3 Weeks In, Not Too Impressed, Ready to Give Up

Define snacking

(Championsidewinder) #142

Pork rinds should not spike insulin for example it’s salt n fat

(TJ Borden) #143

Actually pork rinds are more protein than fat, and although are FANTASTIC for keto, protein does cause an insulin response, just not as much as carbs. In theory pure fat does not, but if you’re super metabolically deranged (as many of us were when we started), even fat CAN cause an insulin response because it’s a response to the simple act of eating. The system is so used to being overwhelmed by carbs it starts to release insulin as soon as you start eating, it doesn’t necessarily wait to see WHAT you’re eating.

Snacking has to do with frequency of eating, not the content. If you find yourself wanting/needing a snack a few hours after eating a meal, it means you didn’t eat enough at the meal.

(Championsidewinder) #144

Well then I need to stuff myself because that’s the only way to not eat 1 hour later lol

(Championsidewinder) #145

I eat sunflower seeds a lot just throw a handful in my mouth and start playing golf shell and spit as I walk, a lot of salt and not much nut

(TJ Borden) #146

That’s the idea. Keto is NOT a calorie restricting diet. Satiety can be tough to define, but in general it means “Inuit you don’t want more”.

Starting out, for many of us - myself included, being full meant I literally couldn’t stuff any more food down my gullet without risking throwing it all back up. Buffets would see me walk in and they’d fire up the cooktops.

As you become fully fat adapted the true satiety signal (that is has been hardwired in our DNA for thousands of years) will start to work again and you’ll find yourself stopping because you don’t WANT anymore food, not because you feel “stuffed” necessarily.

When it happened to me the first time, I actually freaked out a bit because I had NEVER felt that sensation before.

(Championsidewinder) #148

Wish I lived in Seattle but I would really have the munchies and hard to stay on track lol

(TJ Borden) #149

I actually cut back quite a bit. It wasn’t just the munchies, it was also the impairment of judgment that often lead to a Taco Bell or Jack in the box run.

(Championsidewinder) #150

But the only thing I worry about is eating too much food in one sitting, because my niece said if you Plateau and stop losing weight then just eat a hamburger with little butter on it, like if that’s really going to help, I already eat a few burgers now n then

(Championsidewinder) #151

I just eat some salt and chug down some water and munchies gone, or I leave house, all I do now n then is get some ready whip and shake can and shoot in my mouth, but maybe not good to do :man_shrugging:t2:

Wait a minute… Who’s an eskimo? And who are you to tell them they don’t want any more.

Auto-Correct is a fickle mistress.

(TJ Borden) #153

Those are adjustments to make once you’re fully adapted. I wouldn’t worry about anything until then. Part of why the focus is on eating fat is because eating a lot of fat helps your body adjust to using it for energy (versus carbs) and because it’s actually tough to overeat fat. Too much fat will make you nauseous, and if you really push it, will make you throw up.

Once your fully adapted, your body will start recognizing stored fat as available energy and your appetite will go down. It happens naturally, no counting required.

(Championsidewinder) #154

so I can one of these or both half inch thick two 1/2” across

(TJ Borden) #155

Especially on a new phone. I didn’t realize how well my old phone had “learned” me.

In my old phone, I could type “20 grams” and then auto text the rest of the basics of keto.

(TJ Borden) #156

I’d opt for both, cooked in butter or bacon nectar with plenty of salt and pepper. If half way through the second you realize you can’t finish the rest, save it, chop it up and add it to a scramble for breakfast.

(Championsidewinder) #157

Ok I need to eat before wife gets home and wants it lol

(Championsidewinder) #158

I want to broil it should I pan fry it?

(TJ Borden) #159

You could broil it, then add thick slabs of butter on top.

(Championsidewinder) #160

4 tbs butter
