Another Carnivore Thread

#1726

Hey, I realise I am rather a lurker more than a poster on this thread and also hadn’t been on for ages so have over 1000 posts to read through and catch up on.

However I just wanted to say thankyou to those on here who set ke on the right path back in November last year, when I was on my first foray into carnivore. Your tips, advice and support really helped.

Well, now, several months down the line I have stuck with it and am feeling amazing!

After severe ME/CFS, chronic pain, POTS and various other issues for over 8 years I now feel I am gaining a new lease of life.

I honestly cannot express enough how much of a change Carnivore is making to my life and now that they are ‘homeschooling’ my children are really reaping the benefits of it too as I am able to do so much more with and for them that i was previously unable to do.

We are lucky that we still seem to have decent meat supplies here despite all the Covid19 and lockdown going on and I am trying to utilise this time to get myself even healthier and improve my consistency of day to day functioning.

Having gone from having such bad brain fog, inability to concentrate and major visual problems upon trying to read anything or look at any screen previously, I am now so far on that I have just applied to the OU to begin some part time study.

I have been unable to work for several years now and yet, since going carnivore, I am now looking into various options for getting back into work again.

I am even doing a daily fitness session (Joe Wicks) with my kids most days now, which is amazing seeing as how I previously soent much of my time housebound or bedbound before and struggled to get up one flight of stairs.

I am going to try to keep checking in on this thread more regularly now that I am able to be more productive but for now I just wanted to express my huge thanks to this amazing community.

Keep safe all and keep on eating meat, it really does heal!!!

Hey B! Glad you ditched the plants  You don’t need them, all ya need is good meat and I know you love your meat so happy to hear you are back on plan

Knee is a lot better. Back is better. Everything ‘feels’ ok but boy oh boy I need to watch myself still in how I twist, bend etc. Just being cautious on it all cause I don’t wanna hurt anything again but so far so good…thanks for asking.

I hope you are improving and doing a lot better now!! Eat up that meal and heal up your body and you will be in a fine place for sure. take care my friend!~!

HI and WOW WOW WOW

from your post I can say you got such wonderful changes from zero carb. I am super happy for you. That was such an uplifting post to read. You made my morning  I love reading when someone truly starts getting massive improvements in their life while on a zero carb plan. We never truly know what plant foods, processed junky foods and more we used to eat, all combined up on us, and we eliminate it all, go all in zero carb and we heal and change. And your progress sounds so freeing for you and that makes me smile big to read

You hang around and chat up!! Your story will inspire others to try zero carb. I love how you committed to it, got great results, hung out on the thread reading up and doing your own thing and you are doing so much better now! Super cool!~ Welcome to the world of zero carb and all its fine benefits!!

Happy Easter for those who have the Easter Bunny coming to their home

Thankfully kiddo will be 15 yrs old in 3 days…being older she gets very little from the Easter Bunny now but the Bunny did come this morning here LOL

Woke up super not hungry. Will just eat whatever later. A ribeye for sure, maybe tuna or sardines also? This is one of those low eating days for me. Food lost interest today.

You know I can tell my days, wake up with food and twinge of hunger I know I will be eating more, wake up just like this feeling of ‘ho hum’, not a twinge about food in my belly or mind I usually eat way less on these days. Eh, just interesting to me ya know, how we know ourselves so well on zero carb.

Have a great day everyone

(Daisy) #1730

Ok guys, I have had a few people pushing me to tell my story on YouTube, so I finally got up the courage and did. @Fangs, you are part of that story, though not mentioned by name lol

(Susan) #1731

That is a great video, Daisy =). You did a terrific job, it is lovely to get to “know” our forum members more.

#1732

LOL yea I was the one who said you have to go all in and give it a fair shake and then ya rolled your eyes, whatever   That was just too funny KD…loved your video.

Boy I can relate, your ‘diet history’ is like mine. So many of us tried it all and never could find that right way to make it work. And the replacement foods, oh yea I did that also. Drop sugar and grab salty stuff, I can so relate on all of it for sure!

