Why we stall

(Mark) #72

Too funny, because if I increased my calories to 1500, I would gain a pound of fat every day!

(Dan Dan) #73

That would be a miracle if that happened :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hey @Richard I just heard this podcast where a guy named @carl was having trouble with his stall until he tried to eat more dietary fat. Maybe y’all should put your heads together and have a show about that strategy. I think it was a ‘couple of keto guys’ or something… maybe someone can point @carl at this forum and help him get started with an account, maybe?
:sweat_smile::rofl::thinking:

(Mark) #75

I guess it’s a miracle then!

(Rob) #76

Obviously (as you know) you can’t gain fat like that but if it’s true that you weight gain at 1500 calories your metabolism is possibly wrecked in some way and you might want to get it checked with an RMR test and then focus on metabolism boosting - high fat, muscle building, etc.? Just a thought.

It’s different for different folks, but yes, it’s amazing what hormones can do!

Its always been said that 3500 calories = 1 lb, but so does 300 calories for some of us.

(Rob) #79

You need to find a way to monetize that unnatural metabolism of yours… You could work out how to feed the world on half the calories :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(Mark) #80

Yes - this is common, and I have NEVER heard Fung, Rosedale, Phinney, or Volek address the problem of HOW to fix a damaged Metabolism! If YOU can figure it out, please let me know.

You gradually increase your caloric intake to where you want it to be, and fast when you are not eating. Fasting will keep you from gaining weight while you readjust your macros.

(Olivia) #83

No, that’s not possible. If you take 1lbs and burn it in a calorimeter, you get an energy-output (heat) of 3500 kcal.
If you increase your calories by 300 kcal and see an increase in weight the next day, it’s due to water retention, mass in your stomach and bowels, and not fat. It’s still frustrating and annoying, but it’s not fat.

(Adam Kirby) #84

My theory is that most of the people who are plagued by stalls have higher fasting insulin than the folks who lose 150 lbs in a year without much stalling. The fat tissues become more healthy and insulin-sensitive after a period of weight loss on low carb, but the person is still quite hyperinsulinemic for whatever genetic reason specific to them. Whereas I would guess the extreme losers drop their basal insulin a lot more, so their fat stores are more easily liberated.

(Mark) #85

It may not ALL be fat, but a good part of it is. As Jason would say “We can measure these things”.

(Mark) #86

Excellent video. Still doesn’t address how to undo the metabolic damage without weight gain. Thanx.

(Mark) #87

I agree - I must have elevated Insulin that just won’t let me burn the fat. Time to see an endocrinologist and get ALL my hormones checked.

(Mark) #90

This is the answer is to a different question. He is answering how to NOT damage your metabolism in the first place, not how to fix it once it’s damaged. Two different things.
