APRIL 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

(Andi loves space, bacon and fasting. ) #342

Hey Fasters! I’m sitting in an airport right now watching people eat gross pastries and sandwiches because they think they have to eat. I didn’t even pack a snack for this trip😀. I don’t know when I’ll eat next, I’m not worried about it. I’ll eat when the opportunity and good food options present themselves.

The fasting mindset is so freeing. :sunglasses:

Have a great day everyone!! :purple_heart::purple_heart:

(Herb Martin) #343

Oh my gosh, you are going on a 1000 miles trip how can you go without eating for a whole 2 1/2 hours.

You’ll starve – you’re going to die – you’ll be damaged for life at least.

:scream: :scream_cat:

PS: Consider brone broth for your 3 AM eating.

(Mame) #344

LOL! It is so awesome to not ‘need’ to bring food for plane trips.

I am about 14h into my planned 44h. Due to weather I am working from home which may make fasting a bit harder, food is in the next room in kitchen. Hopefully the weather will not derail my scheduled weightlifting tomorrow.

Fasting currently calming and light.

(Herb Martin) #345

No sympathy on that one from me  I work 100% from home.

And oddly I’ve been out to lunch more with friends since beginning fasting – every single time while on a fast.

Good to hear about your weight lifting while fasting.

Obviously from the posts above, I’m boxing and doing other strength building work while fasting more than 2 days in 3 for nearly the last 2 months.

(Mame) #346

None expected
I think those who can fast while being at home, cooking for their families, sitting at the table sipping salt water while others eat are flipping stars!

I still need distractions and non-availability a lot of the time.

I will say though I am at 18 hours and I am currently feeling awesome, this is the fasting feeling I love.

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #347

So I made it to the 36h mark as planned.
I could have pushed further but after exhausting myself in two fitness classes I decided I would be fine with breaking the fast. Also I was starting to feel cold, not fun when you just got back from a cold…
I plan on having a big breakfast tomorrow and then going for another 36h just because its handy and my is Saturday is crazy full.

To all you OMAD and If people. What kind range of macros do you usually hit in that one meal/window?
I only managed 1200kcal and was feeling full when I was barely halfway through my meal

#348

Congrats on your successful fast!

I don’t try to OMAD on eating days. I do maybe 16:8 or 18:6, but I have at least two meals in that window and try to eat a lot–more than what I think I would need for maintenance if I was eating every day. I’m not always successful at this, but usually I stop when I get to a point when I think “If I eat more, it’s gonna feel like Thanksgiving.” If I’m merely satiated, then I need to eat more. If I don’t do this before a fast day, then sometime between hour 24 to 28, I can’t stop thinking about food. And there’s no way I could get that kind of intake with OMAD.

(Doug) #349

4 days in the bag. Going to eat - this was a really easy fast. There was not much thinking about food at all - makes like 99% of the difference.

(Herb Martin) #350

Way to go dude.

For me, it’s now starting Day #12, and 4 days in a row at boxing practice.

Hey everybody, Doug’s right: Usually there isn’t much hunger after get carb clean and fully ketogenic.

If you are ONLY doing 1-2 days you are doing ONLY the HARD PART.

Not saying you “should” do longer but if you WANT to do longer to realize that you already have the skills to go (much) longer if you are taking care of electrolytes.

Unusually for me, today I was hungry. Not terribly so, but noticeable.

What do you do?

  1. Recognize it, and just get busy with something else
  2. Hypnosis (it’s not hard to learn and it’s a useful skill in many ways)
  3. Use a ‘booster’ like bone broth – it’s not ‘cheating’ unless you are betting or trying for a record – if it keeps you on an effective fast then do it.
  4. Suck it up buttercup – truth. If you are in the gym doing weights or laps in the pool, what to do when it gets difficult: TOUGH IT OUT.
  5. Find you own way…

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #351

I skipped breakfast actually because a) too tired to get up early enough, b) Still stuffed from yesterdays dinner. So maybe this will end up being another 24h or 36h fast. Not refeeding enough but my body just does not want to… (super duper weird and unusual)

#352

Presently at 13 hrs. Wife wanted to Fast today, so will probably just got to Saturday sometime.