I was surprised how bad that dairy did effect you. Sounds like an awful amt of pain you were living with and it is crazy that our foods can make us so sick. Yet we all try thru the years to fix ourselves, it can be so discouraging thru all our attempts.

I love how you said you did all the wrong keto things when you learned about keto. You said pick the top 10 ways to do keto wrong and ya did it! I know that feeling also cause when I dropped into low carb I was doing the same. I did all the wrong low carb tricks/tips etc. to ‘work around’ not being low carb, ie, as in trying every excuse to keep sugar in my life, I just fudged low carb over and over again. I would get so mad at me cause I was trying so hard, yet I knew deep down I wasn’t trying so hard…it was like I was in such denial of what it takes to get off sugar for real yet I knew deep down what it took and I kidded no one but me. One thing I always wished was years ago I just went all in and accepted what changes it would take to improve me, not just monkey with it all and I put in so much effort thru those years to try to change but never really did the changes…oh well that is me floundering around all those years trying to find a magic bullet of LC. If I just did the LC correctly I probably would never be saying any of that and years wasted mentally that caused me a lot of grief. Yea mental grief and misery on a diet eating plan…it took me down for sure

Cheryl’s challenge helped me for sure! I was so happy she started it!!

I loved at the end how you said the list of changes to you now are wonderful. I love that you made a great point about even if the lbs. you want gone aren’t leaving at warp speed right now, your improvements in every day living are so great and you feel so much better. I think we have to keep that emphasis there cause it is so important. We can’t let a size on a pair of pants, or seeing ourselves as ‘too darn fat’ for what we desire/envision is our body perfection for ourselves to ever trump over general health and vitality. Our general health and vitality of living a good life with food and feeling so much better in our general well being that it has to take center stage. As we continue to heal and eat zero carb your body will change for sure. Of course changes take time on this plan. Commit, hold on for the ride, and good thngs comes our way on carnivore

I thought you looked great in your video!! Smiling pretty face, chatting away on what it took for you to get to where you are and still deciding how to proceed forward. Nice thing is you know yourself so much better now. You know how to maneuver around with protein and fat and see how it does for you and at least you are in a point of feeling great and thriving vs. fighting your own body feeling bad.

I appreciate your posting that! I enjoyed hearing about your journey so far. It is great to know you are in a good place, have a firm foothold to just move forward and see where this path all leads for you :sunny:

(Daisy) #1733

Thank you Fangs!! I hate putting myself out there on camera. It’s a whole level of vulnerability that really makes me uncomfortable. But I feel more and more like it’s so important to get the positives of carnivore out there by as many of us as possible!

#1734

I like that KD. It takes just one video to be seen for someone to try and even if it gets someone into a tigher situation like a good keto plan or a general very low carb plan even it is a good thing, but the walk into carnivore sure helps so many so much!! And this zero carb plan is what will work only for many and they don’t even know they require it, but if word gets out it means more people can try and have info on it!

You are strong to go against your comfort level…I love it!!

#1735

Yeah, I often think of people who would benefit from some lower-carb diet but they have no idea.
I was a healthy high-carber, always satiated my hunger and functioned pretty okay. I had no idea low-carb is another world but as I got too fat on high-carb, I finally reached it…
It was easy, keto was scary and obviously not for me… I tried and quitted on the first day, I never regretted it, it was awful, not for me and I loved my low-carb life where I don’t gain any fat even if I do some carbier days now and then.
Carnivore was pretty far from the vegetable-loving, meat-avoiding me. It was surreal even when I tried, I still didn’t want to do it, I just tried it for a while. I needed some change and everything pointed into the usual direction: I still eat too much carbs.
And it’s another, better world again even though I never tried it for long and do it on my special little way. Still, lowering carbs is an instant win. And meat is good, eggs are awesome and versatile… And I still cook and bake whatever I want, there is someone who eats it. Of course, I usually want to make food I eat but there are some exceptions I love to make.

#1736

Yes, I sure agree.

