blood is kinda salty isn’t it? I would think blood has a nutritional purpose for sure
Another Carnivore Thread
I will tell you that 85% is better tasting only reason is that the 72 is SO much sweeter than the 85…….now of course personal taste but I am one who wants the sweet out of my life…just a consideration for ya maybe. The more you head toward higher like 85-90% the more sweet you drop from your life. I need it. I can’t allow a true sweet taste back in the form of chocolate ever. So just something to think about.
I find the Israeli thing interesting, I’ve been to Israel but I didn’t really get to mingle. Interesting in that the blood would not be eaten in kosher foods.
As for doctors, the salt thing is a myth as preached by most doctors. It’s misinformation that has been held onto and passed on as gospel without proper evidence.
Never forgot that bloodletting continued to be practiced for a couple of centuries after it was disproven.
Also never forget the poor doctor who dared recommend handwashing as a way for doctors to save lives was locked away and beaten to death. The old medical myths only die when the proponents finally die off. The cholesterol sham will be the same way… it’ll linger until those who’ve built their careers on it have croaked.
Yeah, this turned into a bit of a rant… sorry guys.
I believe that because lower salt helped a few middle aged men lower their blood pressure a few points “they” figured it was good for everyone, including women and children.
Quite literally a few. If I recall those results weren’t even able to be consistently duplicated.
Gary Taubes started picking apart the bad science about salt even before he started looking into dietary fat. In the late 1990s, I believe.

Not a rant truly in that you are actually saying what happens out their in the world. Old guard, time for a changing of the guard
you are right about all that!
I guess you have to find your own sweet spot on the salt. Many forum members report overdoing the salt and having diarrhea. That’s why I am concerned about newbies being encouraged to eat enormous amounts of salt. Holy cow, just the amount of salt in bacon is all you need for a day.
I love this quote!
I’ve been at the salt lick these past few hot days. I got swollen ankles as I was drinking many litres of water in the hot weather. But for the past 48hours I’ve had a shot glass of pink salt next to the water glass and let a few grains dissolve in my mouth (I think absorption may be enhanced that way?). The water tastes sweet after salt on the tongue, and I reckon that’s the response that makes it a flavour enhancer, and abused as a food additive. My swollen ankles resolved quickly with the added salt to balance the increased water intake.
Targeted salt can be therapeutic.
Excellent video Bob, thanks for sharing it. Funny I thought, “let’s check this out” and I saw it was 1:15 long and thought I’ll watch some fully thinking I wouldn’t make it through. Fascinating woman, watched it all. Three ZC kids with a little flex is pretty impressive too.
The only thing I disagreed with was at the end they’re talking about nobody ever really feeling quite free eating the small carbs of KETO. Kelly said she suffered for five years doing that and Judy agreed she’d never heard of anyone being really happy with the carb restriction of KETO versus elimination in ZC.
I never really felt this way since I started KETO. I have been happy eating this way and found incredible freedom in it. I can even decide to eat totally off plan a day and go back in ketosis quickly and painlessly without cravings or worrying about going off the deep end for weeks or months like many describe. I’ve never felt better in the last 25 years or so as I have on KETO.
But my interest now is to find out if I can feel better without plants. I’m looking for real improvement going forward, mostly with neuropathy, circulation and overall energy and good feeling in my body. Eating is already easy and simple for me. I’ve gotten less and less elaborate with cooking in recent months. I’ve been gradually reducing vegetables for the last couple of months too and I think I have had some slow oxalate detox. Morning eye crust and some sharp joint pain a few times where my toes join my foot, that’s the neuropathy area. But the overall pain level and numbness is less I think lately. There’s probably permanent nerve damage but maybe the inflammation level can be lower and still show some improvement is my hope. That alone would keep me going on Carnivore.
@FrankoBear. Targeted salt can be therapeutic. Exactly. I need extra when I get the occasional headache.
Especially on the tongue before a shot of tequila followed by a bite of a lemon or lime wedge!
Never tried it with tequila but used to drink straight lemon juice with salt. Wow, that was probably dumb. Still trying to figure out gut health on keto. I’m a big complainer on the forums. Maybe need to see a doctor as I suggested earlier. Ending up the day with a stomache ache and heart burn doesnt cut it. Anyway, glad you are having a great time. And love the pics.
@Regina How late is your last meal? Eating Supper at 2:30-3:00 makes me sleep lots better. I rarely get GERD anymore and I have a hiatal hernia. I used to need Omeprazole everyday but almost never take it now unless I eat too late.
Right now (after restarting keto after two months) I eat breakfast around nine, and last meal around five. It is a stretch. My stomach has been churning for hours. Probably now is not the best time to investigate as we are installing a new kitchen. Before I would sometimes have a snack. But, as with all wonky bodily things, I blame it on menopause.
The fastest way to absorb salt in the mouth is to put it under the tounge(sublingually). It will absorb faster than just sucking on it.