Unfortunately, though I do OMAD at most times, I don’t actually track my macros, so can’t provide you with any sort of regular number. But I do know that this is one of the things I read a lot about. … Some folks saying It’s one of the reasons OMAD doesn’t work for them, or is not always suggested for some, since they find it too hard to get enough in at one setting to meet their numbers that they are shooting for. … Personally, I don’t think I have that problem, since I usually do eat very hardy meals. - But who knows? I too may be under-shooting what would be considered my target number?

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #353

I didn’t track for the last year eighter. but since I am trying to figure out some things and get out of my stall/routine and working out more I am experimenting to find out what works best for me, when I feel best and what flows with my hormones.
So tracking it is for the time being until I get a decent hang of things…

16h in, starting to feel a little hungry, but I am joining a “kiss in” right after work , so I will fast through that and have something small after, and then a bigger meal at home will probably end up being a 20/4 I suppose.

#354

That makes sense, and what I’ve been saying since the beginning as well. Figured to keep it simple for now, but also said that if the time comes when I’m not seeing results, stalling, etc. I too might have to start tracking at some point, so I have no problem doing so, but not just yet.

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #355

And I absolutely changed my relationship I had with it.
It’s more about what, nutrition, ratios rather than how much and trying to restrict.

But as long as you can go without, do it …
(oh and it seems my dairy free month did have a very delayed longterm effect on my set weight)

(traci simpson) #356

So, no way that I can fast for days so early in my journey (week 3) but my last meal was last night at 6ish and I’ll be eating breakfast at 9 this morning so that’s 15 hours. I had coffee, does that count?

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #357

you decide what counts or doesn’t we are all grownups here. Black coffee I don’t count, Sometimes I add coconut oil to push me further when I have a bad day, I had to stop with HWC because it was actually making me hungrier rather than making me feel full, but that is something you’d have to try out yourself I suppose.

#358

Nice, hope it was for the better? And yep, I will indeed start tracking as soon as it’s needed. Have no issues doing it, but do like that It’s not required just yet.

I’ve actually been watching something since returning back to Dairy myself, and wanted to be sure before posting about it. … But it seems since going back to using it, I have noticed a couple things. 1) That I think I’ve been feeling a bit more bloated? (albeit, slightly but still feeling it) and 2) Also (hopefully not TMI) but feel that I’m not using the restroom as much either. Meaning, not as frequent or regular? Almost feel like I’m holding onto foods longer. (if that makes sense?) … And since going back to using Dairy, it’s the only thing I can think of that might be causing this?

(I came for the weight loss and stayed for my sanity... ) #359

Very. My set weight seems to suddenly be down by 4/6 pounds. I mean I was slipping a lot lately so I still was keeping my old weight, but I get down to the 216 mark faster. compared to the 222 i have been stuck at for so long…

I seem to be getting along just fine with ghee though, which is really cool.

#360

As @Hardrock_keto_chick said, it’s all up to you how you do things. And yes, any time-frame that you put between meals, is always beneficial. So going from Dinner to say lunch the next day, usually falls around 18 hrs. give or take, so 15 hrs. is good indeed. … For me, I’ve always said the ‘not snacking’ between meals is one the best benefit you get from Keto, but you will also find that after some time (different for everyone) you simply find you’re not as hungry anymore, (part of becoming Fat adapted) and this is where some folks like to start really look into fasting.

As for coffee, shouldn’t hurt at all. If you read above, you see a lot of folks do what they feel is best for them, and we are all different. So there’s no set rules per se, but by simply trying different things to see what works best.

(traci simpson) #361

I also find that the weekends are easier to not eat because I’m running around and doing stuff. At work, I’m stuck at work and when it gets boring is when I would find myself eating more so not doing this will be a challenge for me.