Any lower of the carbs in a bigger push is a win win for that person absolutely! I really don’t think people get it at all. I mean if the average intake is like around 300 and we know many many people surpass that very easily in a day, geez just cutting that 300 down by 1/2 would improve a person quickly…and then chopping off a bit more, even down to like 100 would be a vast improvement. I think many have the all or nothing attitude and don’t get it, every bit of crap sugar you don’t eat is a win!!

#1737

I am a meat god  HAHA

I was a kitchen hater, a non-cook except for fast, convenient junk food for the meal.

I was like, a skirt steak? what do you do with that? Flank steak? HUH LOL
a chuck is tough but once ya learn how to cook it.
steaks overcooked and like leather, but once you learn…omg delish

Meat and seafood. Oh man I can personally say I am a chef for meat and seafood, taters/veg/breads/desserts/baking/etc…no idea on it mostly but meat/seafood…I learned how to make that so so tougher meat into heaven, I learned how to make my seafood to die for

just chatting what I became, a meat and seafood chef vs. hating the kitchen and never a chef LOL

who knew any love I would get from a kitchen would be only and all about meat and seafood………so zc changed me on that one  but hey we excel at what we are passionate about I guess so this is just something I realized about me now.

fun to chat up how we change on zc!!

(Scott) #1738

I am loving carnivore! In fact the only problem I have is I still eat three meals a day mostly because I love to eat.

#1739

That is fine  Never worry about that. Longer you stay on plan your body and appetite will change. Most of us do and you will also…just eat as you need and never give it a second thought. Key to zero carb. Eat as your body asks. Just follow as it wants to eat or be sure to listen when it wants to change also…you are doing fab!!!

#1740

I usually have more meals on carnivore as I get satiated more quickly and it’s perfect satiation so I can’t comfortably eat more, I am done, that’s it. I almost never had that before (without massive overeating, at least). It’s good because I like eating multiple times a day. One meal works sometimes but only occasionally happens, that’s good.
I still never had a day even remotely close to carnivore when I ate too much, no matter the number of my meals. I surely could do it if I wanted (didn’t try, I don’t want that) but even that probably would feel forced and not comfortable. Except if I used my not satiating items, added fat, heavy and sour cream… But I don’t do that. My normal undisciplined self isn’t a problem as long as I stick to my good food.
I don’t always do that but I am improving (and get impatient because I can’t buy the type of meat I want). I practice my new habits even off carnivore just like I practiced my keto habits off keto. So I come back and find everything even more easy.

It seems I have more energy now, it seems not eating plants all the time helps me with that too. It’s very fresh, we will see but it was great, I never had it on my old keto. (And makes me curious. One day I really should try carnivore for longer. But that has conditions I can’t meet now.)

My cooking surely changed. I don’t want to give up the vast majority of my old good recipes I developed in the last years (it was unhealthy how much time I spent on them) but I don’t cook only for myself and I am very bold when it’s about modifying recipes anyway…

We go shopping even much more rarely as before, it definitely helps that I don’t need lots of vegetables. My SO needs some but it helps I don’t eat those up (I do eat a tiny amount but it’s negligible) and I barely use any when cooking. It’s something considering I too often cooked plant-based dishes. But I started change some of them, a popular one is one step from becoming a carnivore dish and every step this far made it way better (and lower-carb)… I love when that happens. But that one is based on spices and being fried, not not-spice plants and the original recipe used the word sausage so it’s obviously perfect for making it carnivore.
Normally I use a different approach, not changing some recipe as far from carnivore as possible. But this is a good one, a useful dish, my SO loves it, I will make it either way so I want it to be as good for me as possible. I barely tasted the last ones but I’m going in the right direction.
Cooking always will be a hobby of mine I think, I just don’t need it to have a satisfying meal. It’s freedom, I love and sometimes use it.

