Another Carnivore Thread

great post!

yea most of us know that part…back to SAD and how bad it can be!

You are a great advocate for your health. You saw and corrected fast. Many won’t do that. You are right to jump so fast cause this is ALL about you  next great move — you then kept learning and found LC.

I feel like a salt lick LOL

I have yet to cut back salt a bit. Feel bloated. Got on the scale. Didn’t gain and ounce, haven’t lost and ounce yet my body feels like it gained 5 lbs easily. Beauty of carnivore tho LOL

So I know it is sodium. My correction is I will pinch a ton less on my beef. I will power up my water intake cause I noticed with it not being as hot, I am not truly drinking my water like before. I think also I am thirsty but without nice high heat temps, I don’t feel inclined to go grab a glass of water.

yea weirdo me and my thoughts on it LOL

So less salt and I will now watch me on it.
More water cause heck ya can’t go wrong with that.

just some thoughts on my days and how I feel. Time to change up a few things and get the bloaty gone fast. Bloaty never belongs on carnivore  Bloaty is a body signal I am off. I can correct it and take action.

I think the no salt needed chat we talked about is something I am focusing more on. I won’t go no salt immediately, but I can control tightly and see.

@Fangs our tastes really do change. I also stopped cooking complex dishes, now we like to get in and get out, 30 min and dinner is on the table.

@VirginiaEdie Liver is tricky, I always liked it though. But I cannot imagine eating brain, lungs, kidney and any other gland that comes from an animal…i just cant. :no_good_woman:

#684

I hear ya Meerkat!! So much less dishes etc. to wash also LOL

I am not a kitchen gal…less time in there the better for me

Oh fangs, I was such a happy cook and baker - baking was my anti-depressant, I devoured books on cooking, baking, the chemistry behind it, I baked sourdough bread, made layer cakes, indian food, thai food, complicated dishes, I watched videos, tv shows… I really had to go through a mourning period :joy:

Now, like you, I prefer simple ingredients, one pan, one dish, bang, done! Now get in my belly… Our fridge only has one full shelf (before we had a full fridge, overflowing) and my freezer is filled with delicious meats.

This is funny cause I was gonna write I feel so sorry for those foodie lovers who enjoy a kitchen and it is a fun place for them.
I read about some people who are true foodies and truly do have to mourn the loss of that activity and it can be very tough change. Leaving behind a fun activity with enjoyment, heck we drop food, now we have to drop the fun of baking and cooking along with it.

In a way that can be a lot more time on your hands to fill up.

I bet you did have to mourn.

I wasn’t a kitchen gal but I was a foodie gal. Someone made it, I ate a lot of it HAHA

I say this all the time, my freezer is one of my best assets in the world  It holds my ‘on sale’ meats and seafood

It was hard, just like quitting smoking and carbs :joy:
All of a sudden you don’t have that one hobby that made everything better. I stopped watching cooking shows, I stopped reading and collecting recipes, I stopped baking since I can’t really remember what cakes tasted like (i tried to guesstimate, but it is just not the same)…
But then again, I gained so much more with keto…my health, my figure…definitely worth keeping over cooking and baking

I decided to cut back my salt on carnivore to see if I needed it as much as did on keto. On keto, I had to supplement 1.5 to 2 teaspoons a day on top of what was in my food or I would have muscle cramps at night.

Yesterday, I had 1/2 teaspoon salt in the morning. By late afternoon I started feeling terrible: nauseous, tired, headachy. I took in 1/4 teaspoon of salt and felt better in about 20 minutes.

I ended up with about 1 teaspoon total supplement for the day. No muscle cramps at night. So, it seems my need is less, but I still need some.

#689

wow that was a great post.

you said…….you don’t have that one hobby that made everything better.

for what all of us go thru in changes, you had that additional one that truly effects your life. Your beloved cooking shows gone and more that goes with it all.

hey I did that. I loved the Great Britian Cooking Show…all those bakers under the tent making crazy desserts from ‘across the pond’ and I loved that show but one day I said, this has to go LOL irked me cause I loved it but at some point, it seemed cruel to me to watch what I could never eat again. I lived thru it tho!

