14 day fast, here we go!

#161

Sadly I’m still gaining after having broken my 7 day fast. I’m still at 7lb’s loss from the start of the fast. Hopefully the gain has stopped, because this last day it was only .3 of a gain. So, I guess 1lb a day is ok. But, a bit discouraging to see most of the weight come back.

I hope the low insulin levels for 7 days helped my IR a bit.

Ditto to that. Home is tough–the fridge and pantry, kids’ meals… tough to avoid.

Very interesting, @Pilotbob. I’m 20 days after a 7 day fast, and as of today, I only gained 2 lbs. During the fast, I lost 12.8 lbs. I usually gain more, but the difference this time is that I’m doing ZC. It makes me wonder if that makes a difference. Looks like I have some more n=1 tests coming up in the future.

I’ve gained ten lbs…next time out I do ZC for a solid week or two post fast.

(melartweaver) #165

What’s ZC?

(Christina Hansen) #166

Zero Carb - which really means “plant free, animal products only.” There is a category under the food section of the forums about it.

At 53 hours this go around. This thread is a huge help!!! Thank you all!

Way to go, @George

Alright, time to join the club.
I never made it past day 5, i dont know why.
With the amount of exercise i do i should transition to low-bloodsugar / high-ketones much sooner but for some reason i dont.
Whatever, it has been a while since my last attempt, im excited, lets go

(Larry Lustig) #170

Exercise is not particularly conducive to making the transition to low carb eating and could be detrimental. For someone used to burning carbs directly for energy, exercise invariably signals your body to obtain more fuel (and thus, more carbs) to replenish the glycogen stores you deplete.

Not suggesting you eliminate exercise if it’s important to you, but don’t expect any benefit from it in terms of getting into ketosis.

(Sascha Heid) #171

Yes, this is possible, in my experience exercise raises my blood-sugar and temporarily increases my weight (i am guessing it requires a lot of water).
My most successfull 5 day fast - as in the easiest where i felt the best - was my last one where i was incredibly lazy.
I was just lying in bed, reading and watching movies and enjoyed it tremendously.
This was after a peroid of being very active where i thought i deserved a break.
It worked. I also lost weight incredibly quick even though i did not burn any extra calories.

On the other side i need daily exercise. I don’t do it for weight-loss but to feel good.
If i stay inside there is a high chance i am getting depressed. As soon as i am out of the door i feel good no matter what i felt 5 minutes earlier.

How’s it going everybody?

I’m at day 3 now, woke up feeling relaxed and well, sun is shining. I’m cycling to the gym now, getting a nice cup of coffee on the way, probably even a coke zero afterwards. I had no real problems so far, just occassional mild appetite, nothing difficult. I need to stay on guard however, it looks suspicious. The circumstances are pretty good though, i have sun, exercise and plenty of sleep.

(Sascha Heid) #173

I am not hungry.
I am not thinking about food.
I am not feeling weak.
Fasting is awesome.

I’m a liar.

(Bart) #174

you are funny, liar or not.

Day 4:
It took me a while to get to sleep yesterday. Stupid dream, woke up hot but feeling relaxed and calm.
I used one of my remaining blood ketone strips and it showed 1,9.
For me that’s pretty good for day 4. If history repeats itself then tomorrow will be the day where my bloodsugar drops and the ketones go up trying to compensate.
Im currently working middle shift and the first half of the day is great. I cycle to McD every morning for my big cup of coffee and Coke Zero, that’s where i am right now. Then i go to the gym just around the corner and cycle back to work. The afternoon at work is more difficult. The first coffee break is alright, but today “we” will order food just like every thursday. I have to either stay in a strong mindset demonstrating “I dont give a fuck” or stay away from it.

Holy crap Jeff, this is awesome.
