I need help! I was in Ketosis for most of 2016, hit my goals, felt amazing etc… then decided to “relax” over Christmas. Slowly fell into old patterns and have tried to get back into ketosis about 5 times this year.
I wasn’t tolerating much fat early this year and found out I had gallstones. Got them out, now the dietary fat is fine but I still can’t get my blood sugar down. The carb cravings are so strong, I feel like a drug addict. I’m eating a bit more protein than I should, but that’s to keep my mind off the carbs (snacking on twiggy sticks and salami instead of chips). I’m afraid if I cut the protein back, I’ll go for carbs (there’s only so much fat you can eat in a day).
Any suggestions? Is there something I’m missing?
- I’m female, 45, 5ft, 60kg
- I measured my blood glucose this morning and it was 5.8mmol (104mg/dl)
- I’m aiming for around 1600 cals a day, 20g carbs, 60g protein and 140g fat (5/15/80)
- I have coffee in the morning with 22g of fat, leftovers or a fat bomb smoothie for lunch, fatty meat snack around 3pm and meat/greens for dinner
- I get lots of salt, magnesium, MCT oil etc.
- I’m taking L-Glutamine for the carb cravings
- I feel fine, no brain fog or tiredness etc… maybe that’s because nothing is happening?
Any advice is appreciated, thank you