I also love you said what you gained. I sure hear you on that one.
What we gain…after our mourning of it all we do lose…we find we are in such a better place. That little thing of praising our success and our advocacy of our health is anything but little LOL

I took great pleasure in baking for the family. My daughters aren’t keto, but they do have to eat what my husband and I eat. I stopped baking them cookies and such, because I can no longer supply them sweet treats in good conscience knowing what I know now about sugar. Artificial/alternative sweeteners just don’t make the cut.

#691

@Fangs just as I began keto, they replaced Sue and Mel…i’m a creature of habit and I couldn’t get used to the new duo, so I took it as a sign to quit watching :joy::joy:

@VirginiaEdie you’re right, our families feel the change, as well. My MiL still fondly remembers my baking and, like you, I can’t bake them regular dessert with my FiL having T2D. And I agree, when they say “tastes just like the real smth smth…” LIES, all lies! :joy:

(Full Metal KETO AF) #692

This is me. Worked all my life until my leg was amputated in food service mostly cooking Sichuan Chinese food but also several years baking and some other cook jobs. I traveled a year and a half in Asia studying food and culture in several different countries. Lived in Indonesia for 7 months, I loved the food and learned a lot about cooking it. I have a kitchen full of great stuff but I realize most of it won’t be usable or necessary but for Carnivore cooking, so much stuff for processing and cooking plants. Fermentation vessels, baking gear, mandolins and food processors, special knives and graters, utensils, sauce pans and stock pots, like basically 90% of my kitchen gear. I really enjoy cooking creatively. Going KETO made lots of my stuff obsolete too but meat only cooking means the majority of my kitchen gear isn’t usable really. Let alone cooking with all the multitude of spices and flavors that I have spent my life learning to balance the nuances of. I’m already panicking! :cold_sweat:

I changed up how I handle ground beef. I had been draining a lot of the fat because liquid fats give me issues (:scream::poop:). So I started eating GB cold but hated missing so much fat from draining so I quit draining then still had to deal with a lot of gelatinous fat which I don’t like when cold.
My way around the problem now is that I use a slotted spoon to transfer the beef into containers then pour all the fat into a separate container.
Once cold there is a nice thick layer of tallow in the fat container that I pull off and eat with the ground beef.
My pups love the gelatinous fat.

It’s taken me 3 days to catch up on this post!!! Lol

Question for whoever can answer… how can I increase my ketones on carnivore. I love carnivore, but also want the benefits of ketones. I got a blood glucose/ketone monitor for an early Christmas present and I just sit in nutritional ketosis. What do I need to do, while still eating carnivore, to get into deeper ketosis?

(Heather Meyer) #695

Honestly…somtimes i wish they made a “salt lick” thing for humans. Cows get it right? I figure it would be so much easier to just take a lick of a block then having to drink it down. I dont have the stomach for these salt pills some people take.
Although i learned not to drink salty water too fast :nauseated_face::nauseated_face::poop::poop::poop:

(Heather Meyer) #696

really? I still watch cooking shows all the time. Im currently in the middle of watching “Best Baker in America”. Im addicted to watching shows about people playing with sugar and carbs. All i can think is “how on earth do those judges not gain weight taste testing all the foods??”

(Empress of the Unexpected) #697

Sorry. Really random. But what state are you in? In the 1950s my family lived in reseda, California. My cousin was caught several times trying to scale the piggly wiggly sign. I think they moved out of California years ago.

#698

I’m in South Carolina.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #699

Wow. Wonder why piggly wiggly died out here in california?

(Empress of the Unexpected) #700

How often do you eat?. Timing is everything. And why do you want to increase your ketones? Where are you at now? You only need deep ketosis if you have a medical problem.
