120 hours!
I decided to break my fast at my original goal. I felt like I could go longer but I decided to stick to my plan.
Just had about 1/2 cup of sauerkraut and apple cider vinegar. Will wait for a while and have some bone broth.

I’m going to continue to take BG over next few days to see how my refeed plan works out.

Well done. I am 93 hours in on a 5 day fast right now. EF has been getting easier and easier for me. However, this one has been challenging as I’ve been under a good deal of stress.
Best wishes on your fast, NinMD -if you are too overwhelmed due to the stress, just stop? Cortisol is annoying…
Great job! Especially under stress, that must be tough. When I got to the 100 hour mark I figured no matter what happened at that point - continue or stop - my body had reaped many of the benefits I was wanting from the fast (autophagy specifically) and I’d be good. I hope you can make it but if not, it’s still amazing.
Here are my final results for weight (pounds), BMI, and average daily blood glucose from Saturday (first full day, after big feast the day before) through Thursday. (BMI is measured by my scale. Not a true measure but comparatively it provides some helpful information.)
Daily average for BG went from 81 to 76.
It really is, but I feel like if I stopped fasting every time I got stressed I would never fast.
Thanks for the encouragement. I am 107 hours in. Not hungry at all, but I’m on edge due to recent stress and probably the fasting adrenaline. I’m not tempted to stop yet. I’m still planning on breaking the fast tomorrow with homemade sauerkraut and bone broth.
Sounds like 120 isn’t going to be a problem then. That’s maybe a few hours up and a few hours asleep? You got it.
When i broke my fast last night I had 2T apple cider vinegar and an hour later had 1/2 C sauerkraut. Then an hour later had more sauerkraut and some bone broth. I went to bed and when I woke up I had coffee with cream, half an avocado and a fried egg (no butter or oil yet.) Lunch was bone broth soup with chicken and spinach.
I’ve had zero negative GI issues so far. It’s hard to be patient with refeeding though. I have fresh corned beef that I want to pile up, top with melted Swiss, sauerkraut and a homemade thousand island. That’ll be for tonight if I don’t have issues.
I think I’ll add some ACV too, that’s a good idea. I always carefully plan when I’m going to break my extended fasts to make sure I’m not going to be running around outside my house. Unfortunately, I have yet to escape diarrhea after breaking a fast, no matter how slowly/gently I do it. But it’s only the first day that I have any issues.
Wow, those are some great results! And imagine all of the stuff going on behind the scenes in your body that can’t be measured.
I understand. My hubby’s illnesses and things we are dealing with here are VERY stressful, and sometimes I just have no clue what to do with cope with it all, so I get that.
Changes in body measurements! I took my measurements yesterday before breaking my fast and completely forgot I had written them down the day I started, too. (If this is weird to share here, please let me know.)

I wish there was a home test for autophagy or growth hormones!
Btw, you should be almost done right? I think 120 is a great length for an extended fast. Gives you just the right amount of time on the weekend to recover.
So my fast ended very well and so far, two days later, I’ve had no emergency trips to the bathroom and no other digestive issues. I’ll post here what I’ve eaten just in case someone else may find it valuable, and to document this 5-day fast from start to finish.
The night I broke my fast
6:30 pm - 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
7:30 pm - 1/2 cup sauerkraut
8:30 pm - another Tbsp of ACV and a few spoonfuls of sauerkraut
Next day
7:00 am - coffee with HWC, MCT oil, squirt of Pyure
7:30 am - 1 cup chicken/mushroom bone broth with spinach and rotisserie chicken
10:00 am - fried egg, half avocado
3:00 pm - a small serving of a breadless Reuben (corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, homemade thousand island) It took up about half the size of a dessert plate, if that gives you an idea.
Second full day
8:00 am - coffee with HWC, MCT oil, squirt of Pyure
10:00 am - larger serving of a breadless Reuben (corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, homemade thousand island)
3:30 pm - spicy chicken and avocado salad with salsa, sour cream, spiced and fried rotisserie chicken, half an avocado, jalapeños, a little iceberg, and fresh cheddar cheese
Tomorrow, which will be my third full day after my fast, I will start back to my normal everyday Keto without fear of GI problems. I’ve mostly been avoiding yummy fatty meats, butter and oils, but I’ve snuck enough in the past day or so, so I’m excited to make some bacon, smoked sausage, and a butter coffee tomorrow.
