind. Probably should keep my mouth shut. )

After all this talk about sleep problems and thinking I was past it…I went to sleep last night easily and at a normal time. Then I woke up about 2 hours early this morning (it’s possible the dog was making noises that woke me up, rather than just naturally waking). But I was so awake I knew there was no way I was getting back to sleep. This never happens to me! I lolled around for almost an hour and then got up. But I don’t feel tired at all or like I didn’t get enough sleep.

I have another couple hours to go on my 42-hour until I break around lunchtime. I’m down another 1-1/2 lbs. this morning; usually about half comes back.

Just hit the 17 hour mark. Really enjoying being outside today. My backyard is so big and so full of trees, with a full time job it’s near impossible to keep the leaves up during the fall/winter. So hubby and I fertilized and tilled the garden and then I jumped on cleaning up the leaves around the privacy fence. Already raked up a baby snake. It was what we Southerners call a chicken snake. Not sure of the proper name lol. I probably lost a pound when I saw him cause I crapped my pants lol. Jk, jk but it did scare me. Anywho, having a tummy growl here and there and trying to remember to stop and drink my water often. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their fast/feeding.

(Liz ) #140

Hello fasters! I’m almost 19 hours into a 70 hour fast. I was putting on a pound a day after the end of my last fast on Sunday and that always freaks me out so here we go! My challenging spots typically are 18, 24, and 48 hours. After that I’m usually full of pep. Taking one tbs MCT oil in my one morning coffee otherwise it’s tea, water, and salt for me until Saturday evening.

Fasting really highlights where I still use food for emotional reasons, even Keto food, even without mindless snacking. This is an area I’d really like to work on but I have to figure out how. First step is recognizing it though! For example, I often look forward to getting home so I can eat. When I’m fasting I can feel the chagrin that it wont go like that. My excitement about going home goes away and I feel apathetic, a small “nothing to look forward to” feeling. I want to replace that with looking forward to something that is not food related, but I have to figure out what that is.

Life at “home” is actually my mom’s home as my husband and I have moved in and become full time caregivers since last May when my dad passed. It’s going OK, but it’s not the life I would necessarily choose to live, you know? I’m glad we can help as absolutely everyone else bailed and she really needs us. But I also miss my old life. And I really miss my dad. I have a ton of responsibilities I didn’t before and it’s extremely stressful. I do a lot of self-care (to the point of self-indulgence LOL) but that doesn’t erase the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in. It just keeps us from totally burning out. So that’s where I notice my old friend comfort eating still sticking around. It’s apparently not disturbed at all I don’t snack anymore and instead it snuck itself into lunch and dinner times! I mean we should certainly enjoy our food, but there’s this extra dependence I only notice when I fast & I don’t think it’s helpful to me.

Anyway, the psychology of all this has always fascinated me! Happy fasting and thanks for listening to my ramblings
