You come home from work exhausted, late, don’t feel like cooking. You used to call and order up a pizza. Easy peasy. What is your go-to meal for the fam when your “just don’t wanna”, kicks in?
Your "I used to order pizza" go-to
Microwave frozen broccoli or cauliflower or both until it’s hot, bury it in grated cheese and microwave until the cheese is melted. If you have leftover meat in the refrigerator, throw that on under the cheese.
^^^^She’s the ultimate in “don’t wanna” cook. I usually throw together a stir fry with whatever meat and veggies are on hand. Frozen veggies are already sliced and diced. Brown up the meat, throw in the veggies and heat through add a little sauce or cheese. Done in 15 minutes or so.
Frozen burger patties in the oven with bacon… or stop at the store and buy steak, broil for a few minutes and serve… or scramble up eggs… frozen veggies in the oven with way more fat than necessary… I don’t care for the microwave, I bought my teens (who are keto by default) a popcorn popper, it’s not the best keto snack, but it’s one that keeps them from being stabby…
Who says you can’t order pizza? I’ll just take the toppings off and toss the “pizza-carcass”. Or some pizza joints will make you a crustless pizza if you ask nicely.
That seems wasteful. I will have to talk to the local joint about a crustless or what they can do.
Even when I was a sugar burner, I didn’t order pizza. When I get home, and I am hungry and tired, waiting for a pizza to come feels like forever. And, I’ve always found them “meh”…not satisfying.
So easy to open fridge, grab something, and in fifteen minutes already eating something tasty!
It is a bit unfortunately. Something else I’ve taken do doing at work if tossing some pepperoni on a plate, covering it with mozzarella and nuke it for a bit. Same principle. Instant no-crust pizza.
A plate of chunks of cheese and salami, avocado, sliced tomato, olives. Dinner doesn’t have to be hot!
I used to miss grilled cheese…it was a favorite “I just don’t wanna cook” meal. And then I realized I could just fry the cheese…ooey, gooey, cheese.
When I really don’t want to cook, I usually order some chicken wings.
Sometimes I get some chicken legs from Nandos, or sometimes, depending on time, we go out to Cici’s as they have a crustless pizza.
Chicken wings, Five guys, Chipotle, Jimmy Johns. Sometimes I’ll browse Doordash and see if any keto-friendly places are there I can try out from the comfort of my couch.
There’s a wide variety you can have. They have a great nutrition calculator online (link: https://chipotle.com/nutrition-calculator) so you can plan ahead and not get a nasty surprise.
One big gotcha: they recently switched to a lower fat (higher carb) sour cream, so best to skip that. If I get it to-go I’ll just put some of my own from home on top.
My normal is a bowl with double steak, medium or hot salsa, guac, cheese, lettuce.
The calculator lets me figure out what I want to fit into my macros and tweak accordingly before I go!
Turns out my local pizza place has no sense of humor or adventure and won’t make me a crustless pizza Time to find a new spot.
One pan meal of whatever meat is available fried up in butter with whatever vegetables are available. It’s always good! Or else bacon and eggs.