Oh and my relation with eggs improved even more. I mentioned back then that I find eggs less boring when I don’t eat plants. I loved eggs before too but sometimes they got boring. That instantly got better, even just reducing my plant food and eating very close to zero amount of vegetables. Meat is mostly useful for other purposes. But now it’s even better. It’s useful for me now. No idea about the future. I probably will get more and better meat, will be able to handle more meat (not like I know my limits)… And I surely will keep most of my eggs but I will need more energy at one point too and it’s not like I get the majority of my energy from eggs on most days now. So there is plenty of space for fatty meat in my future. I prefer very fatty meat now, of course not just any. I currently consider pork ribs my favorite but that is the meat I had extremely good experiences when I was a kid or just a bit older, living with my Mom. Too bad she made them once or twice a year. Certain leaner meats are great too, I just don’t want to mess with my protein intake. It’s already beyond adequate on most days but I am fine with that. There may be ways around here but it’s easier to focus on fatty meat. I obviously WILL eat the leaner meat I like, I just won’t “overdo” them. As I wrote, I prefer the fatty ones anyway.

(Daisy) #1741

I’ve been eating 3 meals a day all week. I’m trying to just start listening to my body and stop worrying about my weight.

#1742

I ate 3 and 4 meals per day for like easily a year when I changed over. I could not at all do a 1 or 2 meal per day thing at all.

So I ate well and lost lbs. Lbs drop when they want and they will for all of us on our own body’s timeline

Then my appetite switched up. I was 1 meal per day, 2, back to 1, sometimes 3 and it swung around like crazy til I landed on 2 ‘feedings’ per day,…I say feedings cause my first meal is a monster big meal like a 1 lb ribeye steak, then I have a second feeding of a smaller meal to get me thru the rest of the day into the next. Kinda like a tiger at the zoo, I got 2 feeding times now HAHA

(Scott) #1743

I just love breakfast and by lunch I am hungry so I think I will just roll with it for now. I told my wife to pick up sausage and bacon anytime she is in the store regardless of how much is presently in the freezer, just in case. Today for the first time in weeks we didn’t have a supply of leftover dinners that we needed to use up for lunch so its beef brisket for me at lunch from the BBQ place just down the road, YUM

#1744

I told my SO to pick up all the eggs he can too (we get them from houses, it’s usually 80 every Friday but sometimes more and sometimes it’s much less but it’s 80-100 since months, thankfully. it’s borderline enough)…
I have high standards regarding meat and I seriously lack that now. The beef farm had veal now but people bought it up like crazy. I am not into beef anyway (I have a tiny bit left), I patiently waiting for pork, mutton or big roosters. Since too long. There are some other options but they are limited. But enough for a few (almost) carnivore days a week, even that helps me a lot and it’s easy and nice.

Nowadays I often eat one big meal and some way smaller one later when I realize I am not satiated yet. It usually includes some fatty pork, fun and effective  Well, less exciting than in the beginning but still great.
And I have the odd day when I eat 4 eggs (I like to start with them for reasons) and I feel satiated and truly can’t eat much more. I don’t get it but fine with me. I have at least 2 meals then, of course, I don’t do undereating.
I think I eat a bit more protein now. My body realized how to function in order to get its preferred amount of food so my glorious days are over when carnivore meant way less food (still not too little, I just tend to eat a lot normally) and being oh so full. So I eat significantly more fat (as I have fattier meat and I learned to handle and enjoy very fatty parts, I am improved now) and some more protein now. I track, I don’t know how wrong it is but it’s still informative for me. I actually don’t know how fatty my meat is. Probably very (pork ribs and it’s almost half white so yes, it is fatty. I am not sure about my beef, surely much leaner but no idea) but it can’t be always the same. Whatever. I can’t be very off on average and anyway, it’s not that important, I am just curious.

I had much time to think and watch myself. I still don’t want to do carnivore. But vegetables are permanently out (except the tiny amount for flavor or something. it’s very little) and my body definitely dislike if I eat significantly more carbs. Nothing serious but nope, less is better. So I try to balance things. I eat whatever I want as always, basically. But I want very different things now than before my tiny carnivore trials…

#1745

yum is right
can’t go wrong on beef brisket…and someone made it for ya

I also pick up a few extra items when out and about because heck it is worth having it in the freezer…we eat limited so we best have it in the house if needed. I am finding our stores are stocked well now around me so things are a tad more normal so that is good.
