@DawnH if the fast isn’t doing what you need it to do, there’s no point in doing it. You made the right decision! Thank you for cheering me on.
21 Day Fast Journey
“The Complete Guide to Fasting” is an excellent read from Jimmy and Dr. Fung. I’ve read it once and have listened twice on Audible, and each time gleaned more insight to optimize my daily and weekly fasts. Cannot recommend enough!
It’s been high on my recommendation list also! And one of my friend actually bought and shared it with another friend - which has me stoked!
Well over the 1/2 way mark! I’m more excited now than when I first started out. Did an hour of cardio yesterday, made a tasty fat bomb to carry with me while out for the better part of the day. Was a bit on the dehydrated side, and so I’m watering up today. I’ve decided to either reduce the amount of bone broth I have because I’ve decided to do only cardio for the remainder of the fast. Yesterday I kept my heart rate in a range of 148-160, that was better for me. It seems that I’ve settled into working out roughly every other day, which is also good. I’ll be weighing in tomorrow.
Hope this isn’t really TMI, but for anyone reading this and is considering longer fasts, don’t be surprised if you’re still producing ‘movements’ well into the fast. You’d be surprised out how much waste is still hanging out in the intestines. Just roll with it and let the clearing happen.
I’m in the home stretch. Waking bg reading was 72 mg/dL this morning. In week 2 lost .8lbs, but I’m not sure if my hormone zone contributed to the much lower loss; however! - from December 11 (week of the Zornfast) to day 14 of my 21 day fast, I’ve lost a total of 14.4lbs. The week of Zornfast, I did a fat fast with one mini meal per day of fatty stuff and that week most of the water weight came off (7lbs). My average weight loss is about .68lbs a day. I’m wondering if this means I’m not as insulin resistant as I thought or because I’m a lady and we tend to lose weight slower? My bp is looking awesome still, which makes me really happy.
Craving meat, not strongly, but the want is there. It’s a lazy day so far. There may be a workout there may not be. Just enjoying the bed and the Twilight Zone marathon.
@Becky saved my life this morning and don’t even know it! I would post a pic of the bulletproof cocoa I made but I drank it and the craving for meat went away at least for the time being.
Excellent @Charmaine-OLD, happy you were able to push through & keep you fast going.
My craving is easier, I want to try the bulletproof cocoa, but I’m zero carb / no plant products for January so I will enjoy vicariously off your delight and eat that meat you’re craving. I’m leaving out my Grinch mug to give it a try in February!
Sunday, bg dipped down to 56; Monday it went up to 90 but mostly in the 80s, today it’s back down in the 60s. I did go to the gym today and will be getting back in my regular schedule. Haven’t ~needed~ much sleep, but lounged around yesterday morning anyway. I think I look different, but not sure. My accountability partner says I look really good. I definitely don’t look like I’m fasting.
Feeling some kinda way right now. Amazing how that happens. Had considered breaking the fast for really frivolous reasons. Like I was about to post an update about where I am in the 21 day fast in the Fung Sweigh group when I see the new rule about not posting about fasts longer than 7 days if the poster is not supervised. And here I am, flying by the seat of my pants sorta groping my way through this. While I’m monitoring my glucose and pressure; and I’m actually ingesting fat and a slight amount of protein, after reading many of the comments, I just panicked a little bit in the inside. Like one person was talking about something happening and having to go to the hospital and receiving an IV and then suffering refeeding syndrome. Not that something like that can’t happen, but I probably should have avoided reading the comments. I have no issue with the rule; it was just that little bit of panic that made me want to throw in the towel on day… 17. I didn’t do a strict water fast. If I did that then I couldn’t workout. I don’t know… i should just relax and go to bed. Tomorrow is a new day. I didn’t really know if I would make it this far with or without fats and a bit of protein… I just had a conviction that this was something I ~needed~ to do for any number of reasons, that’s all.
You’re doing great. As long as you feel good, do your n=1. I can’t do a strict fast and exercise either. I’ve hit the wall of what my fat stores and IR can accommodate. KCKO
@Stephanie thank you! Today I saw a better day and my focus and determination is renewed.
Ooooookay… lesson learned yesterday for day 18 - it’s never too late in the fast to experience a ‘purge’. Never, apparently. Yet, surprisingly enough that experience only added to my want to extend my fast beyond 21 days. I’m really not opposed to doing so, at this point it just feels natural and right. I’m not feeling depleted or rundown. I have energy and I’m not being crazy with h my workouts. I’m continuing with doing dry brush scrubs and Epsom salt baths, just not every night.
I’ve fantasized about what I’ll cook whenever I do go back to cooking/eating regularly. I’m still a foodie no matter how long I fast. LOL
Wow this whole thread is really interesting, well done on what you’ve achieved, makes me feel like a real wimp for not having done a multi day fast yet but will do my first 2 or 3 day fast before I go back to work in 10 days.
Thank you @Adam but don’t feel like a wimp, though lol. When you do your fast let us know so we can support you! I probably would’ve thrown in the towel had it not been for the kind support in the group.
HOLY F… Girl you AMAZE me!!! I’m so friggen proud of you!!! You SO got this in the bag!!!
Killing it!
…And by ‘purge’ do you mean going #2?? Lol
Or vomit? Sorry, just curious.
@Joel_Abdul #2 LOL. But I thought about it - babies drink milk and get really poopy. So, I won’t bemoan the ‘purge’ when it happens.
