Hello all,
I have been keto for about a month. Everything is going great. I was vegan diet for about 9-10 months when I got very sick, I won’t go into details, but I quickly figured out that the vegan diet was not for me. After a lot of research, I landed on the keto diet and couldn’t be happier.
My question is this…I have heard in many places that you cannot absorb any more than 4oz of protein at a time and anything over this is just taxing your kidneys. I prefer to eat most of my calories in a 2-3 hour window, which means i’m eating a lot more protein then a 4oz piece of meat. I don’t want to split up meals because I don’t want the multiple insulin spikes during the day.
I have been trying to find where this information comes from, possibly just an urban myth? Does anyone know anything about this? I’m trying to get about 65g of protein/day, and a fat to carbs + protein ratio of 1.5 or 2 to 1, keeping carbs to under 50g (though i’m usually under 30). I have no metabolic disease, and I would say i’m very insulin sensitive HOMA-IR of less than one, waist to height ration less than .5 etc. i do have issues but insulin resistance isn’t one of them!
My main goal on keto is just to avoid problems as I age. I pretty much detest going to doctor and would be happy to never go to an allopath ever again. I do all my own bloodwork and try to figure things out on my own. i am a veterinarian, and i am very interested in biochem and physiology. the low carb docs are the only ones who have reasonable explanations for just about everything. Recent low carb breckenridge videos on youtube are awesome. Thanks to all the pioneers in this field and for all who put this information on the internet including this awesome forum.
Thanks so much,
Caroline
