Why isn't this working? Or is it!

(Becky) #1

Let me start by saying that i have only been doing this woe for a little over three months…i in no way claim to be well versed in keto-ology. I have noticed (and read) so many posts about the scale not moving and clothes not fitting, so i decided to share my short history. Im 5’4 female, sw 228, current weight is 187. So yes my scale has moved in the right direction, but it hasnt moved in almost 2 weeks, but thats ok…My first 30 pounds looked amazing on the scale but i was still in the exact same pant size…but thats ok. Now since the scale started slowing down, the inches have started to go down (i wore a size 18 pant and 2xl shirt at the start, i am currently a 14 pant and a L shirt). There have been a couple weeks mixed in where nothing changes, not clothes nor scale, and again…THATS OK!

What has been consistent is my energy level, my more positive attitude, my new outlook on life. I really love how food does not control me anymore, it is NOT the first thing i think of when i wake up nor is it the last thing before i fall asleep. If nothing else, if i am stuck here for a time, then i will remind my self of my better health and my control over my own demons for the first time in my life. I will also try to set realistic goals as well as milestones…i will celebrate the small victories, and i will keep the faith…i know we can all do this. I realize it can be hard, the struggle is real, and really worth it. Good luck to everyone and keto on!

Hi Becky.

I love your attitude! Too often, people obsess with a number on a scale and fail to factor in all the good things that have changed in their lives. You get it! :smiley:

Best wishes on your keto journey.

(Lisa) #3

Bingo! You have to trust the process and everyone’s body will respond differently. Great attitude, keep up the great work!

I think your outlook is wonderful. I realize many might say, well it’s because she lost so much weight in three months, and maybe that’s true. It’s easy to be calm and cool when you’re getting results. I know I am personally really thankful for any amount of positive outcomes I have received so far (4.5 months) and think that will make it a bit easier to handle the plateau/stall that is in everyone’s future.

I’m glad you mentioned your non scale victories like energy and attitude. Keep up the great work!

Love it!! You are so right! Keep it up!

(Becky) #6

Lol, thanks @CarlKeller, but i will admit that it took me many years to get it :crazy_face: im a slow learner.

Yes, exactly, and i think so many people forget this…we are all different!

@PetaMarie, this is true, and i in no way mean to minimize anyones journey…but maybe it could help that one person who is struggling to realize there is a silver lining. And you are right, we all have a stall in our future, we just need to do like Dory and just keep swimming (or ketoing) :grin:, yes i have kids so all of my motivational quotes tend to come from cartoons lol.
@jessOTR, thank you

Do you mean in 3mos you went from an 18 to a 14? I think thats pretty rad tho. I hope to have good results like yours. If I understood what you meant that is lol.

(Becky) #8

@x-Dena-x
Yes ma’am, but to be completely honest i still have a hard time seeing it, but i am very happy with my results thus far…even without the scale currently moving…

(Little Miss Scare-All) #9

Well I find your story pretty inspirational. I started at an 18 as well but Im 5’7. Id love to be a at 3 months. Im like 35+ days in.

(Becky) #10

I just find it ironic how people want to see the scale go down, but as mine was going down i never lost inches…not until the scale slowed down…and then it happened unexpectedly…all i guess i was trying to say was not to lose hope :heartpulse:

(Becky) #11

Thank you very much, that means a lot to me. And you got this, i had to change my mindset from…ok, im giving myself till summer to be skinny…thats usually how all my other attempts started. This time i told myself i was just gonna try this out and see what happens, and all of the nsv have hooked me!

(Little Miss Scare-All) #12

Yeah same for the most part. I dont really have goals per se except overall health, insulin resistance therapy, and hormonal balance. Oh and being a size 14 at 3 months. Lol jk. Would be nice tho.

(Lorena) #13

You’re doing great! I have to say that the most significant change I see in myself is my mood. I don’t know if it’s a hormonal change or just that I am so dang happy that I have permission to eat FAT (and lots of it) after a lifetime of denying it cause it was the enemy. I just feel in such a good mood all the time. I’ve been eating this way for 2 months and the scale really isn’t an indicator for me. I’m also still learning and still in a trial and error as far as my food goes BUT…I haven’t gained and that, to me, is fascinating and awesome! Good luck to you and keep your great attitude!

what a lovely post! Congratulations on your success, and please keep posting!

(Becky) #15

@1Lorena1, well it sounds that you are having great success…congrats, isnt it wonderful to have energy and to be so positive! I love it and im sure you do too! And OMG isnt fat wonderful :heart_eyes:
@Madeleine
Thank you so much, thats very kind. :smiley:

(Liz Ellen) #16

You and I have very similar stats! I started about 2.5 months ago, SW 227 and 5’4" female. Current weight is 197. Would love to be where you are in a month! I’m down to a 14 pant, also from an 18. But I carry more of my weight above my waist (sigh). Still in an XL top. Making progress, though!

My scale hasn’t moved for about two weeks, and I’m slightly anxious. But, I just keep ketoing. I also feel so much more positive and even.

Can I ask how often you’re eating, and what a typical day looks like for you? Are you exercising? What about fasting? How often do you weigh?

Good luck to you, Becky!

(Kimberly) #17

Loving this post Becky! Although your results are amazing and very encouraging, I think I’m most encouraged by your attitude about it all. You seem to have mastered the KCKO. Keep it up, you’re doing terrific :slight_smile:

(Becky) #18

Thank you so much @kimyeah , this way of LIFE has made me a whole new person mentally and emotionally, which to me is the bigges motivator to stick with it!

@LizEllen, thank you, and congrats, it sounds like we are on par with each other, doesnt it feel amazing!
For the most part im having coffee for breakfast, i never was a huge breakfast eater, for lunch i will have some small type of meat and cheese, dinner for some reason i have been eating cabbage (cabbage and sausage soup, smothered cabbage and ham, stir fried cabbage, cabbage rolls…i feel like bubba from forest gump lol) so any ways yes cabbage for dinner! I will typically dollop either butter or sour cream on whatever im eating. I have started walking about a mile a day, not much but i do have a somewhat active job so it evens out. I have been looking into fasting and am currently in the middle of my first ever fast!!! Im 2 hours away from a full 24 hour fast and to be honest im not hungry at all! Its amazing, i feel so, well, for lack of a better word, ALIVE!!! I suggest anyone considering it to give it a try, its its nowhere near as intimidating as it may seem at first! (Sorry, i kind of rattled on…but its awesome :grin:) Now for my downfall, i weigh daily, note: i do not suggest people do this…i think mine has just become a habit because i only log my weight on thursdays, which is also the day i do my measurements. Also, full disclosure, my scale still isnt moving and thats still ok!
I really hope i answered all of your questions, let me know if i can answer anything else! And good luck to you, to all of us!!! :smiley::kissing_heart::grin:
(I am so stinking bubbly today people are looking at me silly lol)

Love it! Some of us really need to hear this. Specially when things move slow.
Thank you!

The scale is a data point. String enough of these together and it becomes a graph or trend. Not worth obsessing over but we all feel great when it is getting lower. That said it is only one piece of the puzzle. My beer gut is another piece or marker for me. When my belly gets smaller and the scale stays the same it is still a victory but honestly I am not sure which one follows the other sometimes. OP I like your style. I had a three month stall and really didn’t care. I think keto is easy but calorie deficit was difficult. I am comfortable losing or maintaining on keto as I have plenty of time.
